I have like 10 sets of a much, much better version of this that I picked up from a local brick and mortar several years ago when I was organizing my basement to get things off the floor in case my sump pump died again. They work great and are solid, amazing things that cost the same that THESE cost. It was time to get three more sets, and I checked and the prices leaped up on those, so I thought I'd find something similar online for less. Well, these are similar, and they're less. They're a bit smaller but I knew that going into it. What I hadn't realized was just HOW cheap and flimsy these would be. I didn't need things to hold a ton of weight - these specifically are being used to hold about 400 or so Lego sets we have, with the rest staying on all the other shelving units downstairs. So with that use, these will work. Anything else, I likely would've returned two of the three sets I purchased unopened since they're just not worth the money... Assembly isn't that bad, just a pain getting the metal tabs in the slots sometimes - a slight bend usually resolves it. I'm not going tall on these, rather than four shelves high I'm building three sets that are double wide and only two shelves tall. With the cheap flimsy tin that the frames are made of, I wouldn't trust this four tall even with nothing heavier than Lego sets. So if you absolutely positively HAVE to have something, and you're not in a rush (took a while to ship) then these will work if you're dealing with light weight things to put on them. But if you want quality, something you know you can trust to hold something, I'd look elsewhere. ... show more

    • Little flimsy, but it works

I bought two units and I use them in an unconventional way. After putting them together in the horizontal position I zipped tied them together and put my big screen tv on it and use it as an entertainment center. For the other unit I put two twenty gallon tanks on it. It supports the weight, but I did have to cut some wood to evenly distribut the weight to the metal part of the shelves, because there is only one cross bar for support and I was worried it wouldn't hold the tanks. ... show more

Assembly was not hard. But I had to retrofit the support bars. It was not matching what the instructions indicated. Over all I was surprised at the sturdiness. It’s holding up to the home uses I need it for. I would recommend this if you are looking for extra storage shelving for your home.

They are not flimsy and are more than adequate for most home uses. They are not difficult to assemble and the instructions are reasonably good. I have three of these and will be ordering more. Overall, a good unit for the price. However, if you are not real adept with hand tools and assembly techniques, you are going to struggle putting this system together. I am an auto mechanic with 50+ years experience. Began the assembly and about 1/4 into it, had to disassemble and start again once I understood to process and technique. It took well over 1 1/2 hours to fully assemble and figure out shelf spacing. Once assembles, it is sturdy and fairly strong.
