Literally like new, missing the lightning cable but not a big deal. Price was right and the quality exceeded expectations. Saved a great deal of money and these perform as some of the best bluetooth headphones I've ever used. These make the AirPod Pro earbuds seem like a cheap novelty. I love the replaceable ear cups and the well designed hinges. No creaky cheap plastics like Sony headsets and better noise cancelling than Bose. 10/10 would purchase again, a lot of people are weary of refurb or open box but honestly Apple is the easiest to inspect and returns are easy if there is an issue or the item doesn't meet expectation. They get a little warm sometimes but no different than any other over-the-ear style. Mid range is a little weak at default settings. There are ways to customize the sound in the "Headphone Accommodations" settings, I disabled Spatial Audio and tuned audio for "Vocal Range" and left the boost settings to "Slight" these settings make these clear with a clean and brightish sound stage, perfect for anything from classical to deep house. I found Spatial Audio with the APMs to be too distracting, the speakers on these are good enough that you don't need that software feature enabled. Battery is great, easy to use and they fit incredibly well.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Price. Refurbished Amazon product. Was a bit worried about it at first but product looks like it’s brand new! Sound quality: Fantastic. Especially when used with Apple Music. The sounds and quality you hear using these headphones from the same music you have heard numerous times is amazing! Fit: Fantastic. A hit heavy but very comfortable Clarity: Amazing! Brings new life to music you have heard before numerous times. I originally got them in Space grey. They came in on time, came with its case for the headphones. Headphones came unscratched, no smell to them, charged, and looked brand new. They’re adjustable to ur liking. The knob for the volume works great, same thing with the button for the Spatial Audio works great! When I connected them to my phone the first time, they were labeled as Apple AirPod Max #2. They charged just fine!! So far had them for almost a month and no issues. I added a black sweatproof case on them, because I don’t want them to get scratched. They automatically connect just fine with my iPad and my MacBook! Worth the money! I was very happy with my purchase. :)

Mine came completely mint, no sign of any previous use whatsoever cosmetically and functionally. I’m a professional mix engineer/system designer and I have to say, they’re solid headphones overall. They’re built like a tank, the low end is punchy, and the noise cancellation is exceptional. I also love how they seamlessly integrate with my other Apple products and has Find My functionality. My only complaints are they’re a tad bright for my taste (though you may like that), “Spatial Audio” is just a gimmick, if you really get them moving there is a bit of distortion, and to a trained ear you can definitely hear compression artifacts as they do not support lossless codecs. All that may sound harsh but those are trivial nitpicks when looking at the product as a whole. I would definitely recommend these to anyone willing to fork out the money for them.

For the actual product I would give 5 stars. If you have the money it is a fantastic pair of headphones, the noise cancellation is life changing, but I find that most people probably won't use it very much. It was very useful when I was in New York and riding the subways and also working in coffee shops, but for my day to day where I work remotely and commute anywhere via car, I find it pretty rare that I really needed it, but maybe it will make me want to start going to coffee shops to work out of more often! For the renewed product, I ran into some issues getting it onto Find My so that I could know where its location is, and for me that is a dealbreaker. I was not able to get it added because it was still on someone else's account, and even worse was that there seemed to be an issue with my specific unit where if it died and you were charging it, it would unpair from your phone and the only way to get it into the pairing mode was to plug in a lightning cable to start charging it, wait for the green LED to come on, and only then could it be put into pairing mode. If you disconnected it from the lightning power, none of the buttons would do anything, which meant that unless I had a charger handy, sometimes I was just stuck not being able to use it until I found a charger, which is another huge dealbreaker for me.
