Shimano produces high-quality, innovative products. My Shimano reels have lasted for decades with regular maintenance. I have used the Shimano Calcutta in saltwater with excellent results. However, the Shimano Tranx has become my new favorite saltwater reel. I bought two in 2019 for $200 each, and they are still performing well. The Tranx is a low-profile casting reel featuring a smooth retrieve and a reliable drag system. One is paired with a seven-foot medium-action Okuma Reflexions rod. The other is paired with a seven-foot medium-heavy St. Croix Mojo Inshore rod. We fish for speckled trout, redfish, flounder, bass, and more. The instant anti-reverse broke on the 3rd cast the first time that I used it. I had high hopes for the real, and was a little underwhelmed from all the hype around it. So, let me start off by saying the Tranx line of reels I have are all 5 stars. I have the 150 and 300 and they are phenomenal. This reel also felt great, but upon receiving the drag star had a gouge in it and the thumb bar didn’t disengage sometimes when starting to crank the handle. Was it refurbished or used? I don’t know. Amazing, super smooth. Got it for the salt. The only thing I noticed is that the drag needs to be excessively buttoned down to fish my higher rated line( 20 and straight braid) but still, 200 size real for the price in my opinion. Yewww!! 🎣
