  • Everything I needed and more!
Set: Base Style: Body only
It’s very good value for money. I came from A5100, moved to A6400, bought the A6700 last year, and now the FX30. I like the fact that it has a full HDMI Which I use for my livestream on YouTube and OBS. I also like the fan which reduces heat. It took a few YouTube videos, but I was able to set it up easily to get the kind of look I want. I brought my lenses from the other cameras and they started working immediately. Strangely though, the fps numbers are 23.99, etc. instead of 24. Overall, I love it so much. The build quality is good and the weight is easy to carry around. I now use the FX30 as the A camera and the A6700 as the B. Oh, one more thing, I was able to add the SONY mount and have added functionality like using a dynamic and condenser mic without buying a sound card. I create real estate talking head videos and interviews on YouTube. Channel is Africa Building Hub. I also create short form content for Instagram and TikTok with this. I don’t think I will buy a new camera anytime soon. Maybe, until FX3 ... show more

  • The Best APSC camera for cinematic videos
Set: Base Style: Body only
This Sony FX30 has been my favorite purchase of the last 5 years. It has been great for creating content, personal projects, and helping me build a creative portfolio. It is fantastic for getting the dramatic cinema quality look to my video. Exactly what I was looking for.

  • Outstanding Video Performance
Set: Base Style: Body only
I purchased the FX30 for recording concerts and events, mainly classical music. It has the cinematic features I need most, except for a built-in ND filter. However it is much more portable than my FX5, and works with the excellent APS-C Sony FZ 18-110 f/4 video lens. I was somewhat hesitant about its low light capability compared to an A7Siii, but it proves to be up to the job, even in natural or room light for a salon concert. The rigid frame and built-in hard points for accessories, particularly rails and high-torque focusing motors, is invaluable. It has a full-sized HDMI port, which I can use directly, or convert to SDI or NDI as needed. ... show more

  • Superb, APS Cinema camera! With outstanding performance and features.
Set: Base Style: Body only
This is an amazing cinema camera! I have wanted this camera for the last 2 years. With it's features like CineEI, shutter angles, SLOG3, and soon BlackMagic bRAW support in 2025, this camera has not disappointed. It's a hellva upgrade from my old SONY A6600. Duo card slots, updated menu system, bright, articulating touch screen, 4K24, 4K30, 4K60, 4K120 fps, I am constantly finding something new with this thing everyday. The FX3 is out of my price range but the FX30 can do most of what it can and somethings that the FX3 cannot. ... show more

  • Perfect video camera
Set: Base Style: Body only
The media could not be loaded. Coming from a FF cannon I didn’t have high expectations but after 3 shoots I can say this thing is a beast. The built quality feels great! The autofocus is bananas! Never really used AF on a camera before. The final footage is soft but I like how you can have total control in post. The low light issue isn’t really an issue. Learn how to light your subjects. The options on the camera are easy and the menu is straight forward. This camera does not over heat! I shot in the rain and it held up but don’t push it. When I have my rig on it the appearance is professional. I would recommend this camera to the hardcore video person that don’t care about photos and don’t want to spend double for a fx3. You’ll be happy with it. ... show more

  • Good image quality and tracking autofocus
Set: Base Style: w/ XLR Handle Unit
Things I like...I get good results recording 4K XAVC S video onto a V90 SDXC card. I shoot in SLog3 and apply a display LUT to the LCD and to color correction in Davinci Resolve. "Flexible exposure" mode lets the camera set parameters which you can override and reset to manual. Touch autofocus sets lens focus on a particular screen region and toggles manual focus. A push on the center dial switches back to autofocus. Facial tracking is very good. You can sync the internal clock with an LTC timecode device using appropriate cables. 3d party E mount lenses are available. The camera is smaller and lighter than most competitors. Things I don't like... The camera doesn't record RAW video internally. There is no EVF. The online manual is very confusing. I found a YouTube user video that was much better. The XLR handle doesn't fold into a small package and the preamps seem noisy. Instead, I use a small Rode mic mounted on the hot shoe and plugged into the 3.5mm mic input on the camera. Sony G series lenses are good but expensive. CFast Type A cards are very expensive. To use gyroscope data for image stabilization in 4K you have to subscribe to the Sony Catalyst non free version at $200/yr. That's outrageous. Gyro stabilization and RAW recording are included with Blackmagic cameras at no extra charge. I'm happy with the camera overall and carry it around to lots of places that I wouldn't take a larger camera. I'm learning to use it on a DJI RS3 mini gimbal. My other cameras are too big for that. This camera may be a gateway drug to the FX3 but it's larger sensor requires larger lenses. I'll stick with the FX30 for now. ... show more
