I just finished my first use of my new Snow Joe Shovelution with spring assist handle, in 6 inches of wet heavy snow. This is a back saver ! I love this shovel !!! Its lightweight design with the added spring handle assist allowed me to avoid using so much of my low back muscles. I didn't have to bend over much at all, like I usually would. As for how it will hold up over time, that remains to be seen. The shovel is plastic, but seems sturdy. In this first use, its performance was solid, and it didn't bend. It has a good sharp blade on the edge of the shovel. It moves a decent amount of snow. As to its length and ease of use, I am a 5'2" female and I didn't have any trouble with the length of either handle. And it was so much easier heaving the snow aside than with a regular snow shovel. One caveat is that it shifts the effort to the upper body. My shoulders and arms are a little shaky, but not painful, although they might be sore tomorrow. But the key is my back doesn't hurt like it usually does. Excellent snow shovel ! Note: This is an unpaid, unsponsored review. And I did not get the shovel for free.

My spring handle broke off of my old one. I had that one at least 5 years and I shovel a lot in Wisconsin. I don't mind supporting a company with an innovative design. It really helps save the back vs the old straight handle style. The aluminum edge is kind of useless though. I think they should just do away with it. It lasts me less than a season. The rest of the shovel still seems to work ok, so after getting one warrantied, I just shoveled without it when the aluminum wore out.

I've had a Snow Joe shovel before, I used it for years and I loved the two handle design as it does indeed help a lot with picking up heavy snow. After I had to get rid of first Snow Joe, I purchased a new one. It's still the same great design, only problem was that the shovel itself cracked in half on the first use. I also lost the metal bar at the end of the shovel, fell right off the same day. I could understand if I used it during a monster storm and there was ice and everything but I used it on a soft 4" inches (it's not the size that matters) and it just broke. I'm pretty disappointed because I do like the shovel design, it's just very poorly made now I suppose. It's not like this was a cheap shovel in the first place, I would expect this kind of quality on a $15 shovel from Walgreens or something, but this was supposed to be my "Ferrari" of shovels and I ended up getting a "Datsun."

Snow Joe SJ-SHLV20 Shovelution Snow Shovel with Spring-Assist Handle, Heavy-Duty Shovel for Fast Snow Removal, 20 Inches, Blue....... I like the shovel, its light weight and pretty sturdy. I know it needs a metal edge but not a fan of the aluminum edge installed on this one and I've seen complaints on it from other reviewers. Aside from that it really does make shoveling easier and much nicer for your back. The spring loaded handle could have used a better hold down than the material one included , I'm sure it won't last for very long so I'll have to invent something of my own that will work and last, I already have a few ideas so it shouldn't be a problem. I think it's a decent shovel at a reasonable price.

I just used this shovel to remove snow in Long Island during/after the storm of 1/25/2026 and have to say that this is the greatest snow shovel that I have ever owned. I was so impressed by its design that I felt compelled to leave feedback, which I rarely do at Amazon. The spring-assist handle does a great job of reducing pressure on the lower back, the teeth on the cutting edge of the shovel glide smoothly over concrete/asphlat surfaces without excessive catching and the shovel itself is light-weight. It appears to be well-built so I expect it to last a while. Highly recommend this product. The design is not a gimmick.

Main complaint: retractible button pin that holds shovel end onto rod easily became dislodged/ broken because bent and permanently depressed such that the shovel end would swivel on the rod and make the shovel quite useless for tossing snow in any direction other than straight forward. I was able to fix it with a Leatherman by tugging the button pin into position but it looks like it will break again should anyone use the shovel with force. I may glue the shovel end to the rod later if this happens. For twice as much as any retail shovel doesn't seem worth that much. (Details of complaint/use/ break: When I first got it I admit, I was impressed and content before use. Package surprisingly small. Assembly easy. Looked like it would work. Apparently the design is not idiot-proof. Multiple joints that hold it together are points for breaking. My brother and brother-in-law used it for light snow and broke the lanyard that holds the floppy flimsy assist handle in place while not in use. Seems impossible, but I think he used it wrong and tried to shovel w lanyard as some sort of lever. No points lost for the product in that regard. 1point lost for brother-in-law. Apparently shovels are not idiot-proof anymore. On second use was heavy 9in snow. it was broken on second use. My brother used it in heavier snow for less than min and noticed it would swivel as described above. I can't tell if within that minute he used excessive force or dug it into my driveway or a block of ice, but it was definitely dysfunctional when he showed me. Because it is mutliple pieces anywhere that it joins it may break. The button pin is the weakest link.

After several heavy snows, it was time for a new, more back-friendly shovel, and I think this one will do the trick. The shovel itself seems to be sturdy and well made. The assembly was simple, but you do have to work at it and really muscle the two handle pieces into place to fit it together. But after that, you’re gold. I’m about 5’ 8” and it worked well for my height, requiring minimal bending of the back and knees to get the job done. I’ve only gotten the chance to test this out once so far, but it was about 6-8in of wet, heavy snow, so it was a good test. Normally, with the amount of sidewalk I have to clear, that would have completely wore me out and I would have been sore the next day. I won’t say that there was no impact, cause my back muscles were still growling at the end, but it did still make a world of difference. With this type of snow, I usually need some type of short break about halfway through, either to give my back or shoulder a rest, but this made it easy enough that I just plowed straight through in one shot. The fulcrum handle really makes a difference and reduces the strain on my back and shoulder a great deal. I would highly recommend this shovel.
