I suffer from constant migraines. A friend of mine who has constant migraines as well suggested I try this. I was skeptical at first. I mean, I'm taking so many medications that don't do squat to help the pain, how can a gel help me? I was SO wrong. Thank you Danielle for insisting I try some. This warm therapy gel is like heaven when you're migraine is starting. In fact, this is like heaven on any aching muscle. I put some gel on my forehead, temples, behind my ears and up near the base of my neck when the pain is starting. This feels so wonderful. After the migraine, when you feel like you've been hit by a semi-truck and dragged for 20 miles on a gravel road, the gel feels wonderful. I have put it everywhere I can! On my legs, on the bottoms of my feet, in-between my toes, on my back, neck, palms of my hands. My daughter wears Icy Hot, and man oh man does that stuff stink. This has a pleasant scent, mentholy type of scent. More like a Vicks scent than an Icy Hot, but still more pleasant than Vicks. At a recdent family event, both my mom and step dad came down with migraines (probably the stress of having that much family constantly around). I had them try this gel. They loved it. It works, and it works fast. Don't get me wrong, you still need to take your medications, but this helps make the time it takes to start working almost liveable. PROS • Works FAST • WORKS!! • Helps relieve migraine pain • Helps relieve muscle aches • Has a pleasant scent, unlike stinky Icy Hot • Can be used anywhere (except your eyes) • Non medicinal, so you can use repeated times. • No drug interactions that I am aware of • Safe for sensitive skin (I have eczema, and had no reactions) CONS • Avoid getting it in your eyes! I love this stuff. I keep it by my bedside and rub it into all my sore spots before I go to bed at night. It is so soothing and relaxing and really help take away the pain of sore joints and muscles. It definitely helps with a good nights sleep. I really like the smell too! It has a nice citrusey smell. I first was introduced to it by a chiropractor at his office. I had a back issue and after he adjusted my back he rubbed this into the area he had worked and I almost purred! I made him sell me a jar of it right there and then. Great stuff! ... show more

Relief!!! I have devoted some time into pain relief creams and there are two OTC creams that stand out. This is one of them. What you want to be aware of is that Sombra relies on capsaicin, an ingredient derived from hot peppers. The basic premise is that the largest pain receptor on the body is the skin and, since the body cannot perceive pain in more than one area at a time, this cream activates all the pain receptors across the area it is spread upon until the original area cannot be felt. This does not mean that one is writhing in pain, upon using this cream as the most you'll feel is an intense warmth. Where this stands above BenGay, Icy Hot, Mineral Ice, and others is its effectiveness. Shaq can do all the Icy Hot commercials he wants and I hope they pay him well cause no more than a nickel sized amount of Sombra last hours longer than a quarter sized amount of Icy Hot. Sombra is also not water based and by the time you have noticed that it is no longer active, your original pain will have dulled to the point of being unnoticeable. As an example, a friend of my mother has been hard done by with cancer treatments and a bad car crash that left her back feeling terrible, most of the time. I sent her some of this product with the instructions that she's only to rub it across her shoulder blades and not directly where it hurts. She still calls, more than a month later, to thank me. Personally, I have had bad leg/knee pain setting in and I have rubbed this across my forearm and stopped feeling the pain in my leg; that's how effective this is. Now that you know the good, you should be aware of some things about this cream. As with any decent tool, this has a double edge. First, you should never attempt to rely, long term, on this product. Sore muscles or a diagnosed medical condition is one thing but if you have prolonged pain, then it may be a good idea to get yourself looked at, medically, instead of continuously applying this cream. Second, if you overuse this product, your body will start to adapt to it and it will stop being as effective. The other thing to be aware of deals with the strength of this cream. The odor of this cream is strong enough to warrant only being used at home or in environments where it is not an issue. Also, it is simply not a good idea to apply this cream to the top of the shoulders or the neck as the fumes will irritate the tear ducts to the point where your eyes will turn bloodshot, while you cry yourself into dehydration. This leads me to the other, more serious, result of losing this cream: BEWARE and woe to you should you forget to wash your hands after using this cream. Accidentally touching your eye or scratching/picking your nose is bad enough but, if you use a restroom while residue of this cream is on your hands, you will learn a lesson that you could go your entire life without and not lament missing the experience.
