I have been very skeptical about buying a Record stabilizer. But I think I read enough good feedback to try one out. So I know this Hudson hi-fi place is a really good company, I have purchased other products from them and I took a couple of my records that are a little warped, but still play. And they sounded pretty decent. And it was really nice to also watch them play less warped, which is what the point of the stabilizer is I would’ve imagine. Anyway, I’m a big fan of this. It’s strong and sturdy. The only downfall for some people that play their records with the dust cover on (I don’t personally do that), it is too tall to put the top of the cover on. So this record stabilizer will not work for you if that is the case. Overall, I’m very happy with this product and I’m happy that Hudson hi-fi makes great products. Highly recommended!

I have long been familiar with the use of record weights or clamps to enhance the physical coupling between the LP and the turntable platter during playback. After purchasing a Mobile Fidelity UltraDeck, I was considering the use of a record weight with the unit when I noticed that the manufacturer offered a turntable weight for $200! Although I'll admit that some level of engineering was required in its design (mostly, to determine the optimal weight), but in my opinion, $200 was just an audiophile-oriented rip off for a chunk of machined metal. I found that the MoFi (standard) Record Weight, 'engineered for use with the turntable,' weighs 13 oz., and subsequently discovered the Hudson "Big Ben" Record Weight, which also weighs in at 13 oz., but whose cost was under 30 bucks, not 200, like the MoFi model! I purchased the Big Ben and immediately noticed a stark sonic improvement! The bass is much more well-defined, and the music sounds much better overall. Physically speaking, the Big Ben has a passing resemblance to its overpriced (in my opinion) competitor, with the bottom of the Big Ben fitted with a faux, leather pad to avoid damaging the record label, fitting comfortably over the spindle of my turntable. It also looks good. Although I cannot close the dust cover of my turntable during LP playback, due to the additional height of the weight, many 'purist' turntables' dust covers lift off (rather than being hinged), making the playing of records impossible with it on (in those cases), along with the fact that many audiophiles prefer the sound with the dust cover off. Overall, this weight looks and works great! Only you (and perhaps your sharp-eyed, audiophile buddies, noticing the absence of the trademark on the product) will know the difference between it and its overpriced competition.

This is a great vinyl weight. Its heavy and well made. I have a pro-ject and with my particular model, the Debut this weight is the perfect size between the platter and the dust cover. What I mean by that is you can lower the dust cover and it fits like a glove, but if you were to then turn the player on its gonna rub and scratch. It did end up returning mine for this reason, but it was not for lack of quality or anything like that. It just didnt fit my setup. If you dont use the dust cover or dont mind taking it off, or leaving it up, when you play a record this is not a bad way to go.

My records sound great with this weight stabilizer! But wait, my records sound great before I used the stabilizer! Whether this device makes a difference I'm not for sure but it looks cool and yes it does seem to tighten things up sonically.... or does it?

I BOUGHT THIS “ BIG BEN “ LP WEIGHT TO HELP WITH SOME OLDER LP’S THAT HAVE A SLIGHT WARP TO THEM! THIS WEIGHT FIT ON THE PLATTER WITH COMFORT AND THE PERFORMANCE WAS ABLE TO STABILIZE THE LP AND ENRICH THE SOUND NOW THAT IT SIT SOLID AGAINST MY HUDSON HI-FI ACRYLIC PLATTER!! I HAVE YET TO HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH MY HUDSON HO - FI PRODUCTS!! AND THE VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY TO ENRICH SOUNDS FROM SLIGHTLY WARP OLDER LP’S IT IS WORTH THE COST!!

I normally do not take the time to write reviews. Giving stars will generally get the point across. But, this weight stabalizer is exceptional in the sense that it actually makes a very noticeable difference. And fits so perfectly. Believe it or not it even adds some bass to the records. The lid clears it by like a couple mm's on the model I own. It looks so good too. Like it has always been there. As if it was specifically made for my particular turntable. I'm ashamed to say I had no idea there even was a such thing until recently. I'd been getting other accessories like cleaning and anti static remedies, stuff like that. Basically anything I can do in order to get the absolute best sound that I possibly can. Anyhow, the point being I am beyond happy with my purchase. It also comes in a really nice box to that could be used to give one as a gift, which is precisely what I think I will do for my friends birthday coming up. With that all said, 5 stars down the line! Thanks!

So I’ll be honest I was a bit reluctant to invest in a weight/stabilizer, but boy am I glad I went with the Big Ben! The only thing I regret here is not getting to this sooner. The difference is night and day, as it really does tighten up the soundstage and harmonics drastically. I’ve taken the Big Ben as a non-negotiable for every spin of every record from here on out. The weight of the Big Ben is just perfect. I’ve nothing to compare it to - as this is my first and only record weight/stabilizer but after doing a bit of research - I don’t believe anything lighter than this would get the job done as accurately. That said - it does NOT weigh down or bottom out my platter. Using a vintage table and the lid closes (I know that was a sticking point for some, though I never close the lid anyway) and it fits perfect on the spindle. No wiggle room but not a super tight fit either. The leather bottom pad is a nice touch, assuring it won’t damage the center labels of my LPs. Handy padded reusable box to keep the weight stored away when not in use...but be sure to keep it close by; you’ll be using your Big Ben every time!
