I chose a model on the lower end of the price range, but not the cheapest, because I want to enjoy sewing without frustration. I dont need alot of bells & whistles! Have had it for over a year & am happy with it. I mostly just use it for clothing alterations, repairs & hemming. But have made several items without any issues with material thickness differences, thread tension errors nor thread disasters! This machine has a good variety of stitch designs & is easy to thread & navigate. My only two fusses: The Auto Thread Feature is not easy to use. Needs some further engineering upgrades! I gave up trying to use it. AND The machine does not come with a Manual. C’Mon Singer!!! - How much could it possibly cost to respectively include the Manual? If you've sewn in high-school, then you shouldn't have any problems. So easy to set up and use. If you've never seen before then this is the perfect machine for you. It does come with some instructions and access to a video for instructions on use. this machine works very well. Nothing fancy, just three stitch lengths, plain and zig zag. great for the price. Doesn't have a drop in bobbin but rather the old style i had on old Kenmore but it is workable. just can't see how much thread is left. no auto needle threader but I managed even with these old eyes. I bought this as a travel machine for workshops and it is light and portable while being sturdy. If I find I need more i would buy another. ... show more

It worked fine at first but then it started jamming up really bad and now I cannot sew 1 stitch without it stopping due to the top thread catching on something below. WHAT DO I DO NOW??

I've had the same Singer since 1985. It was easy to use and very reliable. Then it broke and was not worth repairing. I've had this new machine for four months, and I am so done with it!! It freezes up and I end up with multiple threads coming out of it, or all kinds of loops of thread inside the bobbin case. I took it in to a Joann store. They didn't have a repair person there but two separate people told me the case must be wobbly. I used a screw driver to tighten the screws. They were a little loose. But, no, the problem still exists. So frustrating because I have several pieces I need to work on right now, and I've got to find a repairman. Don't buy this machine. ... show more
