This does help with pain relief in my upper back. I bought it because I have genetic scoliosis since I was a child, and it resulted in 5 curvatures (like a corkscrew). And after some people attempted to cut me off on an thickly iced off-ramp with their truck and slammed into my car, years of physical therapy later, I still get bad knots that last for weeks and months. This helped tremendously on my back, but I feel I need more heat for my neck. However, for what this did for my back it is my money’s worth! It took the knots out of my back. The worse knot hurt while the thing kneaded it out, and then suddenly, the knot and the pain vanished. It didn’t help my neck because the balls do not rotate close enough inward. I will try again today with a different position of the massager. It actually seemed to make my neck more sore. Also, I am not sure about the durability, because with a small amount of pressure, you can hear the motor start to strain after 10 minutes, and this was my first time using it straight out of the box. The balls were also positioned so that I couldn’t really get on the side of my sacrum joint at the tailbone. I might actually need to find a small device for my neck and tailbone. Update: giving it 5 stars. The noise isn’t any different than bigger things from PT office. This helped my neck when I focused on it for the whole 15 minutes, moving the thing around slightly. I absolutely love this neck massager. The kneading action works deep tissue knots above my shoulders and up my neck relieving tension. I can go from not being able to turn my head in one direction to being able to turn my head after fifteen minutes of use.

    • Mixed feelings... disappointed but there is potential

I have mixed feelings about this. I have muscle knots and there are very few things I like more than a deep penetrating tissue massage. I start each morning with a 30-minute meditation session involving a machine similar to this on my back. I do not claim to be an expert, but I do have experience with different companies. This has potential to be the best, the motor needs to be stronger and construction needs some work. It is one of the very few that provide a good neck massage. It firmly grabs my neck and works the muscles..mm feels so good. But it does not last, just as I start to relax and enjoy it the motor stops. The same thing can be said for the shoulder blades (those with these knots know where I am talking about) it provides that deep message that borders pleasurable pain. Again just as you really enjoying it the motor stops and you have to release all pressure. I have not had this one long and can already hear something rattling around inside. It is a good $20 machine that you know will last 1-2 months, then you will find yourself wishing they would upgrade the motor so that it could be dependable. ... show more

My shoulders get locked up often, and after trying many products over the years, this is the only thing I’ve found that can effectively loosen them up between massages. I rarely use the heat setting but the regular setting is great for working out knots and tight muscles in my neck and shoulders.

As a person with chronic pain, I’m a sucker for things that heat AND massage. I think this will work best as it’s intended, which is to be attached to a chair back. It was way too intense for me to lay on it but it otherwise has a nice massage pattern and heat element.

    • Easy to Use and Has a No Heat Setting
I tried this massager at my daughter’s place while vacationing there, and HAD to order one for myself immediately upon returning home! It feels wonderful! The pressure is perfect. Some other massagers I’ve tried have had very aggressive, painful pressure, but this is perfect. It’s a good, comfortable level, so that I can feel it and get the benefits from it, but not be wincing in pain from the pressure. I love that it heats up, also. OF IMPORTANT NOTE: Regarding reviews stating that the product gets too hot and burns, the directions state very clearly how to turn off the heat feature altogether if you don’t want it on. The massager doesn’t just turn on and do it’s own thing. You can control everything about it using the switch. Just read the instructions that come with it. I used my daughter’s every evening I was on vacation, and it enabled me to sleep well, with no back pain, and get up and go again the next day. We were excited to get this massager. Plugged it in and used it for maybe 5 minutes before going to sleep. We turned it off and went to sleep. In the middle of the night my husband heard two loud pops and smelled burning. The plug blew apart. The noise woke him and our dog up but I slept through it. I’m glad they heard it because they were able to get it unplugged before it started a fire in the night. Again I slept through the pops so very scary. ... show more
