I have been using this product for YEARS! A little info about me - I'm half Arabic and half French so, I have big thick curls (not tight kinky curls) and a thick mane of hair. My ex used to tell me I look like Tina Turner in Beyond Thunderdome when I didn't pamper my hair. So, I have thick curls and my hair is color treated (bleached to be precise). When my hair is to dry or to color treated, I lose my curl and it just falls strait. I love my curls so, I do what I can to take care of them. This stuff is the BOMB for rejuvenating and giving your hair some TLC. When I color treat my hair, I shampoo thoroughly to get all chemicals out. Sadly, shampooing strips all those beautiful oils from your hair so, naturally I break out my favorite conditioner and have a nice sit in the shower for a few minutes and let it soak in nice and deep. Rinse with cold / cool water to seal the follicles and towel dry. I then take my conditioner (small dollop of Mane N' Tale) and massage it through my hair (yes, I leave it in as a leave in conditioner, it adds A LOT of body) and then I take a dollop of Care Free Curl and massage through to ends. I do this a few times until I'm satisfied an even coat is applied. You don't need much of this, a little goes a long ways. I twist all my hair up in a bun on top of my head, place my hair dryer hood on and dry my hair on low heat while interchanging with the cool setting from time to time. I usually let it run for about 45 minutes and let that Care Free Curl really moisturize and deep penetrate with the heat. Remove the hood when completely dry, shake hair, finger comb and pop on a headband. My hair is so soft, bouncy curls and healthy looking (and feeling)! PROS: Works really well on caucasian curls Is excellent on color treated hair / or as a deep conditioning treatment for dry hair Isn't oily, filmy or weighs hair down Smells good but, dissipates when dry A little goes a long ways It's soothing on the scalp Doesn't strip your hair of natural oils CONS: I don't have a lifetime supply of this! It isn't free :(

This is my go to for wash and gos! I work lots of it through soaking wet hair, shake my fro a bit, and my curls clump nicely and stay defined and moist all day! The only downside is that with my hair texture (fine strands, ~3c & 4a in different areas) the curl clump definition doesn't last past day 1 although it stays soft and moisturized. It doesn't bother me; I re-moisturize with water only on days 2 and 3 and put it in a less-defined puff, still looking lovely. I've been using Carefree Curl Gold for wash and gos for 11 years!

Learn to use this & you will LOVE it. This is good for almost any type of natural hair. I have naturally curly dry hair that I just did a BIG chop on. I need the curl boost and the moisture. And don't worry about leaving behind big grease stains on furniture! Use this on WET hair or at least damp hair. Whenever I try using it on dry hair, it turns white and stays really wet/greasy. Wetting my hair - even with a spritzing bottle - is what makes this product magical. The wet hair absorbs the product and you end up with soft curls & ZERO crunch. You get the opposite of crunch: shiny & beautifully moisturized hair. Now if you use too much... watch out! Be prepared to either try sopping some of this out with a towel or just washing it out and starting over. Treat apply this the way you should cut hair - start small because you can always add more. The very best thing is that this does dry down a but. At first, it might feel too wet and untouchable but. if you didn't go overboard, it should start calming down after about 15 minutes. The longer your hair, the longer the dry down time. Once it does dry down, you will feel a VERY slight waxiness on your fingertips after touching your hair. It does not transfer to fabrics or paperwork once it is at this point. If you do have longer hair or like really elongated curls, keep in mind that this helps hair to curl. You might lose some elongation but you could probably stretch the curls with your hands or a comb. I alternate using this and Sof Sheen's spray. The spray has a lot of lanolin and I have to give my skin a break from it sometimes. Both of these are the best softening/moisturizing products but this one is for curl-boosting.

I have been using this product for a long time and love it. I found it by chance when I was in my early 20s. I have tried other similar and even more expensive products, but I always come back to this product. It does not weigh your hair down, and you do not need to use that much for it to work. It works great on my wavy somewhat curly natural hair. It is good for avoiding frizzy hair too. Overall, a great product. I am glad they have not discontinued it.
