Features

  • A partially stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor features high-speed circuitry above and below the sensing layer. Sensor readout is approx. 4.5 x*1 faster than the 7 IV, maximum shutter speed is 1/16000 s, *2 blackout-free bursts at up to 30 fps are available with AF/AE tracking, *3 and video can be recorded at 4K 120p.*4 This advanced sensor contributes up to an unprecedented 16 stops of dynamic range*5 with smooth gradations.
  • The new BIONZ XR2 processing engine delivers dramatic improvements in image and sound quality, communication, integration, and operation. It also incorporates AI-based Real-time Recognition AF and*6 Real-time Tracking, *7 plus accurate, stable color reproduction. A lightweight RAW format has been included, while user interface, networking, and file management functions have been refined for smooth workflow.
  • The new 33.0-megapixel*8 sensor and BIONZ XR2 processing engine work together to deliver up to 16 stops of dynamic range. *9 Lifelike gradations from shadows to highlights enable highly effective HDR processing when needed, and effective noise reduction applied at all sensitivities achieves high resolution throughout the ISO 100-51200 still and movie range (expandable to 50-204800 for stills and 100-102400 for movies).
  • An advanced optical stabilization unit, gyro sensors, and algorithm accurately detect and correct image shake. Up to 7.5-step central and 6.5-step peripheral stabilization*14 allows handheld shooting without having to boost sensitivity. The body also works with compatible lenses*15 for even better stabilization. Even shake that is amplified at telephoto focal lengths is effectively suppressed.
  • AI processing in the new BIONZ XR2 processing engine improves recognition by approximately 30% over the 7 IV. Human pose estimation technology uses detailed form and pose data to achieve reliable human eye recognition as well as accurate recognition of body and head position, even with challenging subjects. Multiple subjects can also be recognized, making it possible to track the desired subject.

  • Amazing hybrid camera in the Sony Alpha line.
Style: Body Only
It is a Sony Alpha, so if you are familiar with the line, this one does not disappoint. The A7 V is a hybrid, meant to do a good job in a variety of situations, without being the best in any of them. 33 MP sensor, so excellent resolution, without going to the denser sensors (R series) where video speed would start to suffer. Video is amazing with up to 4K 120 fps, with new cooling that enables it to essentially shoot 4K 60 without overheating until the battery runs out! (depending on the ambient temperature of course). It has the latest autofocus which is amazingly fast and is good at locking on the eye of a subject, person, animal or insect. With Sony lenses, it can shoot up to 30 shots per second before the buffer fills and shooting slows. Not as fast as the A9 III, but it also less than half the cost. Even better: you can set up the buffer with up to 30 shots while you have the shutter button half pressed, when you press it, it saves that entire buffer from before the press! This way you can capture moments that occurred before you were able to press the shutter release! The efficiency of the camera has also increased, so the same battery that powers the entire line of Alpha cameras, now last longer in this one. With the inclusion of two (!) USB-C ports, you can also directly charge the battery without removing it from the camera! For those that shoot special events, the quite mode is amazing. Full electronic shutter and muting all the indicators (like focus beep), this camera is completely silent other than the super quiet focusing of some lenses. When I was using this mode, I was not even sure it took a picture! All the dials and controls are well labeled and intuitive to use, even if you are used to another brand. Even if a dial or button seems like it is in the wrong place, the great news is just about everyone of them is customizable, so you can configure the layout to what you use, where you want to use it. Even surfacing controls that would normally be under a menu, replacing a buttons standard control that you may not want or use frequently. I traded up from my ZV-E1 to this camera and have found it an improvement in every way. If you need an all-around excellent camera that can cover most situations and have or like the Sony E-Mount system, then this is the #1 choice. ... show more

  • Maybe the best hybrid camera out there.
Style: Body Only
Huge upgrade, incredible video quality, and finally feels “complete” I upgraded to the Sony A7V and I’m honestly blown away. The image quality is extremely sharp and clean, and the camera just feels like a major step forward overall. The autofocus is fast and reliable, even in indoor lighting, and the footage looks amazing straight out of the camera. I shoot a lot of video (gym content and general lifestyle stuff), and the A7V has been a game changer for getting that crisp cinematic look without fighting the camera. I also love how responsive the menus and controls are. Everything feels quick and professional compared to what I’m used to and not too heavy. Pros: • Beautiful image quality (photo + video) • Autofocus is excellent • Great low light performance • Feels like a real upgrade in speed and usability • Strong overall build quality Cons: • You’ll want extra batteries if you shoot a lot of video (normal for mirrorless) • Takes a little time to learn all the settings if you’re new to Sony Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase and I’d 100% recommend it if you want a camera that can handle both high quality photos and serious video. I do wish it was a bit cheaper but it’s still worth the money. ... show more

  • Another best camera from Sony.
Style: Body Only
Having this camera for 3 weeks, I still couldn't find any major flaws on it yet. This camera really delivers on its strength such as autofocus, fast response, auto white balance, low light capability, excellent dynamic range, and so on. I've own several bodies including Nikon Z8, Z7ii, Z6iii, Leica SL2, and Sony a7RV and find this Sony a7V to be one of most enjoyable one as well. I understand and know how to use cameras based on its strengths and weaknesses because they are just tools for us to make photos and videos. Our skills are the most important ingredient to create impactful results. ... show more

  • Nikon to FujiFilm to Sony
Style: Body Only
I shot Nikon for years before moving to Fujifilm. I still miss the D850. My goal was to build a more capable hybrid setup, and I was drawn to the look Fujifilm produces. Over time, autofocus performance on the X-H2S became a problem for me. When focus landed, the images were excellent. The issue was consistency. Too often the camera appeared to have perfect eye detection, but once I reviewed the files on a computer, focus had slightly missed. I lost more frames than I was comfortable with. Switching to Sony has been a very different experience. The autofocus reliability is outstanding. I rarely miss a shot now. That fundamentally changes how I shoot because I can concentrate on timing and composition instead of worrying about whether focus actually locked. The color science is more neutral and less distinctive straight out of camera compared to Fujifilm. That does not concern me. I would rather start with a clean, accurate file and shape it in post than have beautiful color on an image that is not critically sharp. With Lightroom and Camera Raw support continuing to improve, dialing in color profiles should only get easier. I have not done extensive video work yet, but the feature set is impressive. 4K at 120 frames per second is a significant advantage for my needs, even with the slight crop. In hindsight, I am glad I spent time with Fujifilm before moving to Sony. It forced me to refine my technique because you cannot rely purely on automation. That said, Sony’s performance, especially autofocus consistency, has exceeded expectations. If reliability is your priority, this system delivers. ... show more
