  • Compare with Merrill
SDQH color is more accurate than Merrill, but picture shows make up color in overexpose area. SVG lens does not need USB dock to adjust lens front back focus. Adjust focus each time automatically to make focus speed much slower than Merrill. Non-SVG lens needs manual focus with LV magnification 4x or 8x. DGN or RAW has to be determined before taking pictures, both formats are not exchangeable. Largest file size is in DGN. Each RAW wait time is within 5 seconds. Writing speed is the same on Micro sdxc with adapter and on SD card. Some picture adjustment has to be done in camera post processing. New edited is not putting next to original, it is putting the last. Scroll back to original is torture with lots of pictures in front of it. Screen is bright enough to show correct color under sunlight. Most of time I make composition through screen: high, low, diagonal, that is not possible using Merrill. In low light, there is no built-in camera flash. There is no rear curtain flash as Merrill. Fastest is 1/4000 but Merrill is 1/8000, cannot use large aperture to create bokeh under bright sunlight. Dynamic range is noticeable better than Merrill. Usable ISO for me is 800. Prints in 8X12 look more solid than SDQ but not as good as Merrill. There is no panorama function in this camera. This camera is as heavy as Merrill. Under studio lighting, Merrill Foveon produces better pictures close to what I see is what I get. For other conditions, SDQH is best Sigma camera ever. ... show more

  • I am Enjoying Photography Anew :)
If you are a patient photographer, one who takes one's time to compose a shot, you will be happy with what this camera captures. If you are expecting a Canon or Nikon or Sony or whatever, this camera is not any of those in auto-focusing quality; most of the time I manual focus anyway. But the image quality (IQ) is superb. The menu system is very easy to understand and manipulate. The full pleasure is felt when the images are pulled into post. I knew the IQ was going to be good for all of my research, but what sold me on the camera is that it has a real size and grip to it. I am six-four. Other cameras have my finger tips doing almost all of the holding of the camera. I have a sure and secure grip on this camera at all times... especially since I got the PG-41 Power grip for it. For me, handling this camera all day is easy just for the ergonomics. Sigma did a fantastic job in comparison to Sony and Nikon and Canon and whomever else:) ... show more

  • Megapixel monster.
The Sdqh is a slight but noticeable improvement on the Sdq, better resolution, better low light performance and better bokeh rendition due to the larger sensor. The camera is extremely well built and is comfortable especially while using the battery grip. The body is well balanced when usimg the large Art series of lenses. This is a niche camera, great for portraits and landscapes, not for action or event photography. If you are expecting it to do those things you're mistaken and shouldn't spend your money on this. But if you are patient photographer with a bit helping of minor ocd tendencies you'll live the files from this baby. Ps the raw files run in the 140 range. The only thing that comes close in sharpnest is the 645z but there isn't that traditional 3-d pop from medium format but you can't ask for more for only 1200 bucks ... show more

I'm realy impresed by the picture sharpness! bit disapointed by picuture noise at ISO above 200! nevertheless this camera is for landscape enthusiast! not a speed deamon at all ;-) the focusing system is preaty different to what you used to have before.

  • In my OPINION...
Coming from a Canon 5DSr and a Pentax 645D, this is one of the best rendering cameras I've used. This was also a big step up from the SD1 Merrill. Using this with Sigma DG Art glass only, I refer to this as my smedium format camera. I prefer the images out of this over the 5dsr and it is a close second behind the 645D when comparing image quality only at ISO 100. I use my Canon 1DXII when I need more versatility. This beast definitely has to be tamed for the best results. Moral of the story, make sure you understand the limitations of the camera before you purchase. Pros: The rendering looks better than current high megapixels FF dslr bodies at ISO 100 if you expose properly VERY solid image quality for the money at ISO 100. Nothing else comes close at this price. Solid build quality, it feels like it can withstand a beating There is a noticeable file sharpness that is unique compared to other 35mm DSLR cameras DNG compatible which allows you more freedom in post -disclaimer - I didn't notice/see any quality loss vs XF3 raw like some have reported online. I'm using current firmware as of this review. -disclaimer - For best results, you should create a custom profile with a color chart if you use Adobe Lightroom SuperFineDetail mode works extremely well on a tripod and with no scene motion (think food photography, still life, or static landscapes) Multiple crop ratios (4:3, 3:2, 1:1, etc.), masked in the viewfinder, that are applied to the DNG file Cons: It's slow in regards to processing the image and has slow auto focus (vs peers) but still fine for "standard" portrait work and landscape work Sigma's Raw software Photo Pro is still somewhat of a headache to use Not versatile at all and for best results don't exceed ISO 200 Dynamic range not as great as some of the competition This is NOT a general purpose camera Viewfinder refresh rate is noticeably worse in low light SFD requires using Sigma's Photo Pro software File sizes are quite larger and may impact your workflow Battery life is not that great (uses Panasonic GH5 batteries but you can get cheap ones here that work fine) ... show more
