Description

Canon’s all-new 45 Megapixel full-frame sensor is at the heart of the EOS R5’s superb image quality, which also leads the way for impressive 8K DCI cinematic movie capture with the ability to extract 35.4 Megapixel still images. Focus and speed are paramount in the EOS R5, providing impressive continuous capture at speeds of up to 20 frames-per-second and with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II capability, to track split second movements of even the most elusive of subjects. With 1,053 Automatic AF zones, it is easier than ever to photograph people with the use of Eye, Face and Head Detection AF, or intuitively track the whole body, face or eye of cats, dogs, or birds with Animal Detection AF. The 5-axis in-body image stabilization can effectively compensate for camera shake with approximately 8 stops of stabilization with use of both non- stabilized, and optically image stabilized lenses. Connectivity like 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, is also included.

  • Expensive but awesome
Style: Body Only Set: Body
The elephant in the room is the cost and video issues. I don't do video so I don't care about that aspect and Canon has fixed some of the issues with the latest firmware releases. As for the cost, there is no getting around it. For those able/willing to accept it, you will be getting a great camera. I was an old DSLR snob for the longest time but I haven't touched my DSLRs since I got this. I primarily shoot wildlife (birds) and landscape images. The shots I get with the R5 are incredible. I opted for the R5 over the R6 knowing that I would occasionally need to crop in for some bird images. I am able to maintain quality when cropping. The eye detection is truly amazing. I am continually surprised at how well the camera detects the birds from great distances through brush and busy backgrounds. That being said, there are times where I will revert to spot focusing since the camera will sometimes miss eye focus. The autofocus is also great for locking onto birds in flight. As a long time hobbyist, I could never hope to focus quick enough. The R5 eye detection allows me to capture images I would normally not get. I also use the camera to take pictures of my son's soccer games. I can track player movement, focus on specific players in a group, capture fast moving sequences. At 12 fps in mechanical mode, I am able to stop action with ease. I did use electronic shutter and it is smooth like butter. You are essentially taking a very fast stop action video. The problem is that you don't realize how many pictures you are capturing when you hold down the shutter button. You can fill a card pretty quickly in electronic mode. I only shoot to the SD card slot and have never filled the buffer during a game. Again, this is an expensive camera but it is worth the price tag for my uses. Great image quality. Incredible eye detection autofocus. Good image quality at high ISO (not a lot of noise). Ability to use my old EF lenses with an adapter with no loss in image quality or autofocus speeds. I have used the R5 with RF lenses and they do add another level of quality and decrease weight. I am just not ready to sell all my old EF lenses to invest in a pure RF system. ... show more

  • A True Beast – Canon’s Mirrorless Masterpiece!
Style: Body Only Set: Body
The Canon EOS R5 is hands down the most impressive camera I’ve ever used. As a hybrid shooter who does both photography and video, this camera checks every box and then some. Let’s start with the image quality—the 45MP sensor delivers stunning detail, dynamic range, and color. Whether I’m shooting portraits, landscapes, or events, the files are sharp and incredibly flexible in post. Autofocus is blazing fast and insanely accurate, especially with Eye/Face Detection. It locks on and tracks subjects like magic, even in challenging lighting. For video, the 8K recording is mind-blowing, and the 4K HQ mode looks cinematic and crisp. Canon's color science shines here. Overheating concerns were way overblown—it performs just fine in real-world use with proper settings and breaks between clips. In-body stabilization (IBIS) is a major win—handheld shots look rock-steady, and paired with RF lenses, the results are buttery smooth. The fully articulating touchscreen and dual card slots are also major conveniences. Yes, it’s an investment, but if you're a pro or serious enthusiast, the R5 is worth every penny. It’s fast, versatile, and absolutely reliable. Canon nailed it with this one. ... show more

This camera is still a beast in 2025. The quality is so good. It’s easy to use for me and is value for your money. I have not had any problems with how it functions and the WiFi connection to my devices is pretty good.

  • Excellent camera for details
Style: Lens Kit Set: Lens Kit
I wish I could give this camera more than 5 stars--it's been fantastic. I am a birdwatcher and have always enjoyed photographing nature, so a few years ago I started out with a Canon SX70. I've used that for several years (and am still using it) but recently wanted something that would capture more detail such as feather structures, etc. I have also become interested in spiders and macro photography. So while I'm not a professional photographer, I wanted a better camera as I was pushing the SX70 as far as it would go, especially in low light conditions where I found it had chromatic abberations at times. Enter the Canon EOS R5. I've only had the camera for a month and am still working with it to find the best settings for what I do, but the quality of the photos is amazing (especially considering that I'm not a great photographer and have no real idea what I'm doing). It is so worth the money. I've move the focus to the back buttons (I highly recommend this and watching the youtube videos by Brent Hall for the most important settings for wildlife photography) because I've found that while I set the focus to use animal eye detection, I use spot focus more than animal eye because I'm often photographing small birds in challenging situations such as swamp/forest or marshlands. In those situations, the animal eye focus often focuses on the twigs or reeds instead of on the bird. So I set up the * button for animal eye focus and left the AF ON button for spot focus while the shutter button simply meters and takes a photo. Oddly enough, what I find is that I use the animal eye focus to find the bird amidst the reeds or twigs and then use the spot focus to actually focus on the bird while I take the photo. It sounds weird, but it works for me and wouldn't work if I had left the focus on the shutter button. The point is that I have three custom modes and set up C1 with the settings that work for me, as well as setting up the back button focus, which means I can get some amazing shots. Just the other day, I was in the marsh and caught a brief glimpse of a common yellowthroat. I used the back button spot focus and thought for sure that I would only have a blurred photo of the bird before it flitted away, but when I looked, the bird was perfectly in focus. The camera and especially the lenses are much, much heavier than my old SX70 and it can be a little unweildy, but it has given me the extra resolution and detail that I sorely needed. I am also happy to have less/no chromatic aberrations. So far, I've been using solely Canon lenses and they've all worked very well. I am extremely pleased to have a camera now that I can "grow in to." I've also been interested in astrophography and the R5 is also capable of that, so I have additional uses for it as well as nature photography. It is an extremely versatile and well-built camera. It's solid and is definitely the way to go when taking a step up from other less powerful cameras. ... show more
