  • If You Loved The Original, You’ll Love The Remake Even More
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard Edition
I’ve played the original 2003 game ever since it first came out and I haven’t stopped since. It was one of the few “reasons” why I even still have my old Nintendo GameCube around. This reboot is so much better than the original. The graphics are much better and more modern looking. There’s quite a few tweaks that improve the gameplay, for example Patrick can now destroy things in midair, which he couldn’t do in the original and the areas where you have to “pay the toll” in order to access don’t require so much of a toll as they used to. Plus there’s a whole lot more shiny objects (aka currency) scattered around than there originally was. There’s also some tweaks that make it more challenging, for example the countdown timers for pretty much everything count down much faster so you have to move very quickly. Also, when you’re swinging on lasso hooks as Sandy, you have to press AND HOLD, whereas in the original, you only had to press a button once. So it’s definitely more challenging and you have to rethink your strategies. But when it comes to completing missions such as getting the golden spatulas and finding Patrick’s socks, they’re ALL still in the EXACT SAME PLACE as they are in the original, so that’s easy to remember. There’s also great new features, such as multiplayer mode and there’s a brand new boss robot, a robot Squidward to fight in the Chum Bucket after the robot SpongeBob, which was cut from the original game. As I said before, if you loved the original game, you will love the reboot even more. 10 out of 10! ... show more

  • Worth it, but there are a few issues
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard Edition
Like so many people, I grew up loving the original Battle for Bikini Bottom on PS2 and was excited when they announced they were remaking it. Having recently played through the entire remake, my overall conclusion is that they managed to capture the spirit and essence of the original platformer. The game looks incredible; it's vibrant with colors (if slightly oversaturated) and the characters move well. It's not 100% faithful; some of the textures and backgrounds are a little different but they kept most everything that matters the same. The thing that shocked me, however, is how buggy the game is. There are issues with the character's dialogue and a few other gameplay bugs. It wasn't a make or break issue overall. However, that, combined with the multiplayer mode, forced me to bring the review down to 4 stars. Guys, the multiplayer mode is BAD. Shockingly so. "Half-baked" is the best way to describe it. I had heard how terrible it was before playing it, and I still ended up disappointed. I was so looking forward to playing as Squidward but his fighting moves were terrible. Not to mention that the entire multiplayer mode is a "fight the enemies in waves" type, and there are around 26 stages. TWENTY SIX repetitive stages. The entire thing was ridiculous. So, the battle multiplayer mode and bugs aside, I still think it's worth checking this out if you loved the original game or if you're a fan of Spongebob. I'd love to see a remake of the Spongebob movie video game, hopefully with fewer bugs. ... show more

  • So much fun
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard Edition
I was thinking of a game I could play with my 5 yr old. And I remembered loving this when I was younger, so I was looking it up to find the old one was way over priced and this was coming out soon. So for over a month we were pumped! I thought it wouldn't be that much better but the graphics were really cool and more up to date which is great! We have finished the whole game! And we loved it! I think the graphics were wonderful and my kid loved it too. Even dad got into playing it with us! Fun for everyone and I got to relive some child hood memories with my kids! Perfect ... show more

  • Better Than I Thought....
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard Edition
this is probably the best cartoon-based game ive ever played. i havnt watched anything Spongebob in 10 years but this game baught me back, it feels like you're LITERALLY playing a spongebob cartoon. every character is properly represented, voices, conversations and all. the sandbox worlds are colorful, charming and filled with puzzles and challenges. i didnt necessarily like how you had to get so many golden spatulas just to unlock certain levels, as finding the spatulas can sometimes be too large a challenge for adults, nonetheless children.....but overall, this is DEFINITELY an enjoyable game worth buying for both children and adults. ... show more
