I bought this pump to avoid building a platform to raise my rain barrel setup off the ground for pressure. The on-demand feature works great and means we can use a spray/trigger nozzle anywhere the hose reaches in the yard. Without the pump there wasn't enough pressure to use the sprayer. Concerning the 1/2" male threads -- after reading reviews and the product data sheet, I was concerned that the parallel threads would be an issue (i.e. there weren't many suitable fitting options). Research while the pump was in transit suggested that mating parallel threads were only available in metal hydraulic hose fittings (the pump manufacturer recommends not using metal fittings) or Shurflo's own fittings (which looked cheap). However, I used 1/2" NPT to PEX push fittings from a big box store without issues. There are no leaks and the PEX provides a non-rigid connection since the pump vibrates while operating. ... show more

    • Great pump, but crappy connections

Got this pump to replace another pump I bought on Amazon that failed within a month. Liked this one because it is diaphragm rather than impellers. Seems well built. Surprising thing is that this pump is far quieter than the previous pump. Primes itself and moves the fluid quickly. As many people noted, the threaded connections are technically 1/2" NPT males. However, Shurflo forms them such that they want to sell you their connectors. Standard pipe fittings tend to try to cross thread and become hard as if the thread is wrong. Caution should be used because the pump connections are molded plastic and could break off. My final solution was to go to Tractor Supply and get suitable plastic threaded connections. These connections were still tight to get on and took much care to ensure I didn't goof up the threads. I gingerly used a wrench to put them on while holding the pump body to try to minimize the stress on it. Got them on and connected to my hose lines and all permanently mounted/wired. I ordered this SHURflo Industrial Pump (Model# 2088-594-154) on August 23, 2018, and it began running non-stop, a week ago. 3/28/19. SEVEN MONTHS. Pump started to run FLAT OUT, for like 10 minutes, before it would catch and finally reach the pressure setting and cut off. It got progressively worse, in a couple of days, until it just ran FLAT-OUT without ever cutting off. When it DID pump, It was only a trickle of water with some air spurts. I notice a slight leak between the pump housing halves... so I tightened down the screws (many Amazon reviewers for this product said they had to do the same). Worked for a day, then same thing. Since it had air mixed in with the little water it WAS getting to the faucet, I replaced the teflon tape on all inlet (suction-side) connections. Got it working for half a day. Finally, it just ran and ran, pumping no water. Discouraged (and REALLY needing running water ASAP, I began researching repair kit options. No matter where I shopped, parts and shipping would cost me half what a new entire pump would cost. Add-in my time, labor, and the possibility that parts may not fix my problem, I just ordered another entire pump. Once I get the defective one off, I'll either see if there is any warranty remedies, or I'll inspect closer, repair and use as a back up when this new "replacement" invariably fails. :( ... show more

I'm using this for an off grid house. I have solar, inverter, batteries, so can run the pump on AC power. I also have a 12V DC pump that this will be working along side with. Side by side, they're physically about the same size, but this pump is noticeably better, builds up pressure faster, and really pumps the water. I got this specifically for doing laundry, since the DC Pump would really run down the battery banks, even though I'd be running the generator for the washing machine. Now I can start the generator, start the laundry, and the new pump will just run from the generator. The pressure switch works great, builds up to pressure, and shuts off like its supposed to. Note that you'll have to wire this switch to a circuit, it comes with bare leads, no plugin. ... show more

I had Great Hopes for this pump because of the positive reviews plus the fact that I am disabled and have no Transportation anywhere. But I received mine and it barely worked for about a day or two at most. I received mine on July 11th, today is July 18th and it just spits and sputters. Unfortunately, I have no way to print out a paper for shipping label as I have no printer. Only my phone. I have the original box to return it but, that's it. Please replace it and send me a return label to my mailbox.. I will return it as soon as I receive the label. I'm assuming, I might have received a pump built on a bad day or something. I know Shurflo has always been very good with their pumps. * I will edit and update my rating if my pump ends up being replaced. *edit* I figured out and fixed the issue. The problem was not the pump, the problem was myself and the way I hooked with insufficient water supply fittings that were too small. So far it's been a very very good pump but don't expect the seller to contact you with any issues you may end up having. When I was looking to purchase this pump, I looked everywhere for pictures of the sticker because it tells you a few things that you really need to know but I never could find any.
