It works really well for being a low cost yarn winder! I’ve spun a lot of my yarn with it and haven’t run into many issues. I know it’s recommended to only use Grade 4 yarn and under, but I have spun as high as Grade 6 without issues, just needing to separate the yarn more. It’s really quick and I can wind my yarn without having to pay too much attention. I didn’t think it would be durable enough, but it really is super sturdy. Overall plain looking, but if it gets the job done effectively, that doesn’t matter at all. I don’t have a ton of space to store my crochet stuff and my yarn has taken over most of it. This winder is super compact and small, but packs a punch with effectiveness. Overall, if you are looking for a starter winder that’s low cost, but isn’t gonna break easily, this would be the go to.

The packaging is beautiful and the box is reusable. the product comes in 3 main pieces and was easy to assembly without the instructions, however the instructions are really well done and detailed. I recommend starting slow and testing how to plays with different yarn, i was able to cake varies different weights from fluffy to thin. I had 1 mishap with a gear jump, but it was easy to fix with a screw driver, and looking at the gears, they were greased pretty well. I can easily put it back in the box and into a drawer, its small enough to fit in a plastic drawer set comfortably. The quality is well done and practical. Worth the money.

This is a great little yarn cake winder! It’s sturdy in design and smooth to operate. It creates the cutest little cakes, too! One 7oz skein of yarn will yield two cakes. Mind, for best results you should hold the yarn going through the feeder with gentle pressure to create the best tension. Also, don’t wind too fast. This will prevent tangling and yarn slipping from the spool. A nice medium speed works best. Overall, I love this little winder. I wish I would have bought one of these sooner; now my yarn will be pretty, organized, and condensed to fit in small totes on my craft room shelves.

This is the first time I used a yarn winder, and I must say it was fun and addictive. I wanted to wind all my stash of yarn. I did discover a couple of tips that were valuable to me because I ruined the first cake and had to start over. 1. Leave a long tail at the beginning because some of the tail will get caught up inside the center of the ball/cake as you wind. When the winder starts winding the yarn toward the bottom of the cake, it will cover some of your tail and if you aren't careful, all your tail will be gone into the middle. The first cake I wound ended up with the tail somewhere way up into the center of the cake, and I had to pull out half the cake to find the end. Thus, as you wind, always keep an eye on the tail. 2. I use my left hand to hold tension on the yarn as I turn the handle. This will make your cake tight and sturdy. 3. Gently take the cake off the winder when you are finished. 4. Don't wind too fast, steady wins the race. 5. The winder needs to be attached firmly onto a sturdy surface; otherwise, it just doesn't work properly. 6. When you are finished and you take the cake off the winder, make sure the last cycles of yarn don't start slipping off the cake. I move the yarn strands around so they are tight and will not slip at the top or bottom. There is a slight learning curve to a yarn winder which is easy to overcome, but I think these issues are just part of the way a yarn winder works.

Overall does work but I find that after the cake gets big enough or after a few consecutive uses, the gears stop matching up and it skips around, which messes up the winding. Glad I didn’t spend more money on it, and with the amount of yarn I want to wind I plan to get a better quality one.

Got this for my daughter as she loves two crochet. It seems to work pretty well for her as she is a beginner. I like that there are different colors to choose from. It's a great little tool for more hands free for crocheting. It seems to be kind of a light , cheap plastic , but it will do the trick.
