When I went to Texas to photograph the eclipse this spring I had a lot of trouble seeing the LCD screen on the back of my Olympus OM-1. Someone next to me had one of these little buggers and it really worked to cut down on the glare, making it easier to frame the sun. A few weeks ago I was trying to shoot a waterfall in full sunlight using a 10-stop ND filter and had the same problem. So I decided to get one of these to see how it works. I use this on a Sony FX30 which doesn't have a viewfinder. It slides onto the LCD screen easily and folds up small in my bag. It works well when the LCD is large enough to see the image I want to capture and there is not too much glare from all directions. It's easier than bolting on an external monitor.     • Critical in the sun!
You absolutely need this if you are not using a larger external monitor. This really helps beat the sun and allow you to feel confident in your exposures when using the onboard monitor. Just be careful not to lose it. Ask me how I know how easy that is.

    • Hard to store
I haven't used this yet but am assuming it will help as it is the same thing you see on any outdoor movie set. It is easy to configure, install on, and remove from the Sony ZV-1. The main reason I haven't used it yet is that it is a pain in the neck. I can't leave it installed on my ZV-1 and close the screen with the glass inside against the camera body. And when it is off the camera and folded up it is too cumbersome to get into a pants pocked from where it can be quickly deployed. I got the ZV-1 because it is pocketable and having this other thing that is not pocketable doesn't make sense for my use case. Maybe if I were a vlogger and needed to also carry a tripod, and a light panel, and a microphone, carrying this display Sun screen wouldn't be an issue.     • Awkward but useful
Once again, SmallRig provides a useful accessory for my Sony A7Cii. Shooting in bright sunlight, it isn't always practal to utilize the standard viewfinder as opposed to the larger screen. (My bifocals make it difficult to see correctly if I don't remove them). Enter the Small Rig sunhood. Made of a sturdy leather, it quickly folds into shape and is secured over your screen by a velcro attachment. A nearly perfect fit - more on that in a moment, it provides ample shade for you to compose your picture. When not needed it folds flat to easily store with your other gear until called upon. But again there are tradeoffs. While it does fit well, it also requires that you have the screen open as it isn't thin enough to allow you to close the flap. And the attachment is loose enough to slide off if your not paying attention. You'll almost want an anchor to attach it to your camera to prevent droping it. Verdict - when it works, it's a good option. But it may be easier to just open and angle the screen to offset any glare or just use the standard viewfinder. ... show more

    • Use it for every wedding i shoot
I use mine on every single wedding i shoot. It works great at blocking the sun and also keeping guests from trying to hover over my shoulder to see what i'm shooting. It slips on and off in 1 second. Very convenient
