I bought this lense a few months ago, tested it out before writing a review. and all i can say is simply amazing! specially the sharpness. i use my Nikon D7100 with this lens and with the lenses sharpness + the cameras capablity, is just amazing! i could crop the image down to 100% and it shows very little to no signs of chromatic abberation. which is every photographers problem (well for me at least). But seeing how sharp and clear the images i get, i couldnt believe it myself. I've read some people had problems with the focusing system (AF) on the lens but mine was perfectly fine right out of the box. no adjustment needed. It focuses quick and no mottor noise. The build quality is top notch. it is a little heavier than i expected but i like it like that. you'll have a more firm grip to it. The only downside is it has no vibration reduction or image stabalization or what ever you call it. but other than that, i have no problem with the lens. i definitely recommend this lens to be included with your gear. having the constant 1.8 apperture through all zoom level is basically having an 18 to 35mm prime lenses in a single lens! that itself can save you from buying seperate lenses which will cost a lot more. but yeah. 5/5 Must have lens. Sigma Art lens is definitely one to look out for.

This lens has no business being this affordable! This is my new favorite lens, I have not taken it off my camera (D7100) since I got it. I have a Nikon 50mm 1.8 and a Tamron 28-75 2.8, as well as a couple kit lenses. This by far fits my needs the best. I do a lot of work in small and sometimes crowded and low-light spaces, this lens is absolutely perfect for that. The photo I am sharing is straight out of the camera/RAW only cropped for detail and converted for web in Photoshop. I shot this at 1/5000 sec; f/1.8, 18 mm; ISO 640. This was just a test shot for lighting, but it shows what this lens can do! You can see a little CA on the leaves in direct sunlight, but that is easily fixable. You can also see the focus point on the flower is quite sharp while the rest has a beautiful blur.

This is the best built, best performing, and best looking lens I've ever owned. I saved up months to purchase this item and I'm so glad that I did. The pictures are amazing and the aperture is fantastic for bokeh. The only downsides are the zoom, if it had a larger zoom I'd say this would be the only lens I needed. I have tried it in low lighting, but have not tried it out for stargazing shots. I plan on taking more pictures with this lens soon and I will update my review with what I find. So far I would say this lens is a must buy!

Going to start by saying I clearly received a good copy of this lens (in reference to all the reviews I've read that mention focus problems). I'm pretty gob smacked by this lens! It focuses super fast, super accurate, and nearly silently. I'm a bit of a pixel peeper, and at 100% zoom, I can't believe the amount of detail. It's easily on par with my sharpest lens (Nikon 50mm f/1.4G). The focus and zoom rings both move smooth, but with enough resistance to be able to subtly adjust it. As with all the better Sigma lenses, it comes with the awesome very padded, zippered case. Others have mentioned, but must also say, the lens hood clicks smoothly, but solidly in place, and fits very nicely when reversed for storage. Now, many peoples biggest complaint about this lens (and, the reason it took me so long to pull the trigger) is the size and weight. Yes, it's hefty, but it's not that bad. I use it on a D5300 (smallish and light body), and yes, it is a little front heavy, but with a lens like this you should support it with the lens cradled in your off hand, so no big deal. The bokeh it produces is lovely! Very smooth. This lens probably isn't for everyone. It's razor sharp, lovely bokeh, super fast, and solidly built, but...The 18-35 range might be rather limited for some, and it's not cheap. I do loads of UWA shots, so for me it's a nice extension from the Sigma 8-16 I use.

I have a D7200 and shoot primarily (90%) landscape photography, and sell on stock-photo sites. Please allow me to give you my assessment: Pro: - Extremely well built (5 Stars) - Manual focus ring a pleasure (5 Stars) - Simple Auto to Manual focus button (5 Stars) - Perhaps the sharpest, best clarity APS-C glass on the market (set MTF records; 5 Stars) So why only 4 stars: Con: - Extremely heavy lens that if not very well secured on tripod will swivel down and hit the tripod legs (heavy to transport if backpacking for shots) - Biggest disappointment was shooting indoor using a Nikon SPEEDLIGHT SB700 flash; creates a soft focus on human subject/poor coloration. Took 45 Xmas shots and 5 turned out sharp on subject. The Bottom Line: Hard to find a lens that exhibits this type of clarity and little diffraction in outdoor landscape shots at this price-point. I have NOT seen any soft focusing in outdoor light (100+ photos) or even when low indoor light is present (with tripod minus any flash usage), as noted in other reviews. I will keep my Nikon 1:1.8G 35mm / 50mm primes for indoor flash solely for this purpose. For landscape photography, simply outstanding glass. If you primarily shoot indoor photography with a Nikon SPEEDLIGHT for your kids, look elsewhere! 1/3/2016: I wanted to provide an update review to this glass. My two criticisms of this lens were not as well founded as originally thought. First, I retract my color statement on using the Sigma lens with the SB700 Speedflash. My placing the available Nikon diffuser on the flash and making slight +/- exposure compensation fixed the discoloration issue. Second, I did have to use the “AF Fine Tune adjustment” (lens calibration) in the Nikon D7200 Menu to adjust for a front focusing issue that caused my Xmas subjects to have blurry faces. A hassle, but not uncommon; in specification for manufacturing tolerances, but needed in-camera fine tuning. This made future flash shots tact sharp. This may not have shown up as noticeable in Landscape photos, but were apparent in close up portraits. In admission of human errors I could have corrected myself, I am updating my rating; Review is 5 Stars!!!

This is a large, serious piece of glass. It takes sharp, colorful pictures and, in all the venues I've used it, focuses briskly and reliably. There are times when I wish for a bit more zoom range, but the speed of the lens and the quality of the pictures means that they're croppable without loss of quality. Works very well on my D7100.

the lens has very good construction quality, the photos are great, the 1.8 blur is fascinating. The bad thing is the weight and it usually has focus problems in some cameras. In my d5500 it was a headache to get the focus right, not so in the d7500
