This thing moves lots of air. It generates a fair amount of white noise, and no surprise there. But my fan was also rattling like crazy. It turns out one of the clips that secure the front and back cage was loose enough that the cage would vibrate when the fan was running at the higher settings. I gave it a crimp with a pair of pliers, and the noise is gone. If yours is doing the same, check the clips to make sure they're gripping the metal cage securely. If not, a quick crimp with pliers will fix it. ... show more

I have this in a small garage converted to dog kennels. It has a window airconditioner but I wanted something that would circulate the air. This fan is awesome! I set it up off the floor, not far from the airconditioner. It does an excellent job of pulling the air and circulating it to the other end of the kennel. I mainly used it on the low setting. It will blow your hair off...lol. It is loud, but that wasn't a problem. It ran constantly. I checked the heat of the motor every time I went in to clean and feed and let dogs out for a bit. It never over heated. I did have on medium on the very hot humid days but between it and the small airconditioner it stayed a constant 68 degrees. It is easy to move and adjust, it does have a small metal handle to pick it up with. I did put an appliance extension cord on it as the cord didn't quite reach the outlet. It ran fine. My fan makes a humming sound on the highest setting, but that.is.it. Any fan will make noise when it is moving air fast, which this one does. I'm completely satisfied. It's my second fan of the same model, since my first one performed so well. The fan's motor has ball bearings (vs. nearly every other fan motor I've seen that has simple bushing type bearings that are simply not as durable IMHO). I know because I opened the motor and looked. Very simple to fix as well when the bearings do wear out, which should be YEARS from now. If others have noisier fans, my guess is the bearings are a little noisier, which can admittedly happen with bearings from various manufacturers. BUT they are so simple to replace, and are so cheap to get on Amazon, that if you have any DIY inclination at all you should try the repair yourself. You just disassemble enough to get at the motor and open it, pop out the rotor to see the bearings at each end of the shaft, read the number on the bearing for sizing and shielding information (my 12 inch fan's were 608ZZ), and order a few more, at less than a buck apiece typically. Then slip off the old bearings and replace with the new ones. BTW, their illustrations of fan internals looks like complete bunk! At least for the 12 inch fan. There are no gears, the bearings are not riding along the outer edge, and the rotor/stator configuration is nothing like reality. Just look at the pic I provided.
