I recently lent out our cat crate and did not get it back. In looking for replacement I happened upon this cool collapsible design. We store our crates in the garage, and they’re always dusty and inconvenient to get out of storage when we need to make a trip to the vet (pets never get sick at a convenient time!). This kennel collapses nice and flat so it fits neatly behind my sofa by the front door, ready to grab for our next vet appointment. I ordered the crate with the optional bed. It is covered with a very soft plush. It is much nicer than my other crate pads. I keep the bed in our cats’ favorite chair because my kitties really love how soft it is. I love how it keeps their cat hair off the chair seat! I was able to use treats to first bribe our brave black tabby, and then our nervous/spastic gray tabby into checking it out. They even became a little possessive of it as you can see in the last attached photo. The generous side entry opening is less intimidating than a traditional crate with the opening on the end. There is no way my gray kitty would ever voluntarily go into a traditional crate. She becomes all arms, legs, and claws when I get one of those out! I will report back next time we actually use it go to the vet as to how easy or difficult it is to get our “spastic” kitty into the crate. UPDATE: I have used this to take my cats to the vet numerous times since I purchased it. The side opening is much easier to get my reluctant cat into the crate. Every time I use it, the vet techs are impressed with it and ask where I got this crate. I have used it for a small cat of about 7 lbs. and for a large cat weighing over13 lbs.. Besides being easy to get the cat in and out, I also really love that I can conveniently but inconspicuously store the collapsed kennel near the front door behind the couch. UPDATE 11-26-2022. I am a first-time cat mother of 2, and I bought these carriers when I welcomed the furbabies into my home 10 months ago. I don't have a ton of experience with different kinds of carriers, but I did a lot of research and chose these for several reasons: 1. Hard carrier > Soft carrier, because if your kitty gets sick or has an accident in the car, hard plastic cleans much easier than fabric. 2. Kitty comfort: That being said, I still wanted the carriers to be comfortable for the babies, so I was delighted that these come with a little bed that fits perfectly inside. No measuring, trying to shop around for a bed that fits. And in case of accidents, the removable bed washes easily. 3. Plenty of room for a small cat (mine are 9 and 12 lbs) to move around inside, but not so much space that they don't feel secure. However, if your cat is any bigger than 12 lbs I might suggest a bigger carrier. 4. Very sturdy - it has latches that lock the carrier in position, and almost no chance of the door accidentally coming open. I've never felt apprehensive about my kitties' safety, and I am a worrier, so this says a lot. 5. IT FLATTENS DOWN FOR STORAGE. This was a key factor for me - they assemble quickly and easily, and when not in use I keep them in the corner of a shelf in my pantry closet. Perfect for a small city apartment. 6. Maybe this could be said about a variety of different carriers, but I find that they fit quite naturally into the back seat of my car and I can secure them by threading the seat belt through the top handle. They've never gone flying. This definitely puts me at ease. 7. Lightweight - it's not easy, but I can carry both cats down 3 flights of stairs and out to my car at the same time. A heavier carrier would make this impossible. As you can see from the photo, my babies also approve. A few days before any trip I put the carriers out and they LOVE going in them to take naps! Last time we traveled, they were already sleeping in the carriers and all I had to do was close the doors. No chasing them through the apartment! ... show more

My cat, Cookie, was diagnosed with kidney disease this year. As a result, she has to do at least once a week fluid treatments, which means that vet visits are frequent. Now, Cookie hates the vet, always has, and has a big fuss every time I have to wrangle her into a carrier, so after looking at the design for this one and reading the reviews, I decided to purchase it. The foldaway design is space saving and easy to assemble, and it features a comfortable little bed for your cat to sit on. Best of all is the way the carrier opens up - - there's a ton of space and this gives my vet and the techs access to my grumbly old lady cat without dealing with the danger of taking her out of the carrier, making giving her fluid injections much easier. Cookie feels safer inside it and I have not had to apologize for her clawing a vet tech since I got it. The design of the sides felt a little flimsy so I was concerned, but the locking feature on each side means that your cat is safe and secure for trips. It is also small enough to fit under an airport seat I believe. One thing I'll note is that Cookie's a smaller cat (about 7lbs) and I've not tested it with larger cats yet, but I think it'd be able to hold bigger cats. In addition, I've gotten a lot of compliments from the vet office since getting it! The techs think it's cute and it has made her visits easier, and her vet described it as very cat-friendly. The only thing I would like is a wider variety of colors, but overall this is a well-designed, affordable and pet friendly carrier. ... show more

I was skeptical at first because of reviews fearing it to be flimsy. I took the risk because it was a fair price, and I was desperate for something spacious that didn’t “look” like a carrier because my cats are too smart. It was easy to assemble and lock, it holds my 13 lb and 16 lb cats no problem. It withstood them trying hard to get out too! So, I’d imagine it’s even better for calm cats. It’s easier to carry with two hands for sure. I also love that it’s collapsible. I agree that it takes a bit to put your trust in it being secure. I will update review if anything changes, but so far so good! I’d say go for it. ... show more

this is the best carrier owned in 30 years! My "big girl" walks in and out of this thing like it was nothing! So much less stress! if you've ever tried to shove a "buzz saw" into a small hole you know what I'm talking about! I like that it comes with a little bed .and folds right up bed and all. My vet recommends these and he's been around as a vet for 50+ years. ... show more

So far, so good. I have a chubby cat...15lbs. she fit in here with plenty of 'moving around' room. She did not mind this carrier at all.....which is a FIRST. she laid down and just enjoyed the outing. Folding it up and sliding it out of sight is awesome too.

I have 5 of them, they are fantastic! Just large enough for each cat to feel comfortable inside. Fold down tiny when not in use makes storing 5 of them pretty easy. No wasted space, material, or extra weight. Nice wide door to get the babies in and out easily. Great for cats. I've tried all kinds of other carriers, even lightweight/collapsible mesh ones. These SportPet carriers right here is where it's at. No complaints. They did change the hinge lock mechanism from one generation to the next, but the new design does appear to be an improvement.
