As much as I loved Nintendo's Mario Mart 8 and other racing games Hands down Sega shows you how its done with this game Takes me back to the good old Sega Dream cast days when Sega was a giant This game is the best racing game in Nintendo's library of games The launch edition switch 2 version with the Werehog upgrade Still thinking if its worth the couple bucks to get this upgrade? First things first: anyone claiming this game is somehow equal to or better than Mario Kart World is coping HARD. And that's from someone that has no loyalty to either mascot; I just like kart racers. CrossWorlds absolutely is a fun game, but like so many games with Sonic Team attached, it's got some problems. First and most egregious is that the karts themselves don't feel like they have any kind of weight or momentum to them. They feel as thought they're floating an inch off the ground, much like Sega's old arcade racers. Drift stopped being a novelty a decade or two back; once you have that and flicking the thumbstick to do mid-air tricks down, that's basically it in terms of gameplay. The graphics are fine, if a little budget title adjacent. At the highest speeds, this is significantly faster than anything you'll find in the Mario Kart games, which is a welcome distinction. Tracks and characters are all rendered in Sonic's typically edgy and colorful style - if that's your thing, there's a lot to like. The music is god awful, sounding like Vocaloid background music that's coming from the bottom of a well. I'm stunned that the sound mixing for this game was OK'd; almost all of the music sounds like you're hearing it underwater. Really weird. Tracks are only okay. Many of them are derivative of Mario Kart tracks, only jankier. All that said, the Switch 2 port is a huge improvement over the OG Switch version. Always nice when a dev team actually puts in the work to take advantage of the additional power. And props to Sega for releasing this PROPERLY on an honest to God game card. More of that please!
