I purchased this after reading all the reviews, and was expecting it to be wobbly with a harp (holds the shade) that would be too small that I would need to replace, and that the packaging would be everywhere after opening. I just couldn't find anything else I liked for under $800 so I still gave it a try. I had none of those experiences! This lamp is great! The harp and shade are well-sized, keeping the proportions just right - and the harp is black (really elevates the look of the lamp $$$) AND has a substantial (nice and heavy) metal finial above the shade! The packaging is styrofoam pieces (not unusual), but I was surprised at how well it was packaged to prevent damage and it did not get all over my house as other reviewers complained about? The harp/socket were super easy to connect to the lamp body and is very secure - does not spin at all and is level. The top of the harp allows for adjustment to level the shade, too, (mine didn't need any adjustment) and the finial tightens to hold the shade at whatever angle you'd like it. The shade looks high quality - the edges are finished tightly and goes very well with the lamp. The shade is a burlap material (refined french country look) , but fits surprisingly well into my transitional style. I tried the lamp with a cream silk shade, but went back to the burlap! When the lamp is on, the burlap is pretty much unnoticeable - so it worked out for me to keep it in the end. The only thing I didn't like was the cheesy, painted-on antiquing. Another reviewer said they were able to wipe it off - so I tried that, too! After the paint was wet from a cloth, it wiped away pretty easily. Looks MUCH better without the painted-on "aging". I wish it were a little bigger, but it is definitely a full-sized lamp, pretty standard. Overall, this lamp looks as good as a similar one I have that cost nearly $1,000 (without a shade!). For this price, it can't be touched! and I can afford to keep it in the family (aka rough-housing) room where I have to keep replacing lamps! Definitely buy this if you are thinking about it! If the style works - it will surely elevate the look of your space! I am surprised at how impressed I was, especially with the price point - and have received MANY compliments! I saw a pair of lamps very similar to these from Pottery Barn like 8 years ago and since then I have not been able to find anything remotely similar until these beauties came into my life! I did love everything about the lamps except for the brownish distressing that is brushed all over the base so I took a magic eraser and buffed off the distressing to give it a cleaner finish to go with my style! I absolutely loved the end result! The lamps have a beautiful crackle finish and the dark distressing at the bottom and top are just enough to give it an aged worn look that is just completely charming! These lamps are large and sturdy. Much less money than I would have paid elsewhere. I have them in my family room and like them a lot. And they would be perfect for a country or farmhouse setting. I’m a pottery Barn shopper but just couldn’t Bring myself to pay $375 per lamp for A Similar style. I found these on Amazon and was very hesitant to pull the trigger but I read the reviews and followed the advice of the lady who removed the crazy distressed marks (that don’t look distressed ) with a damp rag and soft scrub. They literally came off with not much effort. The lamps look amazing and are a heavy solid ceramic ginger jar lamp. If you are on the fence about these, do not hesitate. The lamp itself is great quality for the price. However there is a very flimsy connection (or lack of) between the base and the shade. The top just sits on the base with nothing securing the two together. You have to pull the cord taught through the base to keep the shade secure and even then it starts to tilt. So I find myself constantly straightening the shade. Fortunately there are in my office so I can manage but i would not put them in a higher traffic area like a living room without modifying how the shade attaches. ... show more

I really had my eye on lamps, similar style, from Pottery Barn. I really would have liked to purchase them. However at $220 a piece, I passed on that purchase. I found these for $53 off of Amazon. Damaged box item like new and they arrived unharmed. What I didn’t realize was the original distressing on the lamps that was to make them look old. I’m not a huge fan of all the distressing now days especially when it looks so on purpose, kind of fake. I decided to try to wipe it off and was really happy when, with not much effort, I was ableist to remove the brown distressed marks. I used a damp cloth and a little abrasive cleaner like comet. Not a lot. Now I have the lamps more like I was hoping for. I’m not a huge fan of the double handles but I do like that little extra detail on the side of each lamp. Also the bottom of the lamp looks neat where the glaze is uneven. I do really like that. Overall for the price I paid and the size of the lamps, I feel it’s a great value. It gave me the look I was wanting for only a fraction of the price of other lamps this style. ... show more
