  • Man, this is a good knife
Color: Flat dark earth and blue
For comparison, I have the Northfork(wood), regular griptilian, 940-2, bug out, and series of other knives including several spydercos including the paramilitary 2 and karahawk. I initially liked the quality of the spydercos and they were among my first higher quality knives that I owned. I was always under the impression that spydercos were top of the line, but then I decided to try the grip full sized. Then I went nuts and got the 940, then the bug out, then the mini grip. These knives hold an edge longer than other knives by far of the same steel. Not only that, the axis lock > any other locking mechanism hands down. The blade shapes imho are more practical and universal. After owning the north fork and mini, I didn't think I needed a bug out but this is a solid knife. Slightly longer than a mini grip and north fork but slightly shorter than a 940. Thinner and much lighter than all the knives I have in my collection. It is a solid knife to add to the rotation so much that all of my spydercos except the pm2 are being phased out. Comparably, the manix is the next best thing within this size but I much prefer the ergos of benchmades, this blade shape, and the quality of heat treat to this metal over all. Honestly, I was concerned from reviews about the scales and the pocket clip. It's true the scales feel cheap but they're solid. I don't believe it'll break at all. I wouldn't use this as a survival or bush knife but edc or slicing, it's perfect and extremely effective. The pocket clip is great, love the size and how much less evasive it looks than a full sized pocket clip. I don't understand what the complaints about the pocket clip is about as I have no issues sliding the clip into my pants easily without needing to fiddle with it, even when I got it brand new and hadn't broken it in yet. My favorites in order 1. 940 2. Grip 3. Bug out, north fork, and mini grip (can't decide) (I love the light Bug out and the clip but the scales feel cheap even though they're pretty sturdy but the other knives are thicker and better suited for piercing and heavier duty, therefore pros and cons depending on what you need it for) 4. Pm2 5. Karahawk I am typically very brand neutral, but I've been won over from spydercos hands down. I just need bm to come out with a knife that rivals the karahawk. 100% recommend the bug out. I have the original blue. I'm looking at a adamas to complete my collection ... show more

  • Light weight sacrifices strength
Color: Flat dark earth and blue
Good quality, but the price is for how light weight it is not how strong. In terms of a premium product I can’t justify the price for how flimsy the grips are. It’s likely just me and hands but the scales feel flimsy in my hand where I can feel it dip in the middle. You can buy aftermarket scales but they are a bit pricey and sacrifice weight unless you spend a good bit extra. And double the price for carbon scales isn’t worth it. In terms of edge retention it was good the blade doesn’t show any scratches since it’s a stone finish though I only had it for a day. The blade grind could be better it was done at a low grit but the overall size and angle is good. Opening is a bit stiff so you might want to tune it or lube it or both. It’s a handsome looking knife which is why I got it but I returned it as I prefer my civivi and the price to value I get but if you want light weight can’t beat the buyout, you would honestly forget it’s in your pocket! ... show more

  • Lock stick lock stick lock stick and more lock stick
Color: Ranger Green Grivory - Cerakote Finish
Lock stick like crazy. Terrible lock stick so bad the axis lock hurts your fingers to try to pull the lock bar back to close the blade. Lots of them have it and with how severely they are overpriced that shouldn't happen as it should be caught at QC. These knives are over priced by around 70 dollars, its a solid 120 dollar knife but at 190 it's just spectacularly over priced and for that much butterfly tax I fully expect a perfectly QC'ed example and not one with massive lock slick. Will the lock stick break in and get less over time? Yes it will but the fact of the matter is there shouldn't be a pinch of lock stick on a knife that is so vastly over priced. I mean 20 dollar China crossbar lock/axis lock knives won't have a lick of lock stick so there is absolutely no reason a 190 dollar bugout out should have lock stick it's far to common on Benchmades, ide say as bad as, 2 out of 3 will have lock stick and one out of those three will have really bad lock stick. I don't want to have to flick a knife open and closed a 2k times in order to break it in to reduce the lock stick not to mention with all those times opening and closing it to break it in so the lock stick gets better guess what? You are wearing those frigile omega springs out. They are known for breaking and that's because they do, I've had plenty of them break over the years. They break in the same spot, other companies are using much better springs that don't break yet BM keeps on using the same springs that they know fail and the crazy part is one may last you thousands of open and closes but the next one might break on you in ten. I have a 940 that I've owned for like 13 years and it's literally been opened and closed probably 15k times and has half the blade sharpened away and it's only broke on spring about a year ago so I replaced them with new BM springs and one of those replacements broke in 2 days lol. I have a Grip that was bought new and both springs broke within the first day of use and I have a couple bugouts that have done pretty well and lasted good but I also have a bugout and a mini bugout that had broken springs within a week and I don't fidget with my knives. So what I'm saying is they are a ticking clock and you never know when that clock will stop ticking BUT you do know that it will at some point. It might be the first open and close or the 15 thousandth but it will fail at some point and likely on the sooner end rendering the knife useless and that could be a real problem depending on where you are and what you are doing at the time and how important that knife is at that time. That's why I would NEVER carry a BM with Omega springs if I'm doing something that a knife is going to be a critical part of because you never know when it's going to fail on you. They could fix it, just buy the Omega springs here on Amazon and they don't fail I have a 535-3 bugout with them in it and they have lasted many many many thousands of flicks as my son carries that knife a lot and he fidget with it like crazy so God only knows how many cycles are on those springs but ide be willing to bet it's over 50k and they are still just as strong as day one when the BM springs on that knife failed within a week on me. I love Benchmade I really do but I'm tired of the drastic over pricing and QC that doesn't match the premium price... I don't mind over paying for a product so long as the product I'm getting is absolute perfect and that's just not something you get often enough with BM, I do believe this will have been my very last BM purchase. ... show more
