  • Works perfectly!
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
I had to replace a very poor quality and very unreliable on demand water heater that only worked about 25% of the time. I did a lot of research on several different units and this one seemed to get the best reviews. It's so nice to turn on the hot water and actually get hot water. Since this replaced an existing unit the install wasn't too difficult. Had to run another wire from the box. I live in the Sacramento valley in Nor Cal. Have a 2 bedroom, 1 bath with dishwasher and wash machine and this keeps up. I don't even have the temp turned up all the way. Excellent unit and very reliable. I did put a filter on the line before it goes into the heater. I have mine installed in the attic. With the unit I had before I would have to turn down the water coming into the house just to run a warm bath and the water would trickle out. I have one of those single faucets so I can't really adjust the speed the hot water comes out. The Stiebel does the adjusting for you. Now I don't have to mess with turning down the main water line into the house. I can leave it on full blast for the lower flow faucets and the heater automatically adjusted the flow when I fill the bath. It runs fairly fast coming out of the bath faucet and is nice and warm. I am very pleased with this unit and it's perfectly sized for my needs. ... show more

  • Fantastic unit and great price.
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
This is fantastic tankless water heater. I will recommend that you do hire a professional electrician and plumber to install. It took my plumber maybe 30 minutes to install after the electrician did the wiring work. I've had it over a week now and took me a few days of adjusting to get the temperature to my liking. I love it. I turn on the hot water and give 45-60 seconds for the cold water in the lines to flush out and I have perfect hot water. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a tankless water heater. I have a 1 bathroom house with the kitchen sink and washer, for this water heater working just fine for all them. I spent weeks looking all over the internet and this was the best price for the size water heater I needed. The vast majority of the others I looked at wanted $1000 or so for a similar unit. The price is perfect and when my plumber installed it he commented on the high quality of the unit. My plumber said he was going to replace his old water heater with one of this brand in next few months. ... show more

  • Yes im happy. I have had no problems with the unit ...
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
I installed this unit in feb. 2014. First off let me say I live in Phx. az. needless to say the water coming into the unit is warmer than other areas of the country. The quote to install it was up around 1200 dollars. you will need to run new cable from the meter base to the unit. the wire for a standard tank type water heater is not heavy enough. you will also need two new breakers. Having said that my son is an electrician, so my install cost of the unit was about 250 dollars to cover new cable, brakers and plumbing parts. im a do it yourselfer but the instructions for install were above my pay grade! I have been monitoring my electric use since I installed it and comparing those numbers to the months prior. Phx breaks it down on line so you can look at day to day use and compare it going back 24 months .i was skeptical of the advertised savings. My cost dropped approx. 40 dollars a month and has stayed that way since I put the unit in. Yes im happy. I have had no problems with the unit since install. We have hot water non stop when ever we want it. great when the grandkids are there as you can run showers and baths one after another with no down time between. And I like knowing when you turn off the hot the unit stops drawing electricity instead of running another 1/2 hour or so to reheat a tank of hot water. it works best if running only one tap in the house at a time. That was not a problem for us. if you have a need for more than one tap at a time you might want to look at a bigger unit. Over all this unit has been great. as far as im concerned this is the only way to go. but do your research. the temp of the water coming in does need to be considered. They also recommend a water softner to help save on wear on the unit caused by hard water. I went ahead and put one in as phx has very hard water. its not required but I think a good idea. if the unit fails or I have other problems I will update. the last thing I would mention is the fact this unit mounts on the wall and frees up a lot floor space where the hot water tank had been sitting. ... show more

  • Works Awesome!
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
If you have electrical, mechanical, and technical abilities the installation should be straight forward. If your the average weekend DIY this might be a job for a professional. You will more than likely need to replace, and add an additional 50 amp breaker to your electrical distribution panel. You will also need to replace and pull an additional electrical wiring circuit for this unit. As with any installation follow the installation guidelines and requirements and make sure that your existing electrical service, and panel can support this unit. The Tempra 20 requires two 50 amp 2 pole breakers. Those circuits will require a #8 or #6 guage wire depending on wire used. Be sure to follow all local electrical codes. Outside of the installation the unit performs great. I have it set to 112 degrees and this unit will supply endless hot water. I've run two 2.5 GPM shower fixtures at the same time and this unit was able to provide hot water to both fixtures, but there was some pressure drop. The one thing you will notice is that depending on how far the fixtures are from the unit there will be a lag time until the existing water in the pipe is flushed and the hot water is pushed thru it. Hopefully this unit will provide years of trouble free service. I do plan on doing a annual food grade white vinegar 1 hour flush on the unit to eliminate any calcium build up that might buildup over time. This not required by the manufacture, but many professional installers recommend doing this to protect your investment if you live in an area that has hard water. ... show more

  • Heavy power requirements, NOT whole house
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
I've owned this water heater now for 6 years in my house, and today I'm switching it out to a propane gas exterior heater because this little guy can't keep up. A few things you should know before buying: it takes a tremendous amount of electricity to operate it- 2 double 50 AMP circuits. In the winter, when the water is cold, is using a tremendous amount of energy to heat the water. I kid you not when I say the lights dim when you turn on the hot water. My house heater is a HEAT PUMP, which when going into AUX mode pulls another double 50 amps. I've had the main breaker of my house trip TWICE while using this water heater while my heat pump was in AUX mode. And finally: if anyone is taking one shower in the house, the hot water on any other faucet is a mere trickle. I was dissapointed that this is surely not a whole house water heater by any means. One fixture at a time. ... show more

  • HELP
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
My electrician installed this tank. Power is running to it and it's got love power in the panel. However the power light won't come on and the unit won't operate. Water is flowing to it the cable connecting the main board to the circuit board on the cover is connected per instructions. The two heating elements are not "tripped" in the panel - I've checked to ensure that. So if anyone has any idea how to get this turned on I would appreciate it. ... show more

  • Easy to install - great hot water, but
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
I read plenty of reviews before purchasing this unit to replace an old tank. The company did not have much in the link of specific recommendation like: For this many bathrooms, or this many people choose x unit or larger. I based my decision on experience from other users. Bottom line, the hot water is awesome, but when in the shower, with a low flow head, if the dishwasher is in use or my wife runs the hot water in the kitchen for any length of time, the temp drops significantly. It takes about 10-15 seconds to come back up to temp. By that time, I am yelling to shut off the water, because it is too cold. It should be able to supply more than 1 point of use at a time. It is hooked up correctly and has plenty of power, so that is not the issue. With hot water, bigger is definitely better. ... show more

  • This water heater is great!
Style: Tempra 20 Plus (Discontinued Model)
We replaced an Eemax tankless water heater with this one and can't believe the difference. The Eemax was very poorly made and kept breaking. Eemax kept selling us parts for 5 years and then told us it needed replaced. Oh, unfortunatley, it was only warrenteed for 5 years...which they also stated was the life expectancy of an Eemax. We had been told 15-20 years, so we were not pleased. We decided to change brands and after much research, decided on the Stiebel Eltron heater. As soon as we received it, we knew it was much better made. This is made of heavy duty, high quality parts. This does not have replaceable elements, but I suspect we will not need to change them every few months anymore. This has a smooth transition of temperature, so you don't go from cold to scalding hot. These units have an external thermostat where you can set the maximum temperature of the water to avoid accidental scalding. If I'm in the shower and someone turns the bathroom faucet on right next to the shower, I can't even tell a difference in water temperature or pressure. ... show more
