  • just trying to beat my friend who is VERY good at golf. just trying to beat my friend who is VERY good at golf.
Where do I start with this thing... The price: so, if you are a golfers wife and you are looking at this as a birthday or gift idea you might be thinking WOW at the price but in terms of features and data you are getting an amazing deal and if the aforementioned is fact then your golfer is serious and must love playing or you would not have made it this far. The SKYTRAK ST MAX Launch Monitor offer more than you'd expect at this price point in comparison to other brands. It offers a free 14 day subscription to skytrak software offering courses etc to get you started along with a very in depth app that will give your golfer everything they need to move from moderate to advance if they are consistent and motivated. The tools offered will allow someone who feels trapped at a certain level the confidence to move up and improve. As far as the hardware you all you will need is a good wifi connection and a laptop and I suggest using your phone as well. Grab your favorite bag of sticks and follow the instructions provided. Setup is relatively easy and the courses provide in depth instruction. The cell phone app alone is extraordinarily insightful and data rich. OK, let's face reality: it's not perfect. I had a few no reads and the screen did freeze once but that could have (maybe?) been because of our poor internet connection or, who knows. I try to stay positive. uses Doppler technology, combined with camera that seems to work extremely well at capturing our every swing. To use this setup efficiently you'll need about 10' x 10' (ish) of space - you'll want to swing as you naturally do. Don't lie to the machine - it is not stupid. The built quality seems excellent and heavy duty and if you decide to take it with you to your next training session is seems very portable though I have not moved it from my garage. If I could offer advice: check your space if you are going to use it indoors. You do not want to end up needing a dry wall guy's number or have to get the guys from lowe’s out to replace a lighting fixture or ceiling fan. I could go on and on but hey, I’m not on the clock or trying to write a new book here – just trying to beat my friend who is VERY good at golf. ... show more

  • Consistent Outdoor Reads - Easy Setup - Pricey Subscriptions Consistent Outdoor Reads - Easy Setup - Pricey Subscriptions
My golf game usually involves more time looking for balls in the woods than actually being on the fairway, so I set up a hitting area in the backyard. Since my sim is tucked under the porch, it always has enough shade to keep the sensors happy without the sun washing everything out. Ease of Setup: This is essentially a plug-and-play operation, even in an outdoor setting. It was easy to connect it to my Wi-Fi from the porch and I was hitting shots into my net within minutes. It is a very user-friendly experience, and the red laser dot is easy to see on my mat since it is shielded from direct sunlight. Function: The data is top-tier and gives me everything I need to see why my slice is so consistent. I mostly run it on the internal battery, which holds a solid charge for a full session, though I keep the USB-C cable handy for longer weekend grinds. It handles the covered porch environment perfectly and the portability makes it easy to bring inside when I am done. Reliability: I haven't had many issues with "no-reads," which is usually the biggest headache with camera-based systems outside. The shade from the porch provides the consistent lighting this thing needs to track the ball accurately. It picks up the shot quickly and the delay between the hit and the screen is minimal. Value: While the hardware itself is excellent, the ongoing cost is the one bitter pill to swallow. The subscription plans are pretty expensive if you want to unlock the full potential and play actual courses. It is the Cadillac of launch monitors for a backyard or porch setup, but be prepared for the yearly subscription fees to keep it fully functional. Great hardware performance and portability, but the high-cost software plans definitely eat into the long-term value. FYI The first accessory I bought was the protective cage. I can shank with the best of them. ... show more

  • Great Machine just wish the hitting zone was larger like other machines
I wish that Skytrak would make the hitting area larger. It took a while to figure out how to hit under 90 yards without having a million "No Reads" (2 inches to the left of the red dot) and as well as the Teeing Off using 25MM rubber tees (2 inches to the right of the red dot). I found that the best balls to use for great metrics and reads is the "Taylor Made T5X Stripes". ... show more

  • OMG So good TECH!
This is the best golf sim I have ever owned. It's the top of the model when it comes to sims and it does not disappoint!! I put this together with an enclosure and wow, I now have Top Golf right in my basement. It takes up a bit of room, 8x10, but it's so worth it when I can play at just about any course I want! It's beautiful. The two Doppler radar picks up your swing and direction and speed of the ball to simulate it properly. This is my first golf sim so I can't really compare it to anything else but Top Golf. IMO, this is WAY bettter, it's at home. Highly recommended ... show more

