Why did you pick this product vs others?: I picked this model because I already had a Skil 40V chain saw, and leaf blower. All the tools have interchangeable batteries, so I can use up one battery, and just replace it with a different charged one. However, I really wish Skil would sell tool-only since now I'm accumulating batteries and chargers. The trimmer makes short work of even overgrown vegetation. In about an hour, I was able to cut a forsythia back 2 - 3 feet along a 15' front without needing to recharge the battery. Spent more time bagging the clippings than cutting. Although the manual says that it will handle limbs up to 3/4", I find that about 1/2" is about as thick as I want to go with this, at least with a forsythia. With the 2.5 A-h battery, the trimmer is sufficiently light that I can be hold at arm's length at any angle. Unlike a chain saw, this trimmer can be used left hand or right hand on the trigger. Comes in handy when needing to work around obstacles. ... show more

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I have the Skil Pwr Core 40v blower, and absolutely love it. Seems like all their tools come with battery/charger so I figured it would be great to have two batteries. Well, I charged up the battery out of the box, and completely finished two LARGE 52 year old Holly bushes. I didn't measure the branch width, but I feel VERY certain this will cut up to 3/4" as advertised. It cut through all branches like a hot knife through butter!! No binding or bogging down.. Still plenty of charge left after job. Cannot recommend this enough. Probably not for a professional every day landscaper doing a lot of hedge pruning/shaping....but for the homeowner (even with a lot of items to trim) it's absolutely perfect. ... show more

This 40V line of Skil power tools is impressive for the money. I was considering other brands, but this was one of the few that offers a brushless motor. The charger, battery and tool itself are top notch quality and deliver good power. I am impressed with the battery life as I can use this on a big job and still have plenty of battery life left over. I get tired after an hour of trimming and this still has more than half charge. The blades are sharp and I lubricate with some silicone spray before and after each use. On some finer shrubs, I was able to jam the blades once though. This can happen if you get enough particle mass in between the blades to lock up the blade action. Be careful when removing the particles by disconnecting the battery. Coming from 2 cycle gas, this is a nice replacement. For the convenience, it is easy to use regularly to keep bushes tidy. Thanks to high gas prices, this becomes an easier option on the wallet. ... show more

I don't usually have much luck with battery powered tools, but the battery of this trimmer is very powerful and I wear out before it does. This trimmer has easily cut through overgrown honeysuckle vines, native blackberry canes and wild roses without bogging down at all. There are several safeties built into the grip and trigger to prevent accidental starts which are easy to use and much appreciated by someone who cut through the electrical cord on his last trimmer. That's not a problem with this trimmer. It is a little heavy with the battery, so trimming high vines one-handed can be taxing, but it is possible. Just got the SKIL PWR CORE 20 22” Hedge Trimmer, and wow — this thing means business. It’s light enough I barely notice I’m holding it, yet powerful enough that last weekend’s wild jungle-looking hedges didn’t stand a chance. The 22” bar gave me plenty of reach so I didn’t have to wrestle with branches like some kind of angry bear — I just trimmed, stepped back, and felt victorious. It’s not perfect — on a few tougher branches it kinda struggled a bit — but if you’re looking for a solid, easy-to-use trimmer that gets the job done fast, this is a great pick.
