  • As charming as the first two
Format: Kindle
Chris, Mia and Zooey are back, settling into their new home and their new life as a throuple. Things seem great, but storms are brewing on the horizon that will test them all. Chris will go war with expectations and with their new neighborhood's HOA. Zooey will go to war with a nasty IP thief who has no morals and a very rich daddy. And Mia will go to war with plants. Then there's Echo, the actress chosen to play the lead in the movie adaptation of Chris' book. She's an extraordinary talent. She's also young, excruciatingly shy, and way more wounded than she seems. Chris just might be her salvation ... if her presence doesn't tear his world apart. The third Side By Side entry is a bit more serious than the first two. The stakes are higher, and Knight weaves in serious concerns about technology and modern society with a couple of nasty characters who push our MCs farther than we've seen before. Yet the whole thing is told in Knight's breezy voice, alternately bemused and amused as appropriate. The editing could be tighter. I can't remember whether the first two entries had this many wrong words, missing words and punctuation gaffes. But the writing and the story are strong enough to overcome that. No matter how grim things get, there's always a bit of charming hilarity a page or two away. We never doubt our MCs will overcome the HOA and the IP thief. I feel sorry for Mia, though. She's still magnificent, but it's clear from the start that she stands no chance against the plants. ... show more

  • Best one yet
Format: Kindle
Loved getting to see how Echo’s addition changed up the group dynamic. Zooey got a chance to shine and Mia got her own story too. This one can be heavier in places. I don't mean that it's dark, but there are moments where Chris has a deep conversation with Echo about philosophy. It’s not only feel-good vibes, but it is comforting in its own way. Like it's nice that other people are thinking about these things too. I enjoyed that. I couldn’t stop reading and could relate to what Chris was going through. Great writer and a fantastic series. ... show more

  • Little substance
Format: Kindle
Im writing this review as a big fan of Book 1 & 2. Im giving 4/5 stars just so it doesnt hurt the author's rating. Honestly 2/5 stars for me. The pacing of this book was so fast with very little plot or substance to it at all. It was alot of "Okaaaay and some stuff happened here, and stuff and stuff and more stuff. Here's a nugget of plot aaaaand now we're back to hitting the word count goal." Book 3 was really disappointing. The irony here is that Chris is chastised by his editor for losing the slice of life element in his newest book and forgetting it's the small moments that matter. Which is exactly what the author of Book 3 has done. This feels like a poor filler arc. What made Book 1 shine were the small interactions between Chris and Mia. Book 2 had some great down to earth dialogue with Zooey and Chris. But it was all lacking here. I honestly didn't enjoy reading Book 3 and it was a slog to get through where Ive read Book 1 four times since it released. ... show more

  • Fantastic!
Format: Kindle
I really liked all the subplots in the book. They made it feel very real, and Echo was an amazing addition to the group. I look forward to the next one!

  • just an awesome series
Format: Kindle
Every book gets better, more confident. The girls feel real and so do the relationships. This book is worth the price of admission.

  • Good writing found here
Format: Kindle
Unusually well written, especially for a series of this genre. Real people facing real challenges. I'm looking forward to book 4.

  • Preachy, a tad forced, still hot sex
Format: Kindle
Less and less charming as the series progresses, but still ok. The characters are beginning the sad descent into type-casting where they have a couple repeating traits that define them, rather than surprising us with their uniqueness and growth.

  • too much…
Format: Kindle
I really liked the 1st and 2nd books but this was too much… Jesus I felt like I was in Philosophy 101. The amount of platitudes and folk wisdom was hard to stomach. Many times I needed to skip over sections when the author got “long winded” with his preachy monologues If more of this is in the next book I won’t be reading it. ... show more
