After ordering my first set of smartwings shades, I was impressed with the product and the ease of installation and setup with Alexa and home automation system. After about a month of use, one of the four blinds I had ordered suddenly quit working. After charging the battery again from the initial charge, it started working again but to my disappointment only for a day. I contacted customer service, they sent me a few links for videos of trouble shooting, none of which fixed the problem. They ordered me a replacement motor and battery and shipped it to me and sent me a video of how to change the motor out. Problem solved. Accounting for the time difference they responded to my questions and concerns immediately and solved my problem with no hassle or resistance. With my experience with smartwings, when it was time to upgrade my shades in our bedroom I knew exactly where I was going to order them from. This time changing to light blocking shades and a different color. Ordering was convenient and easy with a follow up email to confirm how I had taken my measurements for the width of the windows. After expected amount of time for shipping I received my second order of shades, however during the unpacking of the shades I noticed they were marked with an unusual length dimension, one I know I didn’t enter on my order. However once your order is placed unless you screenshot your order before finalizing you can not go back and see what you input during the order process. I preceded to install the new blinds and as I ran them down to confirm the fit, they stopped about 2 inches short of the bottom of the window. I again sent a message to smartwings customer service along with pictures showing the installation and the gap remaining. They sent me another link to a video to adjust the limit of the motor in the down position. However after fully extended to the limit of the material there was still a gap, letting light in defeating the blackout shade purpose. I sent those pictures along with the length that I believe I had ordered. The next morning I received a message letting me know they had reordered my shade materials and that I should see a tracking number for shipping soon. The day after that I received the tracking number. Again after a short time waiting on production and shipping I received three new shades the length I needed and installed them simply following the video. They are now exactly what I needed and wanted. While no company is perfect Smartwings worked diligently to make sure my issues were resolved and that I was happy with my shades. EDIT: After writing a review with some complaints, the seller contacted me to offer a refund if I altered my review, so I am doing so. I do appreciate that they cared enough to do this. They mentioned that the "Cassette with Fabric Insert" version of the "Valance Cover" would block more light at the top of the blinds, and they said they're developing new side light blockers but these aren't yet ready. Original review: I bought these to block sunlight but when installed with manufacturer-provided side light blockers, they still let through way too much light, especially along the top. I added a board along the bottom which helps, but not enough. Side light blockers cost $40 but they're just plastic and they're translucent so let some light through regardless. They don't give you long enough ones to reach from the bottom of the window to the top, so I had to add a board to cover the bottom where the light blockers end and also block light coming in through gaps at the bottom. If you order outside mount at least 3 inches larger than the window/door on all sides, I do recommend these. The only problem I've had is one of the blinds forgot its center (favorite) position after about a week and had to be reprogrammed. It hasn't happened again in about a month. ... show more

    • Unstable with old motor Apple HomeKit // Stable with the new motor

//Review update August 7th from 2 stars to 5 stars: After posting the bad review and explaining the issue, the customer service team reached out to me and sent a new motor to replace the old one. After replacing the motor, the Apple HomeKit works without issues (so far). Assuming that from now on ALL shades are sent out with the new/upgraded motor and the stability will not change - I can fully recommend these shades! I decided to buy this model ONLY because of high rating and HomeKit connectivity. The control through Siri/HomeKit was for me the most important feature for the blinds I was looking for. And this is exactly where this model fails. It works only 60-80% of the time. Meaning that 2-4 times out of 10, the blinds will not respond to HomeKit commands because "connection lost". Sometimes only one blind responds, the other doesn't. I'm forced to find the remote control... again, which completely defeats the purpose of this purchase for me. And yes, I have re-installed and re-paired the blind now 3 times following instructions of SmartWings customer support. Besides that, if you plan to install 2 blinds in a row next to each other, there will be a 2-3 inch gap, due to design of the blinds. It is unavoidable with this model. The issue is obviously that sunlight will go straight through this 2-3 inch gap and if positioned unlucky, it will shine in your face. Which also kind of defeats the purpose of these blinds.. The solar battery is flawless though. Much more convenient than the standard option with cable. The fact that the blinds work with the remote control and they look ok, doesn't make it worse for to go through all the painful process of returning these and waiting another 3 weeks for new ones... so I will keep it. But I will NOT recommend it to anyone - avoid this product, if HomeKit control is important for you. ... show more
