  • Excellent quality for the money.
Although Sony's quality has dropped drastically in the past years this little unit does what it's supposed to do. What I don't like is these companies don't put an owner's manual with the unit like they used to. It gives you a quick startup guide and if you want further information you have to download it off the internet. ... show more

  • You really can't go wrong with this unti!
I got a tell you I got more then I thought I was getting out of this unit. It plays all the content on both of my DNLA media servers with no problem, I did not even know it supported DNLA. It is nice and small pretty much fits any ware. It has the obligatory support for Netflix's but also has Amazon support and I have been able to use the YouTube client to play all the movies I have on bought on Google play. A couple of the other included apps are nice as well. You can use it with an Android phone as a Chrome cast target from YouTube as well but it is a little slow, it just really starts the YouTube app and selects the content your trying to cast but still it will do in a pinch. I tried to cast Pandora to it but it does not show up as a client. That and a couple of other apps I use from my phone mean I will have to keep my Chrome cast ultra hooked up to my TV, still but I already had one so no big deal. The Blue-Ray player itself has been pretty good so far too, can't complain. It is starting to make me feel bad that I do not have a 4K TV but that is a story for another day. I have done all my apps usage and streaming over the built in WI-Fi and have not had any pausing or buffering after the content starts. The one real issue I had was I also bough a KCOOL HDMI 3 port hub with the player and the player does not work right when plugged into the hub. The picture comes up but you get interference on the screen. I only have 2 HDMI ports on my TV so I just moved my Chrome Cast and Direct-TV receiver to the hub and they play well with it so I was OK with that. If your looking for a Blue-Ray player and a decent media streaming device you can't go wrong with this unit. I was previously using my PS3 but I really only play games on my PC now and was not interested in getting a new gaming console. If your in a similar situation I definitely recommend the BDP-S3700! ... show more

  • Slow Slow Slow
Bought this product so an older relative could play old DVDs and have access to streaming services. Pros: - Easy to set up - Fairly intuitive to use Cons: - Network Wifi is SLOW - Nothing else connected to the same wifi is this slow. The movies take longer than expected to load - User interface is SLOW - When entering password or selecting an app, the unit reacts slowly to the button presses on the remote. This means you tab over to something, but overshoot it because of the lag because you think it did not register the button presses. - Limited apps available - It has Netflix, but not Hulu, Prime, or Disney and I could not figure out how to download them. - Remote Netflix button - This is here so you can get to Netflix quickly, but when I pushed it, it said something was not available. I had to set up Netflix on the Favorite button. Overall, it plays discs fine. It has Netflix adequately, but for $110 I would expect it to be faster. ... show more

  • Can't be beat for the price
I bought this to replace a 2014 model (I have two of those and love them). One of them quit reading dvd's and nothing would fix it. Alas, I had to take the plunge and didn't want to pay to pay a bundle for a lot of bells and whistles I neither wanted nor needed. This one fit the bill. I don't think the interface is as user friendly as the 2014 model and the remote is also not as user friendly (which is why I deducted one star), but that is a relatively minor issue. The remote just seems hard to use - maybe because it is smaller and the buttons are so close together - it is easy to press the wrong one. The blu-ray works well, hold your place if you pause or stop watching and then power off and power back on later - I love that feature. Just too much other garbage/apps that I will never use. I have been receiving a prompt for a software update and have yet to run it. I am leery of those, as I have heard stories of customers who said they had issues after running updates (though not on this particular model). If you are like me and just want something to watch your dvd's on and connect to netflix - I don't think you can beat this item for the price. ... show more

  • Well, It Was Better Than the Last One
I purchased this to replace the Sony BDPS6500 (which replaced a Samsung that didn't work out of the box), which I had purchased 3 weeks earlier and didn't last a month. This one lasted 14 months, so it was a definite step up. When purchased, these were replacing a 12 year old Sony, which had finally quit playing. Sony, what happened to that kind of quality? While it worked, the picture quality was decent and the upscaling on DVDs made for a good sharp play back. 14 months later and it can't read ANY discs, of any type. It stopped reading BluRay discs a few months ago, but I didn't worry too much, since most of my collection is DVD, As of a couple of days ago, it can't read anything. I tried using a head cleaner, which is basically a CD, and it doesn't see it. I tried playing other CDs and, again, it doesn't see them. I, also, tried a few other formats and got nothing. I did the latest update and that didn't help. I did a hard reset, several times, and, again, no joy. I get the same error in all cases... "there is no disc." It does continue to work with online apps. As for the remote, it is simple and functional, sometimes. About six months ago, I started having to give it a smack against a hard surface every once in awhile, to get it to work. A little annoying, but not that big of a deal. If you're in the market for a disposable player, this one is pretty good, while it lasts. As for me, I'm going to give my relationship with Sony a rest. I just ordered a LG and will see how that goes. ... show more
