  • A ton of amazing functionality in a small package
Color: White Size: One Size
Ok, $200USD (at time of this review) for a pair of earbuds. That's a lot of money when there are tons of other options on the market for significantly less. So, are these Sennheiser earbuds worth it? Let me lay out my experience so you can decide that for yourself. First, there is a companion app available for these earbuds. In this app you can build user profiles, sound profiles (equalizer profiles), change how much or how little active noise filtering you want, create sound zones, customize the touch controls, and even auto-build sound profiles based on what you're listening to. These earbuds work perfectly fine without the app, but operate pretty much like any other earbud. At the time of this review, the app does not require you to create a Sennheiser account to access most of the advertised functionality. Currently, the only function locked behind an account is the auto-sound profile function. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate that the earbuds work perfectly fine without the app. I greatly appreciate that 90% of the functionality doesn't require an account to use, nothing drives me more crazy than requiring an account and logging in just to change the RGB or access basic functionality. While this is highly subject to change, I hope that it remains this way. In favor of the app, one thing I realized almost immediately was that I could customize the equalizer to my preferences, and have it apply equally across all my apps. Switching between YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and other apps all sound the same because of this app. Before, my MP3 music player app was the only app that had a customizable equalizer, so switching to YouTube to listen to other music was jarring. How is the sound? Amazing! Doing a side by side comparison between these earbuds and another set I recently purchased (that set retails for about $60USD at time of this review) I could notice a difference in sound quality between the pair. However, the difference between the two wasn't so great that I'd favor the Senheisser. One major factor that gave the Senheisser the edge in sound quality is the active noise cancelling function. It's so effective that I couldn't hear my wife open our sliding glass door that was right behind me - multiple times. I tried walking with the noise cancelling active and it was so effective it affected my sense of balance (not to the point of being dangerous, but enough to notice). With the active noise cancelling, white noise in music is additionally filtered out (at least that's what it felt like), allowing more audio space for the music to occupy. A neat feature that I realized during use is the light sensor built into the earbuds themselves. When you remove an earbud, whatever is playing is automatically paused. When you re-insert the earbud(s), the media auto-resumes. It's a neat function when someone interrupts you, you don't have to scramble to pause your media lest you miss something. My one nitpick is the case. it only has a colored LED to indicate functionality, battery level or other information. The previously mentioned alternate earbuds has a digital readout that clearly displays the battery level. While I can get battery information from the app, that's extra steps when I'd rather have that info at a glance. So, for $200USD are these earbuds worth it? There is a lot of functionality that comes from the companion app that really elevates these earbuds above many others. Add in impressive noise cancelling capability and the value proposition rapidly approaches positivity. I'm actually surprised with how much Sennheisser packed into these earbuds, to the point that I would actually pay out of pocket for these. ... show more

  • These were a surprise WIN! AMAZING earbuds.
Color: White Size: One Size
I have a penance for buying toys but not much beats a great pair of headphones or earbuds - especially earbuds you might be wearing for hours at a time. I own or have owned Apple AirPods Pro, Bose QC Comfort and Bose Sport for in ear wireless buds. They all work great but over time the AirPods will slip out especially when I'm sweating (gym) so I dont use them in the gym anymore. The Bose QC are great for conference and other calls but are too big for the gym and frankly just too big. GREAT tech but too large. The Bose sport are fantastic for the gym (my go-to) but I cant use them for calls. That leaves me with three sets of spot use earbuds. Love them but hate having to have so many. Also...I use a bone conducting headset for work because they have a nice light touch and a boom mic...but no earbuds so I can hear the world around me. I had been using higher quality foam earbuds but I now have a better option. These are AMAZING. They are compact and fit in ear but they are by far the best fitting and least intrusive I own...also cause the least pain over time. I tried them at the gym and they work WELL but when I sweat a lot and then lie down on a bench, they did slide a tad - not out - just a little. It fell into the 'non event' category but it's worth mentioning. The noise cancellation is fantastic as I cant hear a thing when they're in (because I dont want to - thats adjustable). They were good for my workout and unlike the Bose sport I was able to take a call. I dont WANT to take a call at the gym...thats a no bother zone but it was unexpected and important. Warned me I had an incoming call, muted the music and I switched over easily. That was nice. I have used them at my desk for focusing. Set music and just go. Quick tap to mute, or change the transparency, etc. The tap codes are going to take some getting used to but they're not hard. I also replaced the foam plugs in my ears with these so when I was switching from focus time to conference calls I could listen to music, then pause the songs, take the call and use them like earplugs, then when the call was over pull the bone conducting set and go back to focusing. It was nice not to have to dig the earplugs out. They're good but a pain. These were nice. The sound is better than the Bose QC's (which is the hands down best I had before for music buds) and the voices are clearer than the AirPods - plus people have noticed how much clearer my calls sound which is nice. They charge fast and they last forever. I worked out for an hour with mine (cranked up) and used only 10% of the battery. Right back into the case. Let me tell you the case seems like no big deal but the Bose cases are notorious for not taking the rolling nature of sitting in a bag or in my case my car door pocket well. The earbuds will disconnect and stop charging - SURPRISE!. I have found I have to be very careful with them. These mag locked in as well as the AirPods but are closer to the shape of the Bose. Win win. I highly recommend the app. It has features like the ability to update the firmware, change the equalizer, change the tap codes, check battery for the buds and case, etc. Overall if I had to give up any of the earbuds it would not be these. If I could only afford one, it would be these. Hands down these are my new favorite and I have hours of use on them already. These are a win all around. ... show more
