  • Awesome Tomahawk!
Style: Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
My first thing that popped into my head when I pulled it out were: "Wow, this is small." The second thing that popped into my head was : "This packaging is stupid!" (have a knife ready, you'll need one, unless you like fiddling with zip ties for half an hour) The third thing that popped into my head was: "Who cares if these are small, they are awesome!" I am giving this a good review, because I like tomahawks anywhere I can get to use them: Video games (dead rising 2, black ops, red dead redemption), real life, axe throwing competitions on t.v., absolutely anywhere. I am a knife collector, but my love of tomahawks goes deeper than my love of knives. If you are an axe thrower, don't be fooled by the small size, this will throw well, and far, and fast. It is throwing sharp right out of the box, and I nearly cut myself seeing how sharp it was. If you want a small, utility style tomahawk, instead of those flimsy ones we all hate to get suckered into trying out, do not fear, you could put up a fight against a possessed pile of cinder blocks if you needed to. This will kill zombies, mini golems, rabid coyotes, demon monkeys, or anything that you can think of. I won't suggest fighting off a bear or mountain lion, you'll need a shotgun for cqb with one of them. Also, these are a much better size for fighting hawks, mostly due to the fact the voodoo hawk looks like it should belong to optimus prime (who wants a tact'ed out hawk looking like it's from planet cybertron?". I also would advise learning how to throw hawks. They are still good defense weapons when thrown. If a guy with tiny knife threatens you, you take out this hawk, which is well under three inches in blade length, he'll be scared out of the pantyhose he's using to cover his face. Clearing small brush is nothing but easy with this hawk. I was so into this item I bought 4 of them. My grandfather helped design some of the multi-tools sog makes, or used to make, and still has the one they gave him. This is a multi-tool of tomahawks, so don't be afraid to put it through it's paces. Trust me, you won't be able to break it, and if your still unsure about it, try to, sog will replace it with a brand new one. Every sog tomahawk comes with a lifetime warranty. Also buy some grip tape too, you may find the handle to be slippery when you're all sweaty from working with it for a while. Over all, buy MORE THAN one, you'll love them. ... show more

  • Solid build & great quality.
Style: Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
Solid build & great quality. Pretty much what you'd expect from SOG. I use it for basic outdoors/camping activity & also keep it in my car for the off chance I need it for breaking into/out of somewhere. It's small enough to fit in a backpack but not too small where it's unusable. If you're in the market for something like this & don't want to spend hundreds of extra dollars on an RMJ this is the way to go. It's not knife-blade sharp but a few mins with a file and you can get a very sharp edge on it. Also the spike on the back is great...can be used for whatever devious ideas you can come up with. ... show more

  • 10/10
Style: Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
These tomahawks are lightweight, easy to throw and develop consistent throws at multiple distances, and are flawless in tactical design in my opinion. The beard drops low enough that these can be used in close quarters protecting the knuckles and can quickly develop into short to medium range threat. Or vice versa if you carry a pair. They are so lightweight and well profiled they conceal easily about your person. As far as the complaints about the handle I think it’s just bad luck. I have a set of three dedicated to just throwing. I have hit or knicked the handle multiple times grouping shots and it still takes a beating. A cheap file set will help with a quick easy sharpening tool and should be used to flatten and sharpen the rear spike. This axe is almost impossible to drop with a bit of practice. You can cleanly stick the axe and control the angle with good wrist control. Reverse grip throws provide a reliable spike first hit that slam the handle upwards and forwards. If used defensively any shot center mass with a reverse grip is going to lodge in the chest or lungs and deliver a handle strike to the face. This could also easily be used for small game. Even a “missed” throw can still deliver tremendous impact. The complaints about the handle are just bad luck. They are actually my favorite aspect of the weapon. I have intentionally thrown this tomahawk to land in a such a way that the handle literally smacks the target every time. They’re basically bullet proof. 6/5 on quality, design, and consistency in the end user products. Some basic maintenance such as sharpening is an obvious must with any blade. I found that I increased the performance when I sanded down the acute edges on the non cutting surfaces and slightly reprofiling the skull crusher. A good quick sanding on the handle in between use keeps the handle smooth yet still grippy and it releases like butter every time. I don’t know I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Amazon and I basically never leave reviews. These are the real deal in every aspect no matter your intended purpose. ... show more

  • Nice hawk
Style: Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
Works great and i love it, but it was not exactly what I expected. My main gripe is the steel. 420J? come on SOG, thats what the liners of decent folding knives are made of. Cant hold an edge worth shit, but hey, 20 bucks...I also though it would be super lightweight but it actually does have some heft to it. sure its light weigh at only 19 ounces, but still, for a guy who hasnt used a hatchet in a while and is used to mid sized 8 ounce knives, it takes some getting used to. Another thing unexpected was just HOW SMALL IT ACTUALLY IS. This thing is small, but in a way, just the right size as well. i tried it out when i got it and was able to split small logs, chop branches fairly easily, and even bust through a couple of flat rocks with the spike. I also tried hammering with it, however i will say that it was a bit awkward. This hawk is definately a capable little tool despite it's size and it seems like it will hold up through even hard use. Full tang would have been nice, but whatever, i guess you cant have everything. great hawk, especially at the price point. I mean come on, 20 bucks and a lifetime warranty? Awesome. way to go SOG. Would highly recommend this product. One other thing that might be worth mentioning is that upon closer inspection, i realized that the hawk was actually slightly crooked near the head. I only found out now so i cant say whether it was from the work i was doing (maybe the hammering?) or whether it came that way The handle is perfectly straight up until it joins the head, where it starts curving to the left as if the two prongs (I guess you could say) of the handle that sandwich the steel tang are bent and therefore the steel sits at an angle. But oh well, i don't foresee any problems coming from this in the future. and if they do? Lifetime warranty baby! Hell, even if that fails for some reason, its only 20 bucks for a new one right? I would gladly buy another, these things are great. Overall an amazing product at an amazing price. ... show more

