  • A perfect storm of everything that's just right for my business. A perfect storm of everything that's just right for my business.
Style: Tripod Kit
There's so many amazing videos and reviews of this tripod so I'll keep it short from a "How has it helped my video business" perspective. I was using an 15 year old Manfrotto tripod photo legs with a fluid head mounted on top. This upgrade wasn't because it was needed, but more a curiousity of what a proper video tripod would bring (the video company I contract for doesn't need the latest tripods as 50%+ of our work is Gimbals). The SmallRig Freeblazer looked to be a great upgrade because of functionality and price. After buying it and testing it out for several months, the Freeblazer has pretty much it's been the perfect storm in every possible upgrade a tripod user would want. But instead of a cat 5 hurricane in price like some video tripods, it's a been a cat 1 that packs a really hearty punch. I enjoy everything about this tripod. The material its made of, the fluidity, the small controls to tune things, and also the fact I can take my camera off the gimbal and put it right on this. There's a lot of small quality of life stuff that makes this tripod work very well. If there's anything to knock a few points off, it's the plastic used for the locking mechanism, it feels a little cheap/weak in comparison to the rest of the tripod. I'm sure this is one of the ways SmallRig can lower the price, but it feels like it's a problem for future me when it either breaks, or loosens. Though it's such a high composite material there's a chance there will be no issues. It's one of those Cliche "I wish I done it sooner" moments, but the reality is it wasn't really possible. This is a newer product, more recently released, and most of the issues have been resolved. It feels like waiting actually paid off because now we get a tripod that does what $1500 tripod does at 20% the cost. This thing has been amazing, and I'm super happy it's been purchased. It's been a killer business purchase and has already done over 30 events without hitch or issues. ... show more

  • Best one for the money!
Style: Tripod Kit
This is a big upgrade for me compared to my older Ulanzi video tripod. I used to have a few older tripods from the 90s and 00’s used for photography but I got this tripod for my fx3 I use for YouTube. Compared to my old photography tripods, this feels insanely professional in terms of quality. I think it’s even built better and has better features than an older $500 ifootage tripod. I looked at tons of tripods while shopping equipment for my studio and this seems, by far, the absolute best for the money. I don’t plan on taking it out of the studio but this is amazingly lightweight for it’s large size and would work phenomenally well for semiprofessional videographers who need something sturdy but lightweight enough to take with them on shoots. ... show more

  • As Good As Manfrotto and for a Better Price
Style: Tripod Kit
Very sturdy and well built tripod. The price is incredible for what you get and is as good as Manfrotto tripods. The fluid head is very smooth and setting up the legs are a lot quicker with only one latch on each leg. It is also very light and comes in a nice carrying case.

  • As tall as a sactler hotpod. One lever full extension. As tall as a sactler hotpod. One lever full extension.
Style: Tripod Kit
As high as a sactler hotpod when fully extended. Light enough to use as a monopod during marches etc. Entire leg extension operates from one lever- love that. Gets a lot of attention from other camera operators when I flip the lever and it snaps into full extension. Very smooth pan and tilt. Handle has a screw on extension which I have lost several times. Had to order a new one cause last time I didn’t find it. That would be better with a lever type tightener like where the handle meets the tripod. Also the cross bar makes a great place to set your phone while shooting. I love this tripod. Great price too! ... show more

  • Update: issue Fixed, the tripod works flawlessly
Style: Tripod Kit
The legs are great. The head had an issue when it panned but SmallRig support reached out to me and fixed the issue. The tripod is obviously no high end video tripod but it’s great for weddings when I need a light weight tripod and I use long lenses on it. You know what you’re getting in this price range, it’s no Miller or Sachtler. But when it comes to affordable tripods for cheaper jobs, this is perfect. ... show more

  • It is OK. The head is extremely subpar though.
Style: Tripod Kit
I guess this is a good deal for carbon fiber sticks but the head is just almost worthless. Well I say it’s worthless…If you’re going to make any movements…if you’re just going to keep it stationary it’s fine. the quick release levers are extremely tight and kind of small to get to. Put it like this I ended up purchasing the Flowtech with a Aktiv 8 head, for $4000 over this tripod and that was quite an investment. Of course I’m not comparing that two but I really wanted this tripod to work out and if it would have I never would’ve spent that much money on another one. This is not an alternative for the Flowtech. ... show more

  • Think surveying tripod
Style: Tripod Kit
This tripod is lite, like a 25ld dumbbell is "lite". Unless you are shooting with an older 400/2.8 or other massive lens, this tripod is way overweight for most modern camera setups. If you are using a rig with focus pull and a matt box and V mount battery with your Red cinema camera, this tripod is way too big. The single throw locks are tough to open and close, I would not mind 2 conventional locks per leg with easier to open/close mechanisms. The mounting plate is a bit of a hassle and you really need to be careful locking it securely as the "safety" feature is not as intuitive as a Bogen system. I purchased as a replacement for a gimbal mount for birding, and this looks to work well for that, the Sony 200-600 looks like toy on this tripod though, to give a sense of scale. Will need the Sony tripod controller to mount on the handle too, if you want to easily control the camera with the fluid head in use to track subjects. This reminds me of a surveyor tripod I used for 8x10 field camera use years ago. Sturdy but heavy, may want a golf bag with wheels for this one! ... show more
