  • it never ceases to amaze me what I can find on here
I bought two original at HomeDepot and decided to check Amazon and sure enough it was there, it never ceases to amaze me what I can find on here. Anyway, I obviously like this product because it hits all the points I wanted for my garage storage; it's durable metal frame, quality materials, deep 24 in shelves to hold plastic storage containers, so simple to put together out of the box you don't even need directions or even tools, solid shelf inserts to support most things and has that industrial look. You can configure how ever you want, I made one tall with the 5 shelves and to half ones (one a workbench and the other for my gardening supplies and planting table. I just need one more for another tall one which is only costing me 35.00 since I had prime rewards to use and no delivery charge either and their heavy. ... show more

  • Great shelves for the price
Thought I would write a review since I saw some negative comments … I am very impressed with this product especially for the price. A few notes: 1. Make sure you start with the larger hole opening on the metal brackets ABOVE the smaller opening/channel. That way when you are locking them in place you are putting pressure downward to lock them into the more narrow channel. Once you lock them in they won't move or disconnect. It gets easier as you go - getting the bottom portion put together is the worst part (I was doing it alone). 2. Make sure you have the 4 metal pieces (about 6 inches long) that connect the shelves in the middle. Mine were loose in the box so it would be easy to leave these in the box. 3. When installing start at the very bottom and put the wood shelves in as you work your way up - this gives it more stability as you go. Don't try to just do all the metal parts first and put the shelves in last. Put them in as you go. 4. Getting the metal pieces completely locked into place wasn't easy and I couldn't do it by hand. I used a block of wood and a hammer to gently tap the brackets down into the groove. Once I did this the frame was very sturdy. ... show more

  • No instructions
Fortunately I assembled one of these before and remembered some key points. I recommend looking at the parts and laying them out so you can get the proper piece when you need it. Also, it would help to have someone assist you even if they don't know anything about assembly. They can get a part while you're holding another one in place. Some of the assembly is common sense. You put the big hole over the round flange and then press downward to lock the angle iron support in place. I also recommend doing the lowest level first. Don't connect the lower uprights to the upper half until you complete at least one tier. You will give yourself more room to operate. Some of the connections require a tap with a light hammer but if you feel you're forcing it, you have to stop and see if the round button or flange is seated properly. I like the shelves but I have to say that they cut back on the strength and size of the materials versus about 6 or 7 years ago. It still holds the weight. One of the best features is the depth of these shelves for basement or garage storage. Much better than one foot deep. Even the stability seems better with that 2 foot depth. ... show more

  • Great addition to the garage
Had to hammer some bent corners out and one board had a little chip on the corner but nothing serious. Set up was kind of a pain for one person but do able... the whole thing feels very sketchy until you get it completely assembled but once it's together it feels strong! The boards do hold decent amount of weight but due to no center bars they will flex if too much weight is applied. Overall great for storing loose items without having to worry about them falling through grated shelves. ... show more

  • The shelves in the picture are not what you get.
BUYER BEWARE. I've ordered these shelves 3 times, for a total of 8 units. The first time I ordered, I received the shelves that are shown in the photos (two of them). They were/are excellent shelves, very sturdy, heavy duty, with a nice speckle powder coat finish. All of the shelves in my subsequent orders have been less sturdy, with a black satin finish. Worst of all, THEY DO NOT COME WITH THE COUPLERS for the vertical legs. I've worked around this by overlapping the vertical legs and bolting them together with short 1/2" bolts. On my second order, I tried to get them to send me the couplers but got the runaround. I took a chance on my third order, hoping that it was just a one-time mistake or a bad batch of shelves, but I got the same thing, still without the couplers. They'd be nice shelves, if they included everything advertised. But without the couplers, they cannot be assembled as directed without falling apart. I'd return this last order, but I need them for my business and would lose more money waiting for something else to ship, so I'll just bodge them together with bolts again I guess. Anyway, BUYER BEWARE. ... show more

  • Good Quality for the Money
Saw these same shelves at a home store for almost 1/3 more money. Strong and carry a good amount of weight. They actually are easy to assemble once you figure out the trick to attaching the uprights joining the bottom and top halves. Nice that there isn't a bag of a million nuts and bolts. Just line up the rivets in the slots and tap. But, when you are joining the top and bottom pieces what I found works is you tap the rivets joining the top and bottom uprights at the same time. If you tap the rivets into the bottom upright first the top wants to bounce loose or doesn't want to engage. The only issue I had was that 1 of the sets I bought was missing an upright. But I called the company located in Chicago directly and they sent me one by UPS pretty quick. So a little inconvenience but great service. I actually just got delivery of a 3rd set. ... show more

  • Great shelves, but I'll never buy from this manufacturer again.
I had bought six of these shelves for my shop last year. Really sturdy, well put together, no problems at all. I bought four more for my garage earlier this month, and none of them came with the hardware that I needed to attach the top and bottom together--O for 4. A call to the company to ask for the parts was never returned, and while I was able to jury-rig something together to make them work, I shouldn't have had to, and while they're really pretty damn good shelves for the money I will go out of my way never to buy from this brand again, because they really goofed. ... show more

  • Adequate but able to beef them up by changing shelves to plywood
I really needed shelving this size to store my sewing machines on. The shelves are tricky to put together. It took 2 people and was difficult to stabilize to get the 4 top upright supports to sit correctly on the bottom 4. They didn't want to sit on the bottom posts. It may have been operator error . . . who knows. I am an experienced DIYer and have many pieces of KD furniture under my belt. Never had this kind of trouble before when I put the last 6 sets of shelves together. They were from a big box store/different manufacturer. I took 1/2 star off for this difficulty. The other 1.5 stars were for the thickness and poor quality of the shelves. They will be replaced with 1/2 plywood after Christmas. Every time I barely touched the edge of the shelf against the metal frame while inserting them, lots of the particle board flaked off even tho I had painted the shelves 2 weeks before. Once I get the plywood shelves placed, I would give it a 4-star review. I can get 4 shelves out of a sheet of plywood so I'll use one of these shelves to beef up the top and protect my arms from the 4 posts which are slightly above the top shelf. That's needed so I don't slice my arm open on the sharp corners . . . AGAIN! I am planning to make a cover to hide front, sides and top. This will help keep the dust off my machines. As a matter of fact, I bought a painter's canvas from Amazon at the same time: 5 x 20 Quality Canvas 9 Oz. Drop Cloth Runner Sold by: Chicago Canvas & Supply. What's $20 compared to a 10K sewing/embroidery machine? Not to mention the other 5 machines that were not $1.98! ... show more
