  • High quality kit, exceptional value
I received this kit specifically for repairing gaming controllers; however, it is worth noting that it is highly versatile and suitable for a wide range of soldering and desoldering applications. Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed not only by the quantity of items included for the price, but also by the quality of the packaging. All components were securely organized, with nothing loose in the box. Several items were packaged in clearly labeled containers, making identification and setup straightforward. Rework Station The rework station is the centerpiece of this kit. It includes a detachable soldering iron and a permanently attached hot air rework handle. The soldering iron operates within a temperature range of 50–480°C, while the hot air unit ranges from 50–500°C. Each tool can be powered on or off independently, and both temperature settings are individually adjustable. From a cold start, the unit reaches maximum temperature in approximately 1.5 minutes. The hot air system also features adjustable airflow via a control dial; during use, a medium setting provided sufficient airflow for my repair work. A particularly useful feature is the built-in safety function of the hot air handle. When placed in its holder, the station displays “SLP,” indicating sleep mode. The fan continues running briefly to cool the unit before shutting off completely. When the handle is lifted again, it quickly returns to the preset temperature. This is a thoughtful and practical addition. The kit includes six soldering tips and three hot air nozzles, enhancing its adaptability for various tasks. PCB Holder The included PCB holder is another standout component. It features rubberized feet that provide excellent stability during use. The holder accommodates boards up to approximately 7.75 inches in width and adjusts easily for smaller sizes. The clamping arms are sturdy and secure, effectively holding the board in place during detailed work. At just over one pound, it has enough weight to remain stable without being cumbersome. Overall, it is a robust and well-designed tool. Accessories The kit includes a comprehensive selection of accessories—too many to list individually. For testing purposes, I relied almost entirely on the included components and found them sufficient for completing my repair. The only additional tool I needed was a pair of long-nose pliers. The included tweezers were somewhat flimsy and less effective for precision handling. I also opted not to use the solder sucker, as I prefer solder wick (which is included), and it performed well. The flux paste was of standard quality, and the tip cleaner functioned as expected. Summary Using this kit, I was able to successfully complete my repair. The hot air tool performed particularly well on factory-applied solder, making removal of the controller thumbstick efficient and safe, without damaging the PCB. Installing the replacement component was equally straightforward. Overall, I am very impressed with both the quality and completeness of this kit. It offers exceptional value for the price and is well-suited for both beginners and more experienced users seeking a comprehensive rework solution. I would highly recommend it. ... show more

  • A handy setup to have at home
If you mess with controller repairs, stick drift fixes, button swaps, charging ports, or little board work, this is actually a pretty handy kit to have around. I’m not pretending this turns you into some electronics wizard overnight, but for game stations, and other small repair/modding jobs, it gives you a lot of what you need in one setup without having to piece everything together one item at a time. The big thing I liked is having both the soldering iron and hot air side available. That makes it a lot more useful than just a basic iron when you’re working on little components or trying to cleanly remove and replace parts without getting too caveman with it. The functionality is solid for bench work. It’s convenient to have a kit with good durability and its fit and finish is really nice. It heats fast, you have what you need in one place, and it feels like a practical setup for somebody doing hobby-level repairs, controller mods, or learning their way around board work. As far as build quality, its great for the value. Not some giant professional electronics lab setup, but definitely useful and capable enough for the kind of small electronics jobs most people buying this are probably doing. I also like that it saves you from the usual “well dang, now I also need this tool and that tool” routine. Having a more complete kit from the jump is just easier. If you’re just buying it to stare at it and feel ambitious, maybe not, but if you’ve got controller repairs or modding projects in mind, it’s a worthwhile setup. Bottom line: good little all-in-one station for controller work and small electronics tinkering. If you like fixing your own stuff instead of tossing it, this is the kind of kit you’ll probably be glad you picked up. ... show more

  • Good beginners setup with room to grow and tailored to controller repair
The media could not be loaded. This solder rework station is a cut above most others in terms of completeness for a homeschooler or someone starting in electronics. Having all the accessories, including the generic PCB vise magnetic bit holder, ph1 screw driver, along with various nozzles and soldering iron tips, gives you options for completing a multitude of projects and repairs. Soss Gaming also has videos online about game controller repair. I know because I searched for the purpose of the jar of blue patches included in the kit and was led to the Soss videos. Those included patches act like thermal paste to help conduct heat away from the SMD components. These pads are precut for small components, a nice feature to have and essential for game repair. The kit includes a spudge and lint-free swabs, flux, solder braid, and solder sucker. There is a metal soldering iron tip cleaner, wire nippers, tweezers, and jumper wires. The main unit looks to be a Zhongdi 8922 with a soldering iron and hot air gun. It weighs 4 lbs 8 ozs in a small form factor of (6 in x4in x 4.75in, not including the tool holders). The air handle is sensed by the handle holder and starts active cooling when placed in the holder. The temperature indicator reads going up and coming down. The solder iron only reads while heating up. The manual is minimal, about one or two pages. Hopefully, Soss Gaming will make a video specifically about this kit, its quirks, and maintenance recommendations. The unit appears to be simple and robust, but only time will tell. Add-on uses: Use the hot air to heat and break free stuck screws, repair RC vehicles, and place heated inserts into 3D prints Opinion: This is a nice kit tailored to a niche repair project, but applicable to more general use that would be perfect for beginners without breaking the bank. ... show more

  • Great soldering station, I love it.
I love these soldering stations. I have one at my summer house, and I got this one for our winter home. It is so great to have a handy heat gun within reach to use on heat shrink tubing. The adjustable soldering iron heats up fast and makes soldering a snap. Just flip on the switch, adjust the temperature, and you're ready to go, easy! A number of accessories are included to get you started. ... show more
