My old thermostat had batteries, so I knew I was in for the special install. That involves using a hockey-puck shaped hunk of white plastic with terminals for in and out of the furnace. I ended up calling a pro, who discovered that a c-wire ran to the thermostat and was simply disconnected at the furnace. Connect it back up and voilà easy installation. Still couldn't have done it myself, even having dodged the hockey puck. Once installed, the thermostat is almost great. The asterisk is for scheduling. It is very cumbersome to go through a seven day schedule one day at a time (no way to index to Thursday for example). Instead, set up and use the mobile app recommended in the instructions. It was easy to install, and made working with the schedule much easier. We're a week in and nothing but smooth operation. I am happy with this purchase! ... show more

    • Great thermostat. Requires good airflow to read temperature correctly.

This thermostat would not read temperature accurately or change, letting the HVAC run much longer than it needed to. If we set it for 72 it would cool to 67 before it registered 72 and cut off. This was installed next to the return. It should have worked as did other thermostats. After placing a small fan to circulate air toward the thermostat it started monitoring temp in real time perfectly. The actual temp sensor must be insulated and next to an internal heat source? We will use a fan until we can figure out why this is happening. ... show more
