My fiancé and I purchased this for our townehome. We wanted a smart thermostat that had Apple Homekit certification and we wanted a unit to help us reduce out heating and cooling expenses. I purchased the unit knowing that knowing that we had a C-wire installed on our old thermostat. What I didn't anticipate was that the C-wire was a placeholder, and wasn't live. I had to connect it to our furnace in order for the ecobee to work. I called ecobee's tech support and the guy who helped me install the unit talked me through hooking up the C-wire to the furnace. He also patiently waited as I ran up and down the stairs grabbing miscellaneous tools to get the job done right. I'm very impressed with his help. The tech support agent also patiently waited for the unit to startup the first time. It was great! I will only buy ecobee smart detectors after this experience. I highly recommend it. My only complaint is that the temperature control on the iPhone app is really hard to work. You have to slide it up or down, but you can't input the value. This is a software issue, so I'm sure a fix is in the works. ... show more

    • Easiest installation imaginable
I bought this item renewed and it came in a damaged box with everything inside in perfect condition! Install was a breeze even hooking up the dehumidifier. I had to use the wall plate to hide the holes from the last thermostat but the smart features are incredible I have it set on a 3 stage schedule for each day and can even set it on vacation mode to keep it at any temp you want without a worry while away. The sensors though, will make this your favorite setup the included sensor in the fittest room from your thermostat which in my case is the office and it will prioritize cooling in that room when it detects motion. You can even out door sensors or window sensors to automatically pause your thermostat when you open either. Get it love it forget about the rest. ... show more

We purchased this for an older house we lived in. It was so easy to install and use. I had to call tech support (which if I had more patience I would not have has to, my own fault), and they walked me through my confusion. We moved and left it in the old house, now I want to get 2 for the new house. A lot simpler to use than some of the other brands. ... show more

    • A real money saver.
This is the third unit that I have purchased. In each case the cost of heating and cooling my home has dropped dramatically. My first unit went into my large family home and the multiple sensors really helped balancing out the comfort in my home. The second went into my daughter's home and again it really balanced out the comfort in the home. The third went into a smaller second home. Because of its smaller size only two sensors were needed. The reduction of energy usage in each case easily paid for the unit within three months. Great product. ... show more

    • Keeps losing configuration
The Android control app keeps losing my configuration. It's literally flipping back and forth (every minute or so) on the main screen between "Welcome Home - add a device", to my actual configuration. This also happened when I first installed it, and then it was seemingly fine for a couple months, and now it's not working correctly. When it's not losing stuff, it seems to work, but since you have to have an app to control it, it's not any good if the app doesn't work. Update as of Dec 2021: Alexa/thermostat integration just completely stopped working out of the blue. It was fine at 6am and at 10am Alexa claimed it couldn't reach the device, despite being on the same network and the thermostat being fully functional and controllable via the Android app. The ecobee "support" site is effectively worthless for solving problems and it's not clear how to get support, or even if any support is available. Ordered the renewed thermostat. Used for a couple weeks but couldn’t get the voice feature to work. Later realized that this is the “ecobee 3 lite” that had been put into the ecobee smart thermostat with voice box. They look nearly the same so it’s an easy scam. I returned it once I had a new one installed. Check your device if you order this, it should have a 4th icon that is a microphone for the voice feature. It should also have speaker holes on the back of the device. ... show more
