This is a good machine. I like that the pulley ratio is 1 to 1. The steel weight plates slide easily and smoothly. It was easy to assemble. The instructions were very easy to follow. The price was very reasonable and the machine suits my needs perfectly. The smith bar glides smoothly on the guide rods. It is a strong frame. The only issues I have are that I can't install a regular olympic bar in the smith brackets and it really needs another weight storage bar on each side of the main frame. I would recommend this for a solid home gym piece.

Make sure to watch the video more so than following the paper instructions. Not everything correlated if you follow via paper instructions only. Videos were an amazing help! Once it was put together (about 8 hours), I absolutely love it! Solid piece of equipment, came with nice accessories, really boosted my workouts. Love love love it!

Bought because my wife wanted it. Her clinic at work got one and it took two teenagers 8 hours to assemble with the provided tools. I, however have power tools, sockets, and ratcheting open end wrenches and my 50 year old self put ours together by myself in about 2 hours. There are online videos to follow and I felt the process was fairly simple overall. She’s been using it for about 6 months now and loves it. It’s in a garage and gets daily use. The only complaint she has is about the adjustable cable assembly, but it’s because it’s a dual directional design, and even the highest end equipment has the same design. It functions as it’s designed to.

This is an excellent home smith machine gym. The overall quality is 7.5/10 vs. commercial gyms. It’s not quite as smooth and heavy duty, but exceeds home gym standards. Very impressive machine. I scheduled install through Thumbtack. The day of installation, the guys show up, look at all the pieces and said it would take them two days and twice the price. I decided to tackle it myself. I had unboxed everything to prep the area for the installers and I wasn’t prepared to leave it all there all weekend. So starting on Saturday afternoon, I built this beast by myself. I finished 85% by 10:00pm. So 8.5 hours. Sunday, started at 8:00 and finished by 10:00. So 10.5 total hours. It went together well with the help of the video. Super happy with how it went. The hardest part was the final piece. The pull up bar. Don’t tighten the vertical posts until you fit the bar in place. You’ll need a second person to get it in place. The pulleys are a little complicated, but not difficult. Very well engineered. The one major issue was the weight plates. I ordered steel. They come in four small boxes. So over 75lbs. per box. Two of four were damaged. Customer service sent out new boxes, but they should be separated into less weight per box with better padding. I couldn’t wait for new plates, so I spray painted the damaged plates and they turned out fine. Customer service gave me a small discount. Overall, extremely satisfied. Has all features of much more expensive weight lifting systems at a very reasonable cost. One last tip. They give you exactly the number of nuts, bolts and parts needed to complete install. Don’t lose any parts. The only extras were washers which I probably forgot to install somewhere.

I researched for about a month before finding the Donow line. I wanted the Smith machine and functional trainer in one, but I also didn't want to pay $3k if I didn't have to. It is made of 16 gauge steel from what I can tell, but me and my girlfriend are the only ones who use it, so this isn't an issue for us. 11 or 12 gauge may be better, but we aren't smashing the barbell into the front of the cage - no issue for us. It took me probably 5-6 hours one Friday to put it together, as it arrived in 8 boxes. The directions were pretty clear, and I had power drill allen wrenches ready that saved me a bunch of hassle. I took my time and got most of it correct on the first try. I didn't require any help, but I'm also a pretty burly 6 foot tall man who's handy. One thing to ensure is that you are placing it where you want it the first time, with room to work off to the side if you are employing the landmine attachment. I put it in my garage second bay in the center with the back of it facing the long wall. This thing is solid, as I can do pullups on it, and nothing moves. The cables, despite plastic pulleys, are smooth and don't grab. I wanted the 1:1 option provided with the DN-DS938T+WB option, as well as the steel weight stacks. I have been using it for just over two months now, and I work out on it at least 4-5 times a week. I have since ordered a modified landmine attachment that sits on the bottom of the smith machine support to get a better angle for landmine squats. I have also been able to add horns on the back of the weight stack to add plates for when I max a single weight stack on lat pulldowns. In short, for the price I paid, I can find nothing wrong with this machine, and it is exactly what I needed to ditch the $75/month gym membership. I love that I am still discovered exercises I can do with it also.

I couldn’t be more satisfied with our steel plate DONOW smith machine! It arrived late in the afternoon and my wife and I took our time assembling it, while following along the 20 minute video. It was completed by the next morning. The quality of every piece is excellent and it arrived in perfect condition due to the outstanding packaging. The cable system is super smooth and quiet. I highly recommend placing it on top of a good quality 3/4 inch mat, if you have a finished floor. I look forward to many years of fun and productive workouts.