  • Terrific Tactical Tomahawk.
Style: Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
I am a Cold Steel fan, and really admire their quality. I also like the American Hickory handles. BUT, this tactical tomahawk is well built too !!! It throws well, and can be very, very sharp. I do have some training with different weapons, and this little baby is no slouch in that department. It's real use comes from the fact that it is almost designed to run along the Molle webbing of my Maxpedition Sitka. It comfortably sits there and won't go anywhere despite a rigorous hike. One small velcro tie, and this won't slip out accidentally - no way and no how. But the velcro strip is easily removed, and this Tomahawk deploys nicely. On dried wood, from the middle of the summer, this will service nicely. It is smaller and will require a bit more effort to get rid of a downed tree, but from a survival perspective - just perfect. I have not "pressure tested" the handle, but suspect it can withstand a brutish amount of force. It won't come a part on you. I bought mine on a bit of sale, and it was well worth the price. Put this on your wish list, and strike when that iron is hot !!! ... show more

  • Functions great as a low weight emergency axe
Style: Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
I have owned one of these for about a decade. I have never used it as a throwing axe, but have used it primarily as a camping axe and garage tool. Over the years I have used to dig roots out of the front yard, pull rocks and paving stones out, split small amounts of firewood and other basic tasks. This little axe holds up great, it takes a giant beating and sharpens up quick and easy to go back out again. I have take chips out of it over the years and had to resharpen, but I cant blame the tool as most any other axe would have had the same issue given the abuse it was taking. This axe functions best for small and light tasks as it is very lightweight. If you keep it sharp and available it will handle a good many tasks but due to its light weight and small profile, it will struggle for tasks better suited for a medium to large axe and dull quick, that said its a great and cheap investment for an emergency tool, hatchet replacement for camping, etc. ... show more

  • SOG Fasthawk
Style: FastHawk - Satin Polished Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
I've never owned any sort of tomahawk or hatchet before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. When the SOG Fasthawk arrived in the mail, it was exactly the size I expected it to be (I purposely ordered it over the larger model). A burning question among buyers, including myself before buying, was "why buy the polished model?" Simply put, tomahawks are for throwing, and for most people who would throw a tool like this, an all-black model would be hard to find given you miss your target and you didn't quite catch where the hawk bounced off to. The extra few dollars are well worth the extra visibility of finding your hawk if you lose it in the bush. Not to mention it looks absolutely awesome in the air! I bought the Fasthawk (keep in mind, it's 12 inches long from the head to the base of the handle) because I'm a smaller person (5'5", 120 lbs) with little hands, and also for the ease of concealment. They both have plastic sheaths manufactured for them, but they cost about the same as the hawk itself and for most people the nylon sheath is enough. The reduction in size and weight means that any action you perform with the Fasthawk will be weaker than if you did the same with the Tomahawk (15 inches overall, same measurement points). The tomahawk has the edge as an all-around tool, but the fasthawk, I think, has the edge as a weapon. Swings and throws are faster, and it can be stowed away in even a simple drawstring backpack. For me, the smaller model was the ideal buy. Throwing these hawks is a matter of distance judgement and consistent throwing technique. If you can master both of those, you'll be able to hit targets at some pretty wild distances within a few weeks of normal use. Regarding quality and neatness of the product, I'd say SOG did a very good job in the manufacturing process, and they know how to make a hawk for sure. I once threw mine and thought I'd have to reprofile the entire edge because I missed my target and my hawk slammed edge-first into a rock. By some miracle, the edge was fine and only needed a 1 minute file session to get rid of the burr that formed on the point of impact. For stainless steel, the head is extremely tough and will last a long time. Reading through my own review, I've realized Tomahawks are one of those things were there's just so many uses that it's hard to choose which of the basic few models would be the most worth it. To be honest, if you're not nit-picky and your habits are flexible, buy whichever one you want; it's more about size for you. If you're a stickler when it comes to your gear, then you might have to think a little bit. Polished or unpolished? Tomahawk or fasthawk? Should I even buy a SOG or buy a more expensive, higher quality model? How about that new voodoo hawk? The choices are seemingly endless, but rest assured that SOG makes a mean line of tomahawks regardless of which one you buy. Can't go wrong with these hawks. ... show more

  • Quality and price cant be beat, an awesome tactical hatchet
Style: Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black Pattern Name: Fast Hawk
I actually have both sizes of this item. They are both awesome, however I prefer this smaller one over the large one as it is just as capable as the slightly larger one but with a MUCH SHORTER HANDLE, allowing this one to fit much easier inside of virtually any bug out bag , where as the other larger one I have wont fit in just any bag as this smaller just as capable one will. I cant see it taking any longer to chop down a small tree or cut fire wood with this one versus the larger one, the inconvenience of the size of the handle on the larger one just make it not as valuable as this one in my humble opinion. Best thing is it was sent via free super shipper savings and arrived just as fast as if I had paid extra for shipping, plus there was no tax, plus it came right to my door and I got an instant message on my phone when it arrived. The local sports store here is Turners outdoors and they sell this same item for approximately $20 more than this one plus you have to pay tax on top of it. So this is basically a no brainer between PRICE, QUALITY and SPEED AND QUALITY OF AMAZON FREE SUPER SHIPPER SAVINGS PROGRAM. This is one of those purchases that you just feel good about all the way around and makes you completely satisfied and could not be happier with any portion of the purchase or product, the type of product and service that Amazon has built their reputation on and continue to deliver, basically monopolizing the majority of my specialty purchases. ... show more
