  • An okay mic but at a premium
Style: Old Packaging
I bought this microphone to use for mobile voice recording and to use as a mic with a high end pair of headphones that does not have a built in microphone. The mic works well with my now aging Galaxy S6 and also works well with my laptop/desktop computers with an appropriate TRRS to TRS adapter. Pros: * Reasonably large dynamic range and plenty for recording voices * No battery required * Included windscreen is plenty good for regular indoor use * Cord length is just the right length Cons: * Price. I think there are competing products with equal sound quality for far less money. * Cord vibrations are easily picked up and cord is extremely thin/fragile * Included clip is too large to easily hide on clothing * Lower output signal requires a good sound card/recording device with pre-amp for good quality recordings * Rarely works with USB-C to 3.5mm adapters All in all, I have mixed feelings on whether I would recommend this lavalier mic or not. The sound quality can be fairly good if you have good equipment to feed it into, but expect to spend a decent amount to get great audio. It's too expensive for what it achieves in my opinion but it will do the job. ... show more

  • Disappointing Sound Quality -- not for professional use
Style: New Packaging
I bought this lav mike to replace my old stereo lav mike which was bigger, I used both on the Zoom H2N. The sound quality of the Shure is way too cheap compared with the lav mike I have. It's flat, it has no bass. And no matter how hard I worked on it such as using Adobe Audition to put some bass on it, or mastering it with different filter... you can't get the bass. Obviously, I wasn't expecting the quality of a condenser studio mike, however this quality is just unbearable. It just lacks of power, the vividness of the sound — it's not there. If this is your first mike, you might not hear the difference. But if you had a good lav mike before (and I'm even not talking about an XLR lav mike), and have high quality expectations to sound, this Shure lav mike will be quite disappointing. I should have known from the beginning, and lesson learned: Never buy a lav mike that advertises to be for a smartphone. Even though with the right adaptor TRRS to TRS you can use it on your audio recording device, like I did on my Zoom H2N)... this mike in the end was made for smartphones. Meaning: The target audience do not care much for sound quality — smartphones or any other devices such as tablets, laptops on that matter have the most terrifying recording sound quality in my experience, and no professional would record on such devices. The manufacturer would not even bother in my opinion to create a good quality lav mike. With that in mind, I won't be even bothering with the competitor Rode Smartlav+, either. For good sound quality lav mike, I have to look for something much more sophisticated than that. I hope this helps you in your journey as well. ... show more

  • Good sound, but flimsy cord
Style: New Packaging
Voice recorded with this microphone is crisp and clean and better sounding than a cheap off-brand I had to send back. Works as advertised with phones and tablets with a 3.5mm trrs audio jack. Can connect to computers and other devices with the proper adapter. Works well with my laptop PC using a trrs to trs adapter attached to the microphone input. Just be aware that not all third-party adapters work as advertised or with trrs plugs. Output level is a little low when connected to a computer without automatic gain control (AGC), compared to the cheap unit I had to replace. However, was able to compensate for the lower output with my computer's sound card control. Knocking off one star because the cord is quite flimsy and doesn't look like it will last long. Expected better for the price and a from a company with the history and track record that Shure has. ... show more

  • Defective :/
Style: Old Packaging
As of now I'm leaving a 2 Star review because my product is defective. Will contact Shure tomorrow morning as they do include a warranty. Will Change review if handled appropriately. On amazons part shipping came faster than expected. I ordered Monday night and received Thursday afternoon (today.) Was very excited to upgrade my mic setup so I opened the box right away. Everything looked high quality the mic itself is small but solid looking and comes with a sturdy metal clip. The manual said it will work if you plug straight into your recording device, and not to put the windscreen on too tight (leave room for air to move.) I did all of this with my PC first just how I did with my old 3.5mm mic. I didn't get any recording pickup so I checked my recording device input and everything seemed right. I then tried with my xbox controller and a 3.5mm headphone/mic splitter. Headphones worked but not the mic. Then I tried that on my iPhone with the Shure app, still doesn't even read it. Same with my camera it will not pick up any sound. Lastly I use my PC again with FL Studio and it picks up a helicopter like sound like something is definitely broken in there. I'm just looking for a good lav omni/stereo mic under 100$ I will be patient and try out a replacement but if it takes too long I'll just go with a different mic. ... show more

  • Perfect for recording with the Mevo
Style: Old Packaging
Purchased this to record onto a Mevo. The Mevo utilizes an iPhone (or Android) as the control device for recording. So you plug the mic into the iPhone and that's how it all works. The sound the Shure MVL produces is very natural. It has a studio quality sound. And it produces no echo as my previous mic did (see comments on Rode mic below). The Shure MVL is perfect for my needs. So glad I purchased this mic! I had previously purchased a Rode smartLav+ mic. The problem with the Rode was echo. I tried lowering the mic gain, less echo, but echo was still there. So I purchased a Shure MVL mic. Sound on the Shure MVL is more natural sounding, and there is ZERO echo (using the exact same set up as I had used with the Rode mic). Maybe I got a bum Rode, don't know. Whatever the problem - the sound was unusable recording with the Mevo. The Shure MVL is a hands down winner. It's found a Shure spot in my video recording arsenal. ;-) ... show more
