Picked up this H!Fiber 0.5M SFP+ DAC cable to handle the link between my router and switch in the home lab rack. Short DAC cables are the right tool for the job when two pieces of equipment are sitting right next to each other. Cheaper than fiber with transceivers, no power draw to worry about, and one less thing that can go wrong. Link came up cleanly on both ends and has been rock solid since I plugged it in. No negotiation issues, no flapping, just a steady 10G connection doing what it should. Both ends seated firmly with the satisfying click you want to hear from quality SFP+ connectors. The 0.5M length is just right for connecting two devices in the same rack space. Long enough to route cleanly without putting stress on the ports, short enough to avoid leaving a pile of excess cable behind the rack. For longer runs you would want to step up to a 1M or 2M version, but for adjacent equipment this length is the sweet spot. Build quality feels appropriate for the price point. The cable has a reasonable amount of flex without being floppy, the connectors feel solid, and the overall construction looks clean. Nothing fancy, but DAC cables do not need to be fancy. They just need to work, and this one does. For anyone needing a short 10G link between equipment in the same rack, this is a sensible pick that does not break the bank. I wanted to connect a 2.5gb/s switch into my gb switch and needed an SFP solution to provide the best throughput possible. This DAC (direct attach copper) solution provided exactly what I needed at an incredibly reasonable price. Now I have a 10gb/s connection between my switches for less than $10! That is less than the price of most SFP's! What a great value for the money. I am very happy with my purchase. I purchased this to use with an Intel X710-DA2 (Dell G54KD, dated 05/2021) in a Debian 13 test system before deploying to Proxmox/pfSense. Setup: • Intel X710-DA2 (i40e driver, firmware 8.40) • Ubiquiti Flex 2.5G PoE switch with 10G SFP+ uplink • 0.5m passive DAC Results: The cable was accepted immediately by the X710 with no firmware flashing or modification required. Both ports negotiated cleanly at 10G full duplex. ethtool reports 10000Mb/s and link stability has been solid. I also tested a loopback between both ports on the X710 using this DAC and both sides linked at 10G instantly. No compatibility warnings, no unsupported module messages, no negotiation issues. If you’re running an Intel X710 and worried about vendor coding drama, this DAC worked perfectly in my case without touching firmware.
