Installation wasn’t bad at all. Got it for a descent price. Build quality seems really good. I bought this to replace a Traveller 12,000# winch from Tractor Supply, and this is a beast compared to it! I use my winches for tree work, and I did a single line pull, and had a tree that was about 8 inches diameter snap off about a foot and a half from the ground without a struggle. I try to get roots and all but it didn’t fair so well that time. It seems to reel in at about twice the speed of the TS winch. Hopefully, with the forged gears this one holds up to my torture. Pretty good looking winch, with an illuminated bar on the front of the control box, along with a wireless/wired remote. The hook is pretty big also. The synthetic rope is very light and easy to work with. The cables are a little short, so if you have over about 6’ to go you’ll need to get different wires, but overall I love it so far! They could improve it with a led bar over the spool. Night time work you have to use the integrated flashlight to see the spool. ... show more

I was honestly quite surprised when I was able to order this winch here for cheaper than the actual smittybilt website AND it included everything. The controller is a bit bulky design but works just fine wireless or plugged in. I haven’t had to use it on any trails yet but I have played around with it. ... show more

Smittybilt, Why do you even bother with a phone number or email. No reply to emails. No one will answer the phone. After being on hold for over an hour the system finally comes on tells you they are having technical difficulties. I have being trying to contact for two weeks. the wireless remote on my new gen 3 winch does not work. Thankfully that the winch will work with the wire connected. On first use the latch on the hook fell apart. Due to the non existence customer service I would be hard pressed to ever buy anything with the smittybilt name on it again. Don't have high hopes for longevity of the winch after first use. ... show more

More solid than Badlands Apex. Don’t know if it’s worth 830 bucks but if you can get it for the same price or cheaper than Badlands Apex it’s much better built imo. Warranty is what won me over and smittybilt makes great products. 3rd winch from them and they haven’t let me down yet.

Very disappointed. electrical issue since I bought it and can not get a replacement or response from Smittybilt.

    • Absolute junk, called for warranty and told we were screwed.
We have a winch we used 1 time. Tried to pull a 300 pound boat dock up a 30 foot small incline and the motor fried. Two small men could have pulled this up the hill by hand. I called Smitty and they told me that I used the winch in an improper manner. That the winch is only warrantied for vehicle recovery and that means the vehicle it is mounted on, not pulling another vehicle out of the ditch even. It can't be used on a trailer, or to pull an object of any kind. The customer service person obviously was trained in his response. I will NEVER buy one of these again. Go with warn and they will warranty just about anything. ... show more
