  • Easy to use
Size: Original Plugs, 0.25" Diameter
For the past 2 years I’ve been using an Allen wrench to place these plugs. I’ve had to cut them down to make them fit, I’ve accidentally put other holes in the solar panel. When I got this kit, the plugs go in much easier. The kit is a little spendy, but now I know it’s worth it.

  • Works great, but could use some improvements
Size: Original Plugs, 0.25" Diameter
Plugs and tool worked great with some caveats. Overview: Tool is non trivial to put together. Consider bending the curved blade a bit to narrow it if you are using the small plugs. Use a metal putty knife (or something similar) to keep the blade from slipping and cutting the tube next to your broken tube while cutting. Might not be necessary to place plugs close to the header. The tool is hard to put together. There are instructions on how to use the tool and plugs, but no instructions on how to put to the tool together (except the note on the box that says the blade is inside the handle. I took some pictures of how I put the tool together. Essentially you wedge the dull end of the blade between the thin small piece of metal and the nubb shaped part. The two small pieces are placed into the metal screw on piece from the bottom but the blade portion is slid in from the top of that screw on part. When you tighten the metal screw on part the blade is smashed between the two pieces and held in place. Suggestions on improvements and usage based on my experience and other reviews I read: The Cutting tool can easily cut tubes NEXT to the one you are trying to repair. The combo pack offers 2 sizes of plugs but only a single tool for both tube sizes! Since my Fafco solar panel uses the smaller plugs I used a wrench to bend the tool together a bit to reduce the width of the cut. I also used a putty knife (but any strong metal shield would work) to prevent the tool from slipping into the tube next to it. I place the putty knife on the line between two tubes. Then I push tool against the putty knife and strip the tube that needs to be repaired. I then move the putty knife to the other side of the tube I'm repairing and repeat. I have to strip from both sides of the tube because I narrowed my tool and by pushing against the putty knife I'm not landing flat on top of the tube. The instructions say to strip the broken tube 2 inches away from the header on both sides. This means double the cutting... So instead I just stripped at the leak and then pushed the plugs into both directions form a single hole. I'm not sure there's much benefit in moving the plugs closer to the headers. ... show more

  • Leaks and entirely unnecessary (see photos for alternate fix)
Size: Original Plugs, 0.25" Diameter
This leaked (yes I got the right size). As it turns out, you don't need this product. Simply get #10 wood screws (stainless steel recommend especially for salt pools) -- cut away the section of the leaking ribs near the supply / return tubes and screw in the wood screws. Works every time. This product is overpriced and entirely unnecessary. Hope this helps people save money. ... show more

  • Cheap and worthless.
Was thinking this might be a better way of doing a repair. The tool bends when it is not falling out of the handle. If you have a box cutter blade and a #1 Phillips screwdriver you don't need to spend $50 for this kit. Cost me $50 to learn but you are learning if for free by reading this. BTW their return policy will take away 75% of your refund. ... show more
