For a mid level user that upgraded from A7iV the RVi is superior in every way. The larger 67MP files can take more time to handle in Creators app and LR but it’s not a big deal. The rolling shutter is never noticeable to me but I shoot birds and wildlife. The EVF and screen flipping every which way r huge upgrades. The noise in compressed raw is hard to say more or less cause the A7iV is my only comp. When i go pixel peeping the 67MP gives me more room to zoom in an remain Impressed. I always crop my birdie photos so having more pixels gives me room to Zoom! Write speed isn’t noticeable. And yeah I’ve held the shutter for a few seconds to see when the msg shows up that it’s writing. But when would u ever shoot like this? Birding or any wildlife is short bursts. Otherwise u have a million raws the side thru. IMHO. I think about the A1ii for a couple reasons. Managing smaller files in workflow. Probably a dopey idea as 50 vs 67 is probably not much size savings. BUT the one thing that I think is better on the A1 ii is the AF system. I watch videos that suggests locking in to targets and staying locked on is far better on the A1ii. However some of this could be easily down to my idiot skills. lol. I Still learning this camera and perhaps user factor is an issue. Do ur research. And if u think faster write speed and btr AF locking is crucial and the extra $2.5K don’t matter to u then get A1ii otherwise go for this 67MP superstar and expect improvements with firmware upgrades. It doesn't have a cord for the charger........... You have to buy a separate high power USB-C charger with cable to charge your battery. Big screw up from Sony

    • Not an A1 II Replacement, But It Is the Right High-End Camera For Most Sony Users
When information leaks about the 7R VI (I'll shorten that to "R VI") appear, there were speculations that it obsoleted the A1 II. Like the A1 II, it has a stacked sensor, shoots at 30fps, and has the best AF that Sony offers. Moreover, it has higher resolution (67MP to 50MP), a superior electronic view finder (EVF), and far superior battery life (due to a new battery). Reality, however, is complicated. The stacked sensor is noticeably slower than the A1's (19 or 14ms to the A1's 4ms), which difference can result in unacceptable rolling shutter for sports and fast-moving wildlife photography. Plus, banding may be a bigger issue under LED or florescent lighting. When you have to get the shot, almost any rolling shutter or banding is unacceptable. For the rest of us (I'm an advanced, not-quite-pro-level photographer), the R VI is the better choice. I rarely shoot under florescent lights (an occasional basketball game), and, so far I've not seen significant RS when shooting birds. The readout is faster when shooting in lossy RAW or jpg and produces results comparable to my Nikon Z9--a camera with readout on par with the a1 II. I suspect there will be challenging situations where the R VI will let me down, but I haven't encountered those yet (I've had the camera for less than a week). I bought the camera to replace my a7R IV. That camera takes beautiful images--frankly, from my limited time with the new camera, the R IV images are every bit as beautiful as R VI images. However, the R IV was incredibly slow, limited to 10fps burst rate with horrible rolling shutter artifacts. It is unsuitable for any action photography. By contrast, the R VI provides up to 30fps burst and controls rolling shutter well. Other things that set it apart include the best-in-breed pre-capture, which is great for sports or wildlife. An amazingly bright and smooth EVF that will make it difficult for you to go back to your old camera after using it. Unfortunately, the buffer is weaker than the a1 II, so be careful when shooting long bursts. In summary, for any Sony user shopping for a high-resolution all-around camera that's proficient at taking the highest-quality portrait and landscape shots as well as fast-action shooting, the r VI is the clear choice. There are only a small number of use cases--which are critical for many professionals--for which the a1 II trumps the A7R VI.