  • super cool
This is a really cool launch monitor. It has a lot of really cool features. There are various ways to connect to wifi. It sets up really easy. The range is really cool with lots of options and information. You can do speed training, with useful information like tour average, as well as ton of diagnostics. You can set up goals with this feature. It offers a free 14 day subscription to skytrak software offering courses etc. It helps you determine clubs. There are dual USB ports, for power and connection to a computer. It uses doppler technology, combined with camera tech to give you accurate flight pattern etc. It can be used outside as well as inside. The price of $2495 (day of review) is fair considering the quality, accuracy, and versatility of this simulator. ... show more

  • Device lasted less than a few weeks and horrible customer service
Received my SkyTrak ST MAX on April 1st. Within 19 days the unit developed a hardware defect, freezing mid-session and rattling internally. I called support and the first rep was helpful and told me a replacement would be arranged. After hearing nothing for several hours I called back and reached a different rep who told me it would be weeks before I received a new unit and that they would repair it rather than replace it. When I expressed frustration at a nearly $3,000 device failing in under 3 weeks, and long lead time to get a new one, he told me "at least you didn't pay $100k for a Trackman." He then suggested I just take a refund if I wasn't happy, which I did. The return process has been slow, disorganized, and required multiple follow up calls and emails to get basic next steps. The RMA form they sent defaulted to "Repair" despite my refund request. The product itself worked well the 19 days I had it. The customer service experience however was bad enough that I am not rebuying and will be going a different direction. ... show more

  • Unit freezes mid round
Unit constantly misses shots in USB mode. It freezes completely and must be powered off to reset. This is very frustrating in the middle of a round.

  • Great for practice. Love the data. Full simulation features are tons of fun. Great for practice. Love the data. Full simulation features are tons of fun.
I really started playing golf early in 2025 and have quickly gotten addicted. Close to breaking 100 now after my first year and wanted to continue practicing over the winter. Skytrak products are known to be very accurate and quality devices. I haven't seen anything that would make me think otherwise. The new Skytrak Max is excellent. All the features of the Skytrak+ with more training tools, which is what I need as a beginner (but improving fast) golfer. I built my setup in my garage and it has been great. I have low ceilings so can't take full swings with most clubs, but getting in the reps is the most important thing. I'm running Skytrak's software off a Macbook Pro M2 with a damaged screen and using an old Epson projector. Stretched a screen across my garage door, and am currently hitting hard foam balls from Almost Golf Balls. One sticking point is the hard-wired USB connection. I couldn't get it to work with my Macbook at all. I tried all of the troubleshooting tips, it just never worked. In Wifi-direct mode, it connected quickly and worked great - the main issue with that is you're not connected to the internet when in wifi-direct mode, thus can't download any courses. Also you can't even access that section of the main menu when not connected to the Skytrak unit, so you can't even go into the course selection to download them. Very frustrating. The only way to get everything to work is to connect to the device in wifi-direct mode, then set it up on your home network in network mode. For me, this worked well as my garage has good wifi, but I can see this being an issue for others. Driving range is great. I hit it left, ball goes left. Chunk it, yardages suffer. My bad slice is ever in play and pretty accurately displayed when I don't close the club face. Even with the foam balls, launch angles seem to be pretty accurate. Distances definitely are off with the balls being hard foam, but all the distance numbers are very consistant club to club. The course simulator is a lot of fun. Slightly difficult to play since I can't swing full and can't hit my longer clubs like Driver or 3 wood, but gives me a lot to work towards as I've only played 4 18 hole rounds and 3 9 hole rounds this past year. The subscritpion is pretty expensive. I chose the core sub with trackman courses and although similarly priced across the spectrum with other simulators/launch monitors, I do wish they had some built in courses for free for at the most basic subscription level at half the cost (or no cost if you don't use any subscription). Completely understand the business model, just wish it was less! Overall, very happy with the Skytrak. I plan to use it in the garage all winter, and move it outside so I can hit all clubs with real balls. Also plan on using it at the range for better data so I can gradually improve for the future. ... show more
