As we've come to expect from SmallRig products, this is a solidly built unit that won't break the bank, especially if you're just getting starting in DSLR filmmaking or other online content that needs a professional look. If you know a little about camera rigs, you won't have any trouble figuring out how to install it, and if you're just starting out, there are a ton of online videos that can walk you through setup and use. As I said, the build is solid, the movement is smooth, and the built-in stops make it easy to set your in and out locking markers, which will be super helpful especially if you're filming moving subjects. You can also use the metal marking disks with a grease pencil to keep manual marks when you need them. The size is compact enough that the mechanisms won't be in your way, but still solid enough to get the job done. We really like that you can use friction or gear drive with this unit, and switching between them is a breeze. Overall, this is a solid little unit and a great starting point if you're just getting into higher end content. It also offers great value for the price, especially when you consider similar units can be 5X the cost (or more) without adding much in features or durability.

I have never used a device like this before, and I'm amazed at how I managed without it all these years. It's a great tool! Although I don't use it for focus pulling, I use it on the zoom ring of my lens, providing me with buttery smooth zooms while shooting video on my DSLR. The zoom ring on my 15-35mm EF lens is a little stiff, as it is not a Cine lens.

I am not a video shooter, and try to use this not for manual focusing but for manual zoom for my Sony A7IV. My Sony PZ lens have a motorized zoom which is good, but does not have the speed that I need. This one solve the issue. With a little bit of trial and error, I finally can zoom with the speed I in a stable way. I build my cage with all SmallRig item and this one fit the system nicely. Still need more practice but I am happy with the result so far. It is worth the $99.99 in my opinion

We are really impressed with this SmallRig F50 Follow Focus. Straight away, you can feel the high quality – it's sturdy, well-built, and feels very comfortable in hand. The silicone handwheel has a nice soft texture that provides excellent grip, and the overall operation is incredibly smooth. Aesthetically, the color and design match our Canon R5 Mark II setup beautifully, especially fitting perfectly and looking great alongside our SmallRig Black Mamba cage. In use, the silicone drive gear gripped the focus ring on our Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L lens very well, allowing for smooth and precise focus pulls with minimal backlash. Features like the easily adjustable damping lever and the quick-set A/B hard stops add a professional touch, offering customizable feel and repeatable focus points. It mounts solidly via the included 15mm rod and clamp system, providing a reliable connection for video work. Overall, this is a fantastic follow focus unit that combines excellent build quality, comfortable ergonomics, and smooth, reliable performance. We highly recommend it, especially for users with similar camera/cage setups looking for a high-quality, functional follow focus.

It’s a very nice follow focus device. It’s a bit large for carrying around, but it’s not so large that you wouldn’t want to use it, or at least not for the special purpose you’d buy it for. It works great. It’s a little complicated to set up and use. I had to watch a video to figure it all out. But once you have it going, it makes sense. And it makes focusing while moving the camera so smooth and easy. The device feels well made and very high quality. It’s a great piece of specialist photography tech.

This is my first foray into using a follow focus so I’m not an expert and have minimal experience with competing models. This one is built really well and everything feels very premium. It comes with everything you need to mount it to your camera cage and get it aligned. If you’re like me and new to using this, I’d highly recommend hopping on YouTube and watching some videos to get familiar with it. In my brief time with it I’ve found it to work very well—far better than my videographer skills. But I’m excited to learn and improve and use this tool to hopefully improve my art and expand my skill set.

I’ve been wanting one of these for a while but never had the spare cash to buy one. I don’t shoot as much video as I used to, so it didn’t seem economically viable. But I couldn’t pass on it as a free Vines product. In the box was everything I needed to install onto my camera. But that wasn’t readily apparent. The single rod clamp and snap-on gear ring were already attached to the Follow Focus F50. The next thing I noticed was that the User Manual uses a very tiny font that I could not read. I had to use my phone’s camera which kept going in and out of focus making reading the instructions quite difficult and time consuming. I wish companies would invest an extra penny or two to print readable manuals. Once I was able to read the manual and begin the assembly, everything came to a screeching halt. It appears that I cannot attach this to my camera (Canon 6D) without purchasing a cage. It looks like SmallRig makes one that will fit, but it seems to be out of stock on Amazon. There is another brand that might fit, but it looks like a purchase for some other day. So, this review is going to have to wait. The only other thing I can say at the moment is that this appears to be good quality and I have never had a problem with any SmallRig product (I own several). I’ll give it 3 stars for now based on the look and feel. I will revisit my rating if I ever get to install it onto the camera.
