  • Absolutely a great rod at a bargain price!
Size: 7-Feet/Light
Absolutely a great rod at a bargain price! A joy to use for my ultralight fishing. I was researching to buy an ultralight rod and from the advice of utuber i.fish, I purchased this rod in the 7 foot light action and couldn't be happier with my purchase. Great action and super easy to flick out 1/32 to 1/16 ounce jig heads with soft plastic bodies 50 to 60 ft. I've used this rod with several spinning reels trying 2 lb SOS mono, 4 lb fluorocarbon, and 6 lb braid with a 12' to 15' fluorocarbon leader. All are easy to cast, retrieve, and catch fish! A super value and though I have more than enough rods, I will likely purchase other versions of this great little rod! The only minor complaint I would have is the knurled plastic nut the secures the reel needs to be tightened periodically when fishing. There is no secondary locking nut, just the one plastic nut. The rod is so good in all other respects, I won't even reduce a star for this minor shortcoming of the rod. ... show more

  • As advertised
Size: 5.6-Feet/Light
Good one piece ultralight for crappie. Recieved two, but tip was broken off one rod, they could have just sent the good rod but they sent the damaged one also. Bought the 5'6 ultralight also, in product description on that one clearly states 1 piece, it is not. Dont like two piece rods unless they over 9 feet. Now have to find a ultralight one piece rod, but will probably just go to cabellas for that. ... show more

  • Pretty good light rod
Size: 7-Feet/Light
The rod is light and durable, I've taken it out a few times now and have been impressed with the overall feel. Came packaged well and safe.

  • I've started this 3 times......
Size: 7-Feet/Light
Got a chance to use this for shore fishing as I intended. I'm still up in the air about it. Here's the deal: I've got a couple other rods set up. I grab either one and make a cast, they act the same way. This rod, when I cast with the same timing, shoots the lure into the water maybe 5 yards in front of me at high velocity. It doesn't seem to flex, that is "load up" with a jig or jig and bobber. So, my heavier medium rods flex more than this light one. So, I tried again a day later, To get any distance with this rod, I need to release the line sooner and stop the rod more vertical. This is the first rod (of many) that behaves this way. Adding a split shot helps, but it seems to want more weight than the rated to get any spring. It is the longest rod I own, except for my fly rod, and that's probably part of it. It's very light and very stiff for it's weight. I haven't decided it's bad, just different. I'll have to work with it and see what happens. The ultra light might be more familiar, flexy, but where I fish for crappies, occasionally a northern pike decides crappie bait looks good, so I didn't want to go too light. It's built well, as I'd expect from Shakespeare. Maybe I'm just behind the times. but my recent ugly stick seems fine. I'm gonna try bigger jig heads and see what happens. ... show more

  • They both broke the same exact way
Size: 5-Feet/Ultra-Light

  • Small, lightweight, and handles well
Size: 5-Feet/Ultra-Light
First, the rod came very well protected (see photos). It also had heavier plastic sheathing on the cork parts of the handle. I kept that on the gripping area because it felt fine and I usually get fish slime on my hands and it keeps the handle pristine. I usually use a long rod for crappie fishing ~9', so I had to get used to casting lightweight jigs with it (Pro tip: let go of the line well before the point you want the lure to land). At any rate, paired with a small reel and light line (I used 2 lb test), it worked quite well. Under load, it flexes nicely. All in all, a nice little rod for smaller fish, tight places, or little hands (note to self: get one for granddaughter). ... show more

  • Great Bang For Buck
Size: 5.6-Feet/Light
If you want to be able to tell if that's a branch your lure just passed over or a big branch then you don't want this rod . It's sensitive but not ultra sensitive. Using braided line helps but there are others out there that are much more sensitive . I can tell the difference between a bite and a rock but I probably have missed many fish because I misread the feel . If you want to cast your 1/16oz lure 50 yards you don't want this rod . If 15 yards will do this is a real bargain and this thing is a real treat . I paired my 1st one with a Zoom by Piscifun in a 500 size and it's balanced nicely . Not quite as balanced as my 4'6" ultralight Uglystik G2 with Lews Laser Lite size 20 but not bad at all . I have 2 of these and both seem to be about the same in quality and both arrived safely . The one in the photo is paired with a different brand reel but looks and feels about the same in hand . I plan on using this combo along banks that are difficult to get a decent cast with my baitcasters due to brush and cover . I like this rod so much I ordered a 4-6 ultralight for when I go wading in Swift Creek and such . Edit I took the day to go fishing just to compare rods . Baitcaster vs spinner reels but all the spinner rods being Micro Series be it 5'6"light vs light baitcaster or 4'6" ultralight vs 6' ultralight baitcaster . All 3 of the Micro Series that I own held their own against their contenders . The lights worked apples to apples except in sensitivity where the others won by a huge margin . Distance , accuracy , flex were ties . With the ultralight contest the Micro came within a couple of yards in distance cast but giving up 18" I actually give that win to the Shakespeare . Accuracy and flex were close but the much shorter one was harder to get as accurate but I'm sure in a few more trips that'll be equal as well . I'll be honest out of the plethora of rod and reel combos I have my new favorite is the 4'6" ultralight Micro Series rod and the reel I put on it . That thing will work anywhere I decide to go fishing and will cast anything I normally use as I very rarely go above 3/16 oz on my lures. ... show more

  • Terrible packaging, Great Fishing rod
Size: 4.6-Feet/Ultra-Light
Rod was shipped in an 8'x10"x10" box loose. Delivered with the box bent and half the rod sticking out through a hole in the end. The rod tip and two guides damaged plus a lot of damaged epoxy along the rod guides.
