Why did you pick this product vs others?: the reviews that I read all said it was the best in my price range for home security Security: I like that the key overrides the combination. I had read that there are ways to defeat the combinationlock with a magnet but if that is true, the key will prevent that. After my home was broken into I found out how easy it was to use a crowbar ( which the thieves found in my garage) and pry the side with the bolts out and the door [popped open. Thickness: As I said, this thing is heavy and if you hit it on the side, it sounds solid. I don't usually write reviews but in this case I wanted others to know what a great product this is. Perfect size for me as I mostly store papers, lighted inside, manufacture's initial entry code last forever while 2 other codes can be personalized and any of the three can be used; note that using the floor screws invalidates the waterproof warranty. Early review (Day 2): Arrived quickly and without any damage. Was alarmed at first when I entered the factory code and nothing happened. Maybe I missed that the batteries were not installed (or supplied), but I quickly figured it out. Once I did that, it worked *almost* perfectly. * I hate beeps, so my first modification attempt was to mute the speaker. It didn't work. Turns out the manual is wrong: to mute the beeps, Press 0,P,1; to opt for persistent intrusions into your quiet Zen, no worries - that is the default, unfortunately. But if you really want them, press 0,P,2. Back to the review. Great safe. The lockable internal box is next to useless, but the LED illumination is great. The weight of the safe is reassuring, though if you really want to prevent thieves from carting your safe off to their criminal den, you have to screw it down to the floor, which unfortunately voids the water intrusion warranty. No big deal for me, as I bought this safe to ensure that our valuables are protected when our apartment is shown to strangers. Anyone viewing the property will be with a realtor, and it isn't possible to stow this safe in your pocket without the realtor seeing it, unlike jewelry, cash, and memory cards. nice sturdy safe. nice size The key lock is not separate; it is added security. You still need the keypad to open. The batteries for the keypad are in a battery slot outside, easy to access and change batteries; this is great. it says you can bolt down the safe. This is really malarkey. There are some lag bolt screws included, but no preset place to drill; you drill blindly through safewalls, and it disables any waterproofing of the safe. This is terrible and will most likely not be implemented by anyone. It is a marketing gimmick only to say you can bolt down the safe. ... show more

I bought this safe with the primary objective of protecting my SSDs, which contain sensitive data, from fire damage.     • Terrible support from Sentry

After reading good reviews and feeling that Sentry was a solid name in this space, I purchased one. When it arrived the door wouldn't open. There is a master code for the keypad and although you could hear the motor doing something, it wouldn't open. The keys that are the second option, arrived locked inside the safe that wouldn't open! After serveral attempts and playing with the position of the handle, I was finally able to get it open. Once I did I retrieved the keys, locked the door and tried opening it with the keys, but they didn't work either. Several more failed attempts with both the key and the code until finallay the code worked again. Everytime I locked the safe the keys would NOT work to open it and the code would take 5-10 tries to work. Things happen, ok I am not that upset but I call Sentry for help as the manual, and sticker on the front of the safe, instruct you to. I tried 3 times that night and the phone would disconnect seconds after connecting. I figured they were having a bad night so I tried again the next afternoon where I was greated 3 different tries with a "software error" message that then hung up on me. So good luck getting any support from them if you need it. I am returning this safe! ... show more
