I bought this item because I was tired of mending simple things by hand. I recently found that one of my jackets had a rather large hole in the pocket and I couldn't bring myself to stitch it up manually. This Singer portable sewing machine really did the trick. As other users have said, the unit that I received was the Turkish model. I was able to figure out mostly what to do based on the pictures in the instructions and the rest I deciphered using google translate. It did a good job at creating a nice even stitch. It wasn't very long before I had gotten the hang of using it in a nice left to right motion as intended. This thing runs on 4AA batteries. Since this is probably not something you'll use everyday, you may want to put some rechargeable batteries in there when necessary. I don't have any major complaints except, (1) I wish the seller had indicated that the Turkish model would be the one that I was receiving and (2) I wish the presser foot that holds the fabric down was able to be raised slightly higher. It's a bit difficult to get fabric under it. You need to do a little shimmy to get things where you want them. I'd highly recommend this item if you're doing a hem on some pants or a dress, or making some other simple repair. I'm a person who hadn't used a sewing machine since Home Economics back in middle school and I didn't have any issue making this thing work for me. YMMV. ... show more

I bought this to help sew quilt pieces. Simple easy, straight lines 4-5 inches in length. No need to turn, just stitch and cut and move along. (My REAL sewing machine being packed up and impossible to set up in the camper we just recently moved into while building our forever home.). I thought this would make piecing the quilt quicker, as I was simply hand sewing it. Problems: No speed setting, it’s on or off…. And on is pretty fast. If you have a piece to sew in the correct place, when you move your hand to switch on the machine, it runs away with the material. The on button is on the top instead of in a place where you could easily hold and switch on an off quickly. Only holds bobbin size thread well. It will hold the other regular size spool, but that gets easily knocked off. No way to set the tension as needed. The thread bunched up on the underneath side, which tells me the timing or tension was off. And there is no effective way to fix it. There is a tension knob, but no marks or indicators. It doesn’t lift up the presser foot to insert cloth, you can manually raise and lower the needle to insert cloth abs with your hand, lift and pry up the foot a little, but it takes two hands and you would need a 3rd in order to insert the cloth. So I bought this as a means to make simple caveman tunics for Halloween. This product is best suited for small fixes, not actual full-blown sewing. Within a few operations the mechanism that loops the stich below the footplate stopped functioning properly and without proper mechanical knowledge I had no idea how to fix to make the unit operational again. prior to that I noticed the unit seizing during stitching. It is easy enough to operate and the instructions provided were sufficient. Love that they include a needle threader and it makes knotting stiches very easy and intuitive. Fine product for fixes but don't even try to make something with this - it is just not durable enough. ... show more

The static thread tensioner and the single thread design is kind of a bummer. Since this is Singer we’re talking about, I thought it would have more of the usual functions and abilities. There’s no quick lift option for the stitching arm, no variety of stitches to choose from, no second bobbin of thread under the stitch plate for making double stitching (so if you pull on the thread end it all comes undone like with a bag of dog food or charcoal briquettes). The first one I ordered didn’t even power on despite brand new batteries due to poor assembly (and design) but it was replaced for free and I didn’t even have to send the defective one back (perhaps because they already knew it was just a piece of junk and not worth reclaiming). But all other things aside, the replacement does still work for light stitching that at least look presentable. ... show more

This product isn't quite worthless however it's difficult to use the motor only runs when you are actively pressing the button. there's no dead-stop feature to keep the machine from running needlessly there's no function to prevent thread knotting so you end up using far more than is necessary. Even the plastic is second-rate too hand strength and the thing cracks! ... show more
