This thing does exactly what you're seeking: it sharpens knives and tools. It's not magic and won't leave a mirror edge on your blade. You'll have to run your knife or tool through the carbide and ceramic more than a few times for a good sharp edge. How many pulls through each is dependent on how dull the blade is, how hard the steel is, and how sharp you want it to be. It's better than average and will in fact give you a very sharp result if you invest enough careful effort. It WON'T sharpen a dull edge with 2 or 3 pulls - stop being lazy! If your edge is duller than CSPAN between speeches and floor votes, expect to spend five to fifteen minutes on the carbide side before moving to the ceramic to finalize your edge. If it's still fairly sharp, just a few pulls on the ceramic side is all you'll need. If you're sharpening a soft knife...well, throw that thing away once you've realized it doesn't hold an edge. (I've seen people grind off serrations on steak knives, ruining the edge and heat treatment and turning good blades into garbage incapable of holding an edge. I still own one of those for demonstration purposes.) The whistle is as loud as your lungs can make it. The magnesium firestarter creates an impressive shower of sparks when you drag it along the spine of a thick-bladed knife. The diamond-coated rod is great for serrations. Expect to spend a LOT of time resharpening those! Sorry, there's no magic wand to reduce the effort serrations require. That's okay - it's a trade-off for how well they multiply your cutting edge. Overall it's hard to imagine you'll be disappointed after spending less than ten bucks on this handy tool. It's a lot better than many others in the category!

Excellent tool, this sharpening device is very useful for keeping your blades tip top razors with answers for any kind of blade. It even has a rod to get your serrated blades sharp as you would like them. Add to that a signal whistle and a fire starter that gives you a fantastic deal for about 10 Bucks and it doesn’t get any better than that. I will definitely carry this tool out to the field so I will always be Semper Paratus for keeping my bladed tools Ready for Action.

I’ve sharpened all my blades with this. It is very compact and very easy to use. It’s not heavy, and it is good at sharpening blades. It’s pretty durable (surprisingly) and the grip isn’t bad either. There are 2 sharpening options, the metal or the other option. The only thing I don’t like is that the metal option kinda does a rough job with the blade. It’s not a pretty finish. It does the job and makes it sharp, very sharp, but it’s not a pretty or smooth finish. Not smooth at all, in fact, after using this sharpener my blade kinda catches onto cloth. Again, it does its job very nicely. And it’s good for the price. If you really want what’s best for your blades though, you might want to use stones or something else. This does not give a very smooth finish.

Great quality sharpener that works! Really like the added diamond hone for rounded serrations, but can be used multiple ways on other things too. It's a lot larger than the pics make it look. Maybe I'll draw out the measurements on paper in the future lol!

We purchased a couple of these, sharing them with a few relatives who are intense hikers. We also purchased for ourselves and our survival kit. We live on the oceanfront and put in our Tsunami bug out kit. It has the all important sharpener aspect, but also a fire starter. A whistle, etc. Husband reports that the sharpener works very well on his pocket knife collection. Win/win. We probably all need one of these! Small, compact and easy to carry or put into a kit. Having said all of this, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. It's ok I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, but I've watched several videos and tried them on different knives, and it does kind of sharpen, but nothing compared to what they're advertising, it can't take the knife across a piece of paper with little to no resistance, that doesn't exist with sharpener, and again, this is a very simple Design,ease of use is a little bit difficult because it's Very light weight.small. Storage capability. I'm just gonna keep it in my bug out bag right now fits and smaller spots. Okay if you really need it Comfort wise is a bit sketchy. Fire starter works really good. But as someone stated in their other review, the fire stick does not state. Put shakes around a lot. And at least the diamond filer for serrated edges. I guess kinds of work.
