  • Recommended For Month-Long Games
I tend to be a little obsessive when it comes to games like Civ. V. I want to win every possible way against as many possible players on the largest possible map! With Civ. V, a game like that takes months but is totally worth it! I love this game. Each game I've played has provided a new experience for me. I only wish that you could combine units into armies... which you can't... unfortunately. That makes it a little bit of a hassle to move and position multiple individual units appropriately to attack a specific target. The one issue I did have before even playing the game was with the Direct settings. Originally I chose Direct 11, but found out quickly that on my laptop it only caused unit streaking until the whole screen was streaked-out and unplayable. Direct 10 produced similar results, so luckily Direct 9 eliminated the streaking issues and allows me to play to my hearts content. Honestly, graphics for games like this don't really concern me at all. If this were a game with awesome cinematic battle scenes, then it would be different. ... show more

  • Amazing game!
I love this game!!! Playing it is just simply amazing! I have a $500 Dell laptop and it never drops lower then 50fps (at 1080p). Civilizations: What is there to say? Me as a American playing as George Washington was really fun and it really liked the special ability's so I could differentiate from my playing style from the other leaders. Gameplay: Never gets old. Whenever I am not slaughtering barbarians (like a boss) i am strategically planning my next move and how to handle situations and conflicts between the city states and other civilizations. It is always fun when your making a new game to mess around with the advanced settings (especially the temperature and humidity controls) to make the game more in your favor or to make the game a true challenge. Modifications: Really enjoyable with the PC master race mod and the tactical nuke mod. If your like me and love the accommodations of features of other games then go with the Fallout and the elder scrolls mods to spice up you normal game. Overall: Awesome. I am hooked and i would recommend this to any gamer. ... show more

  • Worth it in the end
I was slow to try Civilization V due to complaints I had heard from people like me that have loved the entire Civilization series. I have no idea what the previous versions were like, without the "complete" additions, but I am impressed with Civ V. Diplomacy is much improved, warfare is more strategic than before and the graphics are good. The only thing keeping this from being a five star review is that the AI is poor at warfare, the Hall of Fame was hard to find and there are no grand victory videos or celebrations when you win. Despite these drawbacks, the game is still very enjoyable. Also, I've not yet seen a civilization vote for anyone in diplomatic victory except themselves, it might be worth tweaking to allow a small, weak civilization to actually vote for a protector or civilization that has liberated their cities. (Note: I've not played online.) ... show more

  • Don't buy this garbage.
The game is okay, but as a player of Civilization since it first started, this will be my last Civ game. They have this mostrosity you have to log in to called Steam. It's a separate program and requires you to be online to initially set up the product. The problem is, it can be a NIGHTMARE just to start. So, you have the disk, you have the product key, you've paid your money, now you have to go through a process as involved as a tax return in order to play. It's simply not worth it. I regret having spent the money. Don't buy this garbage. ... show more

  • Lose your self in this game
This series is one of my favorites I love it. This is one of the first games that made me lose track of time completely, after installing it at about 3pm I played till about 4 in the morning without realizing how much time had gone by. I think that it's because your all way a turn away from something finishing a building, a monument, researching something, conquering a city it's very fun. This is the complete edition whit all the expansions included. To install initially you WILL NEED STEAM even whit the disc version, I did already had steam downloaded so this was not an issue for me. Once downloaded you can switch steam to offline and play whitout an Internet connection but you do need to be online for the initial instal. ... show more

  • Excellent Game!
This is one of my favorite games, and highly recommended if you are a Civ fan. I have played all of the Civilization games, since the very first edition more than 25 years ago, and this is my favorite version so far. Yes, you are forced to use Steam, but unfortunately, that is the only option if you want to play this game. You can run this game with Steam in offline mode though -- but you will still need Steam installed. This is the full version of the game, but it has been updated since the disk was made. This means you will have to download the latest full version from Steam, so be prepared for that when you first install this game. ... show more

  • Wonderful bargain for the previous generation game
For game players who don't absolutely need the latest of everything, purchasing the previous version of this classic and popular title is a very cost-effective way to enjoy a great game at a low cost. I had minor problems during installation, as my connection to Steam never seems stable enough. (I have no problems connecting to any other online sites, including streaming video, but Steam is always glitchy for me.) The good news is a steady connection to Steam is not needed after the game is installed, as my system prompts me to play "offline" if Steam is being glitchy when I start a new session. ... show more

  • Good but not great game
Good but not great game. Of course using Steam automatically deducts a star. I do not like it better than Civ4 but some of the additions like city states and combat system are nice. I do not like the restriction on stacking units but I understand the complaint. For me the pace of the game seems so slow I get bored before I ever finish. Update two months later: I have not played the game in two months and have not missed it one bit. I may never play again, it's just not that fun. ... show more
