My Serwall Folding Adirondack Chair arrived a day earlier than planned; the packaging was intact. There was no external damage to the packaging, and it did not appear to have been previously opened and resealed. At the outset I will admit that based on some of the reviews and the experiences reported, I was somewhat leary of the assembly process. I believe I have good mechanical aptitude and proficiency. I chose to assemble the folding chair outside on our picnic table. I thought it would be easier to work at waist level, than to keep bending down and getting back up. I placed a cover on the table in case a part would drop, it would be easier to find. The assembly was straight forward. First read the instructions. Check and double check that you have ALL of the parts. Unwrap the components, check for any damage. All of the components in my kit were clearly labeled with name, an alphabet letter, and either right or left. Other than item K the brace, only one was labeled, but they are identical so it doesn't matter. Lay the parts out right on one side and left on the other. I kept the hardware in the plastic bag after counting, to keep it all in one place. Before actually assembling the chair I found it helpful to put the components together by hand to see how they went together. Paying close attention to where the holes were, and how they aligned with other components. All of my parts had all of the holes drilled where they were supposed to be. I think that if there doesn't seem to be a hole where you think there should be one, re-check the part, it might be misplaced or mis-aglined. I did not use the tools included in the kit. I used a 10MM wrench and 6MM hex key. If you choose to use a driver drill screwdriver, turn the torque all the way to its lowest setting. If the screws are over tightened you might strip the plastic components. I recommend assembling to just hand tight, until fully assembled, then going back and tightening nuts, bolts, and screws snug. If you are going to assemble more than two kits, I think it would be helpful to have two ratchet wrenches, one for the 10mm nuts and one fitted with a 6mm hex. I did not time my assembly, but it didn't seem to take very long. The Serwall Folding Adirondack Chair is very comfortable, I highly recommend it. ... show more

    • Okay, but some issues

On the good side, these chairs (we bought two) are quite comfortable and sturdy. If not for a few issues, I would give them 5 stars. On the down side.... First, they advertise "80% assembled, 6 parts, 5 steps, 15 minutes to assemble." Wrong. While the back and seat are (mostly) assembled, there are at least 10 other parts that have to be added. Everything is well labeled and the instructions are quite clear. However, the first chair took the better part of two hours. I guess I learned something the first time because the second chair only took about 45 minutes. Maybe not a huge deal, but it is certainly not 15 minutes. Then, the color. Burgundy. From the color samples (and having enjoyed a number of glasses of wine), I expected the color to be, well, burgundy. The chairs turned out to be much more pinkish-red than I expected. Not a deal-stopper and not enough to go through the hassle of returning them, but I was disappointed. So, some pros and cons. They are comfortable, though! ... show more

I typically believe that you pay more for good quality and craftsmanship. I decided to go with these chairs because they were a bit more expensive then others and the photos looked to be great quality. Well….photos are deceiving. We purchased 2 chairs and both had issues with the pre-built parts. The one I put together had cracks in the wood from the manufacturer over tightening the slats. With time no doubt this will break completely and make the chair more susceptible to moisture and weather damage. The one my husband put together the arms fell of as soon at it was assembled. The screws used for these can’t hold any weight what so ever so when he went to fold it the arm came off from just the the bit of weight placed on it to get it slightly off the ground so it wouldn’t scratch on the gravel. The attention to detail and the willingness to box up and sell a product that’s been damage during manufacturing don’t add up to the price tag. Your better off buying the cheaper ones. For the price of 2 here I could have gotten 4-5 on Amazon and kept a couple in the shed for backup. ... show more

I purchased two of these chairs and found them relatively easy to put together. They look great and are very comfortable. I did end up with one issue after over a year with one of the chairs. I had a defect which caused an issue. When I contacted Serwall they were very responsive. They requested a photo of the issue and within 48 hours of my first email to them they had already shipped me a replacement chair. I truly appreciate a company which stands behind their products and is responsive in the event that something goes wrong. I will definitely purchase additional products from them in the future. ... show more

Ok, you’re going to see lots of reviews that there is a missing pre drilled hole or that the instructions are difficult to follow, etc. I’m going to say this: if you are of average intelligence with an average mechanical ability and an average knowledge of common hand and power tools, you’ll have this thing put together within an hour. Pay attention to where the holes and the spacing of the holes in the instruction illustrations are located. If you think you need to drill holes, you put something together incorrectly, just go back and find out where you went wrong. Don’t listen to the reviews that say this is difficult to assemble. Theoretically it’s possible to assemble the chair using the tools included, but I’d be willing to bet a lot of people saying this chair was difficult to install used only the included tools instead of throwing them in the recycling bin and using a 10mm wrench, 4mm hex key (Allen wrench) and a #2 Phillips bit in a impact driver. Using those three tools made assembly easy. I, personally, was letting the impact break click twice when the hardware was snugged in and that seemed about right without it being over tight. ... show more
