  • Great projection
I only bought this for its stable design, atomic timekeeping, quality, and projection feature, both of which work fine. The sleep sounds are just as crappy as all sleep sounds on any clock or sleep sound machine I have ever heard, so no slight there. I will probably never use the alarm or the radio. If I did, I would be upset by the ridiculous antenna gizmo that comes with it to make it look like a piece of you know what. So why did I pay 2 - 3 times as much for just a projection feature that I could have gotten with other offerings? Well, I did initially order a $20 clock that I immediately returned because it was tiny and cheap and would have blown off the nightstand had a mild breeze come through the window! This sony with its' cube design looked like the most stable design and I have learned over the years that Sony quality can be trusted. I wish it was closer to $20, but I'm sure it will last many years, so only a few bucks a year. The projection is on a natural wood ceiling and it is bright and clear, so it would probably be amazing on a smooth painted surface (which we don't have). The cube design looks great - unobtrusive and classic. I gave it a four because of the ridiculous antenna gizmo and the stupid antenna wire (thankfully I don't use the radio). ... show more

  • the projection light goes out after morning and has to be turned on every night
Over all, I really like this clock radio. The projection light is not so bright to keep you awake.

  • The Rubik's Cube of Clock Radios
- User interface is complicated. If you enjoy puzzles you will rate it a 5, If you do not like to spend an hour solving a puzzle, you will rate it a 1. + Shape is elegant, a small 10 x 10 x 10 cm cube, projector knob on left side increasing effective width to 11.5 cm. Black on all sides except the left and right, which are silver. + USB port on lower left side to recharge smart phone. + Battery backup, so settings are saved during power outage. + Knows about Daylight Savings Time. + Projector of digital time on ceiling is excellent. Can set the focus to make it clear regardless of distance. Can choose one of four rotations/orientations for projected display. + AM and FM reception seems good thanks to external antennae. + Dual alarm settings, one for weekdays, one for weekends. + Bar on top front to toggle brightness of display. + Five station preset buttons for each of AM, FM, Nature sounds. As an example of the curious user interface, - There is no On button. Turn radio on by pressing AM/FM/Nature sounds button. Pressing it repeatedly cycles between AM, FM, and Nature sounds. There are 5 "nature" buttons, 4 water sounds of some sort. One tweeting bird. - Turn radio off by pressing the Alarm Reset button on top left front, - Turn on projection button is on the upper left rear left. Button to rotate orientation of the projection is on the back left top. Focus of projection controlled by 2nd knob on the projection knob. - Tuning toggle on back right to search up or down for stations. - Pair of buttons on top rear to move sound volume up or down. - Sound quality is muffled/mediocre. Small 4 cm speaker on back limits sound quality. - Only time is displayed on front. No Day of week or month. - To set alarm, do a sequence of a dozen or more button presses to set hour, min, alarm type, station, volume. ... show more

  • Setting is challenging - update
We like to wakeup to the radio on an FM station. We live in Maine and in a city. This radio replaces our old one that dates back to the middle 1980s which was very heavy on static. The reception is great; the compact size is great as the bedside is crowded with books and the CPAP machine. Spouse likes the time display on the ceiling. BUT, my problem may be my user error, but I have reset it multiple times and it will not come on as the radio - just as the default buzzer. Also, I am having trouble setting the volume for when it does come on. My current plan is to give it a few more tries and then reach out to the manufacturer or the web. If that doesn't help, then likely we will keep the radio, use another method to wake up (such as a cell phone alarm) and then turn the radio on. UPDATE: I got it set to come on to the radio, finally, at the last try. It is a bit like writing one paragraph sentences on a computer. You have do do the equivalent of doing an enter after each adjustment. So - before you start, the station needs to be chosen and the time entered correctly. Then you go into setting mode: hour (enter); minute (enter); AM/PM (enter); choose weekday or weekend or week/weekend (enter); sound type (enter); AM/FM (enter); volume (enter). Takes two hands. So, all this is a bit clunky - BUT IT WORKS after you master the learning curve. ... show more

  • Stylish and a good size
The only negative is the sound quality of the radio and nature sounds.

  • Cool!
All the features I wanted. One look tells if the alarm is set, and what time it is set to. Look at the time on the ceiling? Ya -- cool!

  • The time projected onto the ceiling is nice.
I don't like the fact that the speaker faces to the back. I think the FM antenna could be better. Other than that we like the radio.
